I fail to see whats sad about that?

Any member of this forum has the right to thier opinion, including you!
that dosn't make your statement correct tho does it?

In 10 years LFS will be older more mature and some of you kids will have grown up a bit, well heres hoping!

Besides, I've been around since S1 days. What will it do to the LFS community if everyone that has supported and experienced LFS for several years just buggers off until something significant happens? Truth be told, I think the extent to which that has already happened has damaged public pick-up racing a fair bit in LFS.

Adding some old blokes moaning...
I've been here since S1 times too. Frankly I didnt make many comparisons but I wouldnt pay monthly fee to iRacing, I found netKar interesting but no so much to buy a license, and having few laps on the Race just to know tracks by heart when watching WTCC (SimBin phisics just turns me down).

I, experienced LFSer, would blame rank systems for damaging public pick-up racing. They become very popular and occupied resulting others plain empty, but for me it is quite not appealing to spend days to get points for something else than xfg Or racing regularly in leagues. I dont mind 105% of the best laptime - mostly I would cope and it's obvious that more than 2-3s a lap just doesnt make a race. I rather, during the years, see lack of pick-up servers with laptime range - that is something what people enjoy in club racing: no matter you fight for 1st or 20th place - it is just as much awesome for the competitors.
Quote :The other big downer was that I'd lost my collection of setups since 2008, and one thing it taught me is that you can drive on the absolute tyre-cooking limit, but someone with a locked diff will cruise right past you.

You can always find good base for your setup at Inferno (I welcomed GenerAl from dSRC there as his setups were very good for my style)
We've had new t-shirts.
I've been with lfs from the beginning till now, guess that makes me an oldtimer.

I always loved to play lfs, even now when free-play time is very limited due to life changes. Thats why i dont want to come over here and moan why this, why that.

Only remark i wanted to give is a bit business related :
The VWS is released in 2008.

LFS got the rights to use the car in the game. They annouced its future in-game presence pretty fast (great !).
If i was CEO of VW i would like to get my new car in commercials, flyers, ... everywhere, asap. Including LFS.

Seeing it in a game 1 year, maybe 2 year laters after release, would not get me too excited to be honest and make me doubt my decision.

If i would develop the game, I wouldnt focus on bringing the VWS out, but more on new tracks, more cars/class, ... Off course i know there will be business deals that require a realistic VWS release someday.

I personally am not waiting for a new FWD car. I seem to be stuck in the TBO class that for me still is max-lfs-fun. XRT still is my fav. car.
Its an important thing. You can cool down playing LFS nowadays that it is so boring.

If you want a good patch , buy it.
Guess I'm an oldtimer as well...

I like this thread because it's about people telling what they feel about how things are with LFS atm. I like a lot of the posts above because they represent sort of a valve to let out peoples feelings and thoughts about how they see LFS's development and stuff.

A miracle that this thread hasn't been closed to be honest! THe other thread that got closed without a note (the smell thread) had really good points in it that I agreed with widely...

Please let people say what they think! And a little sarcasm like in my sig doesn't kill anyone!

So I'll keep waiting for those great releases which are still to come this year...

cheers,

AR

Except it's not a valve. It a spinning, churning generator or whine and rage.

All these threads do is provide a place where whiners of all persuasions can get together and have a big 'ol groupwank. They piss each other off by using tested and true flamebait and then use the reaction they get to justify their own, equally misplaced, rage. It's the only thing the interwebs are used for these days. Flamewars. Well, flamewars and porn.

Either way, nothing but wankery can come of it...

Well at least all the "whining" is centralized in one thread, so that's a good thing at least.

I don't think all posts in this thread are whining, by the way. Some people bring up very good points; I actually enjoy reading a lot of them.

I find your post hypocritical. You talk about whine and rage when your post is probably the most poisonous and attacking in this thread.
Quote from hda :demo racers haven't got the right to complain

im not complaining. i seldom play this game any more. Back when i saw this game in 2005 i always thought it was a game with so much potential.

devs in the past 5 years have not being able to really tap into the potential i saw.

it almost looks like the limits of a three man team has been reached.
I wonder if anybody here defending the developmet speed realizes that 90% of Korean based MMORPGs or free2play MMORPGs in general are literally dead Because of very slow development speeds.

But then again most of you here probably don't even realize that poor development speeds have been the cause of death for so many MMORPGs or heck even standard (non-MMO) online based games throughout the entire online based game market...

Rakion, Gunbound, regnum online, shattered galaxy, beyond earth, infinity online, ferentus online, corum online, Saga Online, Face of mankind, AirRivals, starsiege:2845, the list is infinite to those who are aware of the online gaming market. I will mourn the day LFS is among those great or potentially great games.

1 year isn't bad. Heck I waited 2 years for lazy nexon to add A SINGLE new unit to shattered galaxy with no other new update (those of you who know what i'm talking about...yes I'm talking about those stupid lith-ubiks which turned out to be one of the worst units in the game and prompted me to quit)

LFS devs would be wise to learn from previous has-been online games and MMOs
Quote from lizardfolk :LFS devs would be wise to learn from previous has-been online games and MMOs

What should they "learn"?

I'm pretty sure the devs aren't delaying things intentionally and want to get the new stuff out ASAP as long as it works and is up to the standards of the devs. Unfortunately, this seems to take longer and longer.
I think a car and a track, which they had help with can't take 1 year long....
Quote from Kristi :I think a car and a track, which they had help with can't take 1 year long....

Well, the new car introduced limitations of setups, which wasn't working well with the current game.
The new track introduced much greater detail and realism (since it is a real track being implemented).

I think implementing it in a proper way can take more than a year. Especially if you (the devs) decide to completley refurnish the phyisics engine to do so..
Quote from Kristi :I think a car and a track, which they had help with can't take 1 year long....

Torben already answered it but maybe you should try reading Scawen's posts first instead of blindly moaning.
There is/was a project called SkyOS. It was developed by a very small group of people. It had awesome potential. To use it, you had to pay for a license. It was a small amount of money compared to the other operating systems' prices. Everything I said by now is stunningly simular to LFS!
One day, progress just stalled. A few years after this, the project is officially frozen. The only way out is to make it open-source, and it is considered by the developers.

Personally, I think that if the LFS developers can't develop the game at normal pace, they should make it open-source and drop the license system, or require a license only to play online (to use a server).
Quote from zeugnimod :What should they "learn"?

That this is how games die...it's a common death for millions of online based games before and it will be the #1 cause of death for the majority of online based games in the future and LFS is not immune to this.

Quote from zeugnimod :I'm pretty sure the devs aren't delaying things intentionally and want to get the new stuff out ASAP as long as it works and is up to the standards of the devs. Unfortunately, this seems to take longer and longer.

I'm sure Nexon didn't intend to release Shattered Galaxy without any major updates for over 3 years. I'm sure Webzen didn't intent to keep Soul of the Ultimate nation in beta for over 1 year. I'm sure Blizzard intended to release Starcraft: Ghost. I'm sure 3D Realms intended to release Duke Nukem Forever someday.

Fact is, most of these cases as well as millions of others are cases where the developers have decided that they "did enough" or did not need to do more and the game died as a result. (shall I quote more? Space Cowboy Online (AirRivals), Rakion, Scion of Fate.) The devs HAVE to realize that the sim community is not necessarily that different from the MMO or the rest of the online gaming community.

Yes, the sim community will value quality engine and gameplay more than graphics compared to the average online gamer. But fact is, stagnant updating (if unbroken) will be the death of LFS just like all those other games.

Yes, I realize that it's only 3 people. Yes, I realize that they are recreating the physics engine for the Scirocco. But if this is delayed for any longer than half to 2 years. LFS will loose it's glory and the community will move on eventually. Maybe a few hardcore veterans will wait forever...but that will signify a game's death when there's no other group of players in LFS.

Of course this may not be anybodies' fault. The devs aren't a part of a mass company and they may have gained lives over the course of LFS. if that's the case, then LFS development will be excruciatingly slow...the same thing happens when a company adopts more than 1 MMORPG to develop. The result will usually be the death for the game but you cant really blame the LFS devs. It's just a fact of gaming really. Games come and go, rarely games last more than 5 years let alone 10. if it does, just enjoy it while it last.

I dont see myself as a nomad gamer. But the current state of online pc gaming has forced me to put things into perspective. When the time comes, I will move on and so will the rest of the non-hardcore LFS community (if that hasnt happened already). The devs better realize that the reason is the stagnant update and they can do something about it if they really cared about fixing this problem.

Oh...and just an FYI, Huxley (another Webzen game SURPRISE!) was due out in 2006 summer...I'm still currently waiting for it to get out of open beta Seriously research that game, all the info, shots and video will be from 2006 and it still isn't released yet LOL. Is it a surprise that no one cares about that game anymore? (yet i'm still waiting for it)
Yes it will die, like the Sims, Counter Strike and the Microsoft Flightsimulator. And Bill Gates really should make Windows open-source because they are not able to fix my Tv-card problem in Vista.
As long as the devs keep working, then there will be people interested in the progress of LFS. It's not unusual these days for games to take the greater part of a decade to develop (think STALKER) - the 'problem' with LFS is that the community has been getting a behind the scenes look at LFS as it's moved very slowly and gradually from S1/S2/alpha/beta stages, with glimpses of S3 on the horizen now... it's pretty much the software equivalent of watching a pot boil.

People still had faith in Stalker, even though they weren't able to get their hands on playable code right up until release. With LFS, we demand tangible progress every six months or so, and when that fails we regard things with great suspicion and the forum goes back to speculating on the downfall of the sim, which never really happens.

It's probable that we'll never go back to the frequent updates that we've mostly enjoyed up until now. Scawen himself seems to be underestimating the time it takes to do things these days, and he has the best clue out of everybody. But if LFS survives the next ten years then I think 'what it will be like' will be different to what we expect of it now. Perhaps bigger updates, but more spread out- say every two years or so, for starters. By then I would also hope that modding would be supported, which would change the game completely in terms of how the problem of content generation is handled. There are lots of possibilities.
Its intresting reading about all those games, the only thing I dissagree with is the whole "speed up development or people will move on" thing.
The problem with that is there is no other game like LFS, there are thousands of MMO games, but not so many driving games that have a sim feel as good as LFS does, many who play LFS refuse to pay monthly for something like Iracing, and dont have the patence to mess around with all the mods like Rfactor, what else is there for them to move onto?

They (the Devs) develop LFS to their own timescale, it has always been like that, with people finding LFS everyday the userbase has grown huge, maybe thats why demands for them to hurry have increased.

I believe many infrequent or non forum posters, are happy to just be patient and wait, maybe as many as come here and post how LFS will die if they don't get x amount of new content.
