Extremely Long GP
This is my first post on the LFSforum. I love the game, bought S2 after the demo got me hooked, purchased a NIB Momo (red) and loving it!

I just finished watching "Top Gear" on Speedvision and they had a segment on the Nuremburgring. They mentioned the fact that the track is over 13 miles in length and has over 140 turns. I know the nature of LFS doesn't allow the purchase of rights to use the ring track configuration, but I thought a really long complicated track could add an interesting venue to S2. The statement that really got me to thinking was when they mentioned people that had raced the track for 5, 10, etc. years kept coming back because of it's unique challenge with hidden corners, very neutral non-descript marking in the various segments.

Don't be too hard on me.

I'd like a long, challenging track as well. With huge elevations, off camber corners etc.

That's why I'd like to have a track editor for LFS.
Nice idea. Would certainly make hotlapping interesting

Fern Bay Black, Aston Historic/GP and Kyoto GP are long. Not 13 miles long, but still, they take time to master. especially with every car

But yes, I'd like to see a very long track too on lfs )
I like that idea, but it's probably a lot of work, and I guess Eric is on his holidays too now
it's still called "nürburgring"

maybe you should say "nordschleife", might be easier to type for you

We could have a track that's about 13 km long in KyotoRing. Just combine the GP-course and the infield section. There would be only one corner that needs a bit editing.

(hint for Eric )

FE Black is definately the hardest track of those to master, lots of very hard and tricky turns. Not that the KY track or the Aston track is easy, but the Black version of FE is just in a league of its own imo.

But I would really like a long track as well, I'm happy with the Aston GP, but I would love a track which is much longer, and have more overtaking turns.
:S wow! im not alone! someone else stayed up late to watch that

... gonna suck when i get to schoool i'll fall asleep lol

i love top gear, what a great show
anyways.. yes, some huge track that takes over 5 minutes to do.. im in!
nürburgring is the most kick ass track in the world, i would LOVE to take a car around that place, If it was in LFS my head would explode, (if not from that, from the 30min laps in the uf1)

btw, top gear is awsome
Quote from reidry :they had a segment on the Nuremburgring.

(sadly) its the nuerburgring and not the nuremburgring

it certainly is a nicce track ... but since the slightest mistake will get you a few feet below ground level im not sure if its a good idea to include that sort of track in a online sim ... imagine having to pootle some 20 km to get back to the pits after the usual t1 wrecking havoc ...

Really? Sweet.

Edit:
Just looked at South City and there's still another combo we could have.
Classic
Sprint 1
Spring 2
Classic + Sprint 1 + Sprint 2 = Long
Classic + Sprint 2 = Town Course (or Long - Sprint 1)
Classic + Sprint 1 = ???? (or Long - Sprint 2) ... would be a very fast config

Fern Bay also has the possibility of two more combos:
Black - Club
Gold - Club

Probably get another one out of Aston somehow too, hard to see without the nice track maps on the LFS website.
I apologize for my spelling. Good to see I'm not off base on the basic idea though.

Would be awesome if we had a track like the Nordschleife

Anyway for those who haven't seen JC @ Nordschleife with the Jaguar, I'm currently uploading it, good quality,70Mb.

Done : www.jpc-board.nl/Movies/TGRing.wmv
maybe a second configuration of westhill would make it
maybe with some obstacles in the "!nfield" or an 8-crossing with a bridge
Quote from Shotglass :(sadly) its the nuerburgring and not the nuremburgring

Even more sadly, it's called the Nürburgring
Quote from tristancliffe :Even more sadly, it's called the Nürburgring

Yupp, you're right. BUT it is also correct to write it like Nuerburgring, as "umlauts" are not used in every language using the latin letters. So, "ä" can be written as "ae", "ö" as "oe" and "ü" as "ue" :P

I beat Tristan! YAY!

EDIT: But to contribute to the topic: I too think that a long track would be nice. Would be quite interesting for pit strategies too, I think, as you are not that flexible as on shorter curcuits.

and "ß" can be written as "ss" Harr, I beat Coleus which means a also beat Tristan

but back to topic: Yes, I want the Nürburgring in LFS too
Quote from Bob Smith :Fern Bay also has the possibility of two more combos:

there are a few others i could think of ...
how about rallycross + the rxgreen start/finish line straight
or black and green with the "mini oval" included
or maybe club with a longer s/f straight (theres a patch of asphalt at fe that links the club s/f straight to the gold underpass)
and i guess you could easily come up with more combinations

Quote :Probably get another one out of Aston somehow too, hard to see without the nice track maps on the LFS website.

loads actually ...
2 versions of club + national
cadet + the historic loop
only the historic loop
hist + parts of nat an club
etc

as discussed in another tthread ... i want the ability to roam the environments freely and creat track with the au editor

Quote from tristancliffe :Even more sadly, it's called the Nürburgring

yeah but the umlaute are like way over there to the right of my keyboard ... totally out of reach

Quote from tpa :and "ß" can be written as "ss" Harr, I beat Coleus which means a also beat Tristan

and ever since the rechtschreibreform we can write any german word in any way that remotely resembles the word
Quote from tpa :and "ß" can be written as "ss" Harr, I beat Coleus which means a also beat Tristan

but back to topic: Yes, I want the Nürburgring in LFS too

Well, first of all, I never said that you couldn't use "ss" for a "ß". Secondly, the "ss" is not the right substitute. It just was used that much that people said it was right too. But in the Austrian burocracy for example, if you are not able to type "ß", you have to use "sz", which would be the ture substitute.
This is because words with "ss" and "ß" are differently pronounced. The former with a short vowel, the latter with a long vowel.

And I successfully defended my title as Defeater of Tristan.

But I will not answer to any other challanges, as I do not want his Topic to go OT completely, because I really like the idea of having very long tracks... allthough I havent seen the ones in game already

EDIT: And I would prefer to be abrreviated as "Rattus", as "Coleus" could be translated to the German word "Beutel"...
Personaly I would enjoy a longer version of West Hill, I think the currently layout is superb, but I wish there was at least one longer variant or one shorter variant, and with hopefully a very very long straight leading to a very tight hairpin, because we dont have much of that with any of the tracks, aston comes close but its more of a curve than a hairpin, i made tracks for nascar 2003 and that type of situation almost always made for good racing
I have already taken a video in Austria with an awesome open road track which would be damn nice as snow inferno rally stage
very nice and tricky turns, just gotta ask my father where he has his cassettes, so I can upload it
I made it a year ago or so...

So if there WILL be an editor, I will be there to implement this track
I only used the Umlaut because I did a Google search of Nurburgring to double check my spelling. This means that google is in fact at fault (slightly), and therefore I remain undefeated.

Hurrah!
