Steering Lock Mod (drifting) z28
(54 posts, started )
Host is working and online now.
Just to say I've only just tried out this mod and it's fantastic. One can only hope they include this level of lock as an option in S3 when it eventually rears it's ugly head.

That said, I've just tried to go online with it and kept on dropping off the server with OOS issues.
Host sometimes after main server restart is going to normal mode. Write on my PM or kamkor's if you have any problem with OOS. Attach replay if u can.
one thing bothers me..

tweak wont work with the steermod..

thats kind of a bummer..

While this is neat, it strikes me that the allowed angle is 47-57...
The most I know of is from that GP Sports Super Knuckle, and a pair of those will set you back around 1000USD. They'll get you to about 50 degrees out of a 240sx...
If I recall correctly, most of the cars in D1 run around 41-48 (I don't remember how old the Drift Tengoku that I saw that in is though).

I guess what I'm saying is, if you're going mess with the realism, or change the car with a bunch of lock, why not give it a sixth gear and a couple hundred more bhp? Maybe a standard D1 car for the LFS drifting community?

I'm inclined to agree with Morpha et al regarding modding dedis being a slippery slope, but I figure there should be some consistency in the way the car(s) is/are modified.

What do you guys think of that?
Maybe eventually having an XRR with D1 specs. Nothing cosmetic, just change the engine etc. around, even just as a test, like the LX8 etc.

Driftworks GeoMaster Knuckles + offset rack spacers, tein rods and ends and a few spacers would give you that much lock at a push. Probably nearer 55* mind. That's all off the shelf, relatively cheap stuff. In reality the XRT has so much on it that's custom tuneable that simply isn't on a standard SX, for example, that the ability to run to that much lock makes very little difference in my eyes. To have a Silvia of any kind as adjustable as the XRT is in game you'd be looking at between £6-10,000 (depending on parts quality) if bought new before you even look at extra power so I don't see the lock being unrealistic in that sense.

At the moment, however, from a drifters point of view the tyre physics are so unrealistic that they're seriously hot with the lockmod by the end of one lap of Aston Club rev. If you link the whole track from lap 2 onwards then you pop the tyres half way through lap 5. Add another 100bhp on to the current setup and that time would half. It'd make the game almost unplayable with the current physics and certainly, in this instance, less realistic. I know there's a large portion of the community who pre-heat before doing a run and then say 'it's what they do in real life'. It's not. In real life I've preheated tyres to get them MORE grippy, not less, and I certainly wouldn't be expecting to have that level of traction loss, or speed of tyre heating, in an actual competition - even in 30-40*c heat.
Some random pictures from Poland.

Yeah, sorry. Just re read that and noticed it looked like a massive ramble. I'll

Been using the mod as a test recently though as I've just picked up a parts sponsor which'll include some mental lock for this season. In reality 55* of lock is more than anyone, anywhere, could ever possibly need before it just becomes silly. That's the aim for me this season just with a jig'd up steering crossmember and custom knuckles inspired by Powered By Max stuff. Total cost <£100.

This "steering-tweak" is amazing!!
Its so hard to make the car spin around and so easy to "lead" the car wherever you want.
Best thing thats happened to LFS. Just hopes it comes with the next original LFS-verson.

JUST LOVE IT!!

Whenever I try and join an online server with the new lock .exe file i get an OOS-Set error message and it kicks me out then keeps trying to reconnect, If i join the server using the original un modified .exe file I can join fine. Can anyone spread any light?

Cheers

srsly?

It's because it like a 'cheat'. You maybe have an advantage, you modified your files, lfs doesn't allow that online, like lfstweak, wouldn't be fair either.
Ah I see, kinda new to the online side of LFS so still learning. Assuming it'll only work on specific servers then?
you cant use a car with ANY mdified values online, it simply wont work...
1st post:

Dedicated servers that work with this mod:
- Saiko D Steering Lock Mod
And on 42D Steering Lock Mod
Is "Saiko D Steering Lock Mod" working good?

Yeah, like posted above my post. Your data must be the same as the host, so if the host uses this mod, and you will, you can join. If you don't use it, you will get he same error as you do use it, and server doesn't.
Ok so I tried going on to that saiko d server and i'm still getting the same OOS-SET error message? What am I doing wrong?

Cheers
Sorry to bump a long dead thread but what's the deal with the lock-mod servers? I've not had internetzzzz in a couple of months and, now I'm back on, they aren't up at all...
Nice post...Thank you very much!!......
