I will pay you 5K if you get my internet speed anywhere near that. Sky broadband, because of the village im in, can't reach past 0.5meg ON a good day. (1am-4am).

I pay about 60$ for that, and that includes about 70 channels for tv, and phone.
So only good thing in baltic states is fast and cheap internet?

and yet it still fails when i play lfs

I hear the women are hot too.
Weeeeee i finally got my upgrade on my upload speed.

my connection has been working solidly, but then i am in london so thats kind of expected.... (that and it costs an arm and a leg to have)

I feel like im one of the few people on Virgin Media that is actually happy with the service im provided with lol

Quote from danthebangerboy :
i think it speaks for itself, absolute joke of a speed IMO.

Mine used to be that slow. Ask your next door neighbour if he would share? You could pay half. Or complain to BT. Nine times out of ten its the old BT network that is worn out from years of weathering. It especially effects those who get a service from above ground lines. i.e rural areas.

My virgin service is usually great, I've only had the odd hiccup in nearly 10 years with them (and NTL) but when it does go tits up it is infuriating trying to get any help.

I recently went through nearly two months of trying to inform them that they had a peering problem that was stopping me from being able to work from home, I literally never got to speak to anyone who understood what I was talking about - even their "broadband specialist" who they gave me an appointment to speak to and I had to wait a week, didn't know what the **** I was talking about. He said "Can you send me an email in just laymans terms?". NO! THAT'S WHY I'VE BEEN ASKING TO SPEAK TO AN ENGINEER FOR TWO ****ING MONTHS!

In the end the problem went away, but I'd had to commute to Wakefield every day to get any work done and if there's one thing I hate it's keeping office hours.
Quote from skstibi :I am laughing at mine. It looks fine in the test but it is not consistent and it cuts out a lot. I had a much smoother connection on my 3mb line about a year and a half ago and I could race online without lag. With the 10mb line I am lagging quite a bit.
Edit: I still lag with this... WTF http://www.speedtest.net/result/1072559052.png

Just proves faster is not always better, 60% packet loss?

yes.
your connection is over its limits.
call your isp and tell them to downgrade u down a bit on ur download.
will make your inet much more stable.
Quote from CrAZySkyPimp :Nice Gotta be a company or something ye? AFAIK Lund in southern Sweden in the only city in the world where you as a private customer can get 1gig-line to your home That'd be hot !

That's home connection. And in Sweden, alot of countries offer 1 gbit/s, here it's only in capital city
ok this is for an AOl 8mb connection

AOL get a load of stick, but for me they've always been the best connection for our location (as long as you don't use their software), when we were on dial up the connection was often reported by test sites as being an ISDN connection and the sped advantage compared to neighbouring houses seems to have stayed on broadband

just got home from college... I hate how the internet is so slow when I come home. Probably because I only go through a wireless router.

my connection at college is much, much faster. found this online, and I've seen it faster.

Pretty happy with the results I guess. UPC higher my Download speed by 5mbps each year just for a contract extension, for same price

Here in JA. I think thats on a 10 mb connection

all your ISP seems to have very slow upload?

Probally a dumb question, but I'll ask anyway - you are running with a cable and not wireless yes?

If you are using wireless you basically canot gurantee any speed at all. Sure, you payed probally xxxx bucks for the nice wireless equiptment, but it won't matter, it will cause speed problems and in the long run beeing a slow, painfull experience.

The main problem is that 99% of the wireless stuff in your house runs on the same frequence. This causes much of the trafikk that runs through the air to get messed up, slowed down and basically cock-ing-up everything. Now, there are some wireless equptment that works better than others, and on some you can even chose the frequenze you want to run on and channels.

But god forbid if you try coming here complaining on the speed you get, when you sitting on wireless network IMO
Wireless channels 1,6 and 11 do not clash I believe. They also run at very slightly different frequencies. I think it's 2.37Mhz for Ch1 through to about 2.43 for Ch13 (or something like that).

Changing your channel is a good way to try and avoid packet ****ups. I used to use wireless living at my Mummies house and it was fab, even though it was on AOL 1mb. the Netgear router was good and reception was fine...no lag on LFS or any other internet games!
Good to hear you found a sollution to the "fab" connection
Either way, when you are playing online games, NEVER EVER IN LOVE OF GOD use wireless! Even if it feels smooth for you the others are crying over your horrible laginess. Sure, there are probally people who don't lag, but most of you using wireless and playing online is a complete nightmare.

Please, if possible (yes rather use 100meter cables) use wires connection rather than wireless. Do the test with cable and without, to see if you exerpience same results. Also cross-check computer, try on various computers. Be sure that any other computer connected are turned off, physically.
When I used to play LFS on CTRA or whatever the one after it became, on a server of 45 people I could race bumper to bumper (normally I was leading by miles though I would like to add ) and bump people etc and none of us would go flying off into the stratosphere.

Then again I may have just configured wireless properly and also been aware of interference of other things so planned accordingly. Wireless on it's own is brilliant. People put microwaves, satellites, other wireless devices, etc in the vicinity (normally the same room) and then complain. It's not the wireless, it's them!!

In my experience anything more than about 50 meters of RJ45 cabling can give problems, especially if these cables run past electrical devices such as lights or main power cables.

Wireless is a pretty good solution IMO, especially for home users who don't want cabling running about everywhere.

Currently my internet solution is either my Blackberry or one of those wireless USB dongles. We do have Sky 20mb but that's getting activated on the 22nd of December so until then, we're using this.

I've run that test several times and all gotten within 99% of each other. Not bad eh considering it would work in the middle of a field.
