Got my case! Now I need the parts.


I finally got my computer case so now I can start building a decent rig for editing videos. All I'm really gonna use it for is to run Vegas and AE. Maybe play some lfs and cod4 pc. I have a budget of $500 so obviously it's not going to be top of the line but something decent, and the computer case was free if anyone can make me a list from newegg I'll be ever so greatful

Btw, I'm looking for the obvious stuff. Power Supply, motherboard, processor, graphics card, ram, HDD ect, ect

Specs: AMD Phenom II X6 1090T 3.2 Ghz six-core CPU, 8 GB DDR3-1600 RAM, Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB HDD, NVidia GeForce GT 440 (should be enough even for MW3 if you're not running over 9000 monitors).

Do you have an OS to install? Also, if it's going to be mainly used for video editing you might be better off dropping to 4GB of RAM and sticking another drive in there on onboard RAID0.

I have a 1.5tb external that I use to keep all my videos. And the case is mid ATX. Is that a problem?

To get into pagefile?
+ extra RAM really helps alot on video editing due to caching of frequently accessed files

I meant do you have a copy of an Operating System to install (or do you need to buy one)?

I'd much rather have a lot more disk bandwidth available. Plus we don't know yet if the OP is going to be running a 64-bit OS.

I have a 32-bit copy of windows 7 home premium. I can get a copy of W7 64 ultimate if it really matters. and this is a pic of the back and top

I also got 2 builds from another forum. Which one would be best? 1st is AMD and 2nd is INTEL

That HDD is totally horrid, don't go for it. Take a HD103SJ I have recommended to you instead. It's almost 2x faster while being just $20 more expensive (and 2x bigger in terms of storage space).

+ WD's fail alot.

You said you were getting a PSU from a friend but both the systems above include PSUs. The question of 32 vs 64 bit was in relation to the amount of memory you can use (32 bit system you'll be able to use <4GB as main memory, 64 bit you can use a lot more).

I agree on drive selection but I think the OP would still benefit from a RAID0 setup.

Ill probably be buying the PSUs with everything but get the 64bit OS from my friend instead.

The guy who posted the other builds said your mobo was "shit" and that I should stick with his. I'll probably take his mobo since its an ASUS one and just put that into your build.

No idea how he can claim it's shit without actually owning one. I have one for almost 2 years and only bad thing about it is lack of onboard GPU (would be fine for using that board in e.g. HTPCs).

1. XMS memory will not go over 1333 MHz on AMD systems. Take one I suggested instead :P
2. As you saved on CPU, you indeed should take two of those HDDs and RAID-0 them.

Otherwise it's fine.

Actually with PAE enabled OS and CPU you can use more RAM than 4GB. Sadly on desktop "oriented" OS from M$ it is not possible to run more than 4GB of RAM, because of "driver compatibility issues" and mainly, M$ licensing "issue". They use PAE only if and for the NX-bit.

It's spelled "MS".

32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows have totally same price (and, actually, when buying retail x64 - you're getting a x86 for free, and vice versa).
