Engine / Suspension damage carried to race.
Just a thought that crossed my mind:

It pays off to flat-shift (in certain cars) in qualify session to get a better time. It'd be nice if the possible engine damage (and crash damage if you crash) would be carried over to the race that you're qualifying for.

This way you'd have to think twice about pushing your car over the limit in the qualify session as you might end up having a borked engine.

Feel free to flame away.
Good idea! Tyre wear could also be included.

Aye, that sounds good. Glad i'm not the only one who thinks this would be nice

I think this will go well for leauges, but when you just want to get on LFS and drive I don't want to worry to much about that and just race.

Nice Idea tho I think it could work quite well.

Andy.
This depends of what kind of races LFS tries to simulate. Many real life races span over longer time than just qualify and race. The qualify maybe on saturday and the race itself on sunday. In this time it is easy to fix the engine and other parts of the car. Maybe a totaled car couldn't be fixed in time for the race, but all the minor problems are easy to fix in a day with a professional crew. And what comes to tyres, they atleast could be changed for the race in few seconds like they do on a pit stops. So not being able to change between qualify and race would be unrealistic.
if so, it should be an additional serverside option - most things that look good for one series would make things worse in another series

so the only way to bring things like this into the game would be a serverside option (like the forced pitting or the mid-race-join) where the host decides if he wants damage carried on or not

Good points all round. Server side option sounds like the best option for leagues to configure it like they want it.
I like this idea alot... all points are good.... s3?

???

Its made already.
But it doesn't carry over from one race to the next.

Although, I don't think changing tyres is really beyond even the lowest forms of racing.
i find it a good idea

of course there has to be some limits to it i think

say.. its an option for servers (cause i mean.. im sure some people would hate what they did right after a race carry to the next [..we all have those moments where we floor it into a wall; i mean.. that would suck to have that carried onto the next race])

also just to bring up a problem.. all people would do is just pit before the restart; so basically.. the way i see this improvement best for is for teams. On public servers i see this as becoming a problem in a way (or could become a problem)
nonetheless i like the idea
Well actual F1 has such a rule that you have to use same tyres in qualifying and race. But that would be league dependent.

I know in Nascar, they also have a backup car. So if they smoke or toast the engine or car, they go to the backup car, but get put in the back of the field at start. Do they use backup engines/cars in other race series?

Do they use the exact same set for qualifying and race, or just the same type of tire?
ya about to say.. im pretty sure that its just that TYPE of tire.. and im not sure about that.. what happened to what? hockenheim (was that last weekend?) when they couldnt decide

what would happen in a situation like that; if you have slicks for qualifying.. but during the race its raining..? kinda confused about a situation like that

i believe its the stickyness of the tire that they have to keep.. but im not sure

yup. people have been mentioning this for a long time. and now with the faster gtr cars it would just be great to have engine damage. even if its not super complex it would be nice to have something. It would add some interesting twists to racing.
Exactly the same set. And if they need to change during a race, they can only change the unsafe tyre, not refuel at the same time, and the 'new' tyre has to be the one that's done the most miles I think (or at least very scrubbed).
Exeptions are only made in changing conditions, like sunny in qual and wet in race. Or changing conditions in race. Thats a bit more complicated. In this case they can. 1. If they're on wet tyres change the whole set, wet/wet or wet/dry and fuel up, or if they have to change to wet tyres it's the same.

For dry conditions, if they have to change a tyre, they don't have to take a tyre with most mileage but it has to be a tyre that has actually been driven in one practice.
Flat shifting if slower. If you using a manual cluch, its quicker to cut the throttle and change gear very fast, double cluching is also quicker for changing gear as it cuts the sycro cone on the gear box, thus making shifts quicker,

Cheers
would be good if it could be turned on for leagues/competitions because many people mess around in qualifying and hit other people, which would then ruin their qualifying and race which isn't very fare tbh.

SHUSH!! stop telling people my secrets!! i need all the advantages i can get

I dont think I ever double clutch on purpose though.. I shift very very quickly while still lifting off and I sometimes healtoe and shiftdown twice when people would normally shift down once. I still dont match revs perfectly every singtime when downshifting yet in gtr and formula cars, but i am getting there. There are much more important things to worry about..
Yeah, i cant heal and toe yet, still trying to do it,

Oh i forgot flat shifting is faster :*
