After 75 minutes of GTR action 4 weeks ago,RTFR XL offered somewhat easier combination - our own Catherham replica was raced on it's practically home ground - english track of Rockingham. Qualifying already showed that there won't be a dominating winner,first 8 laps of the race only confirmed it - leading 7 drivers were covered by just 5 seconds,9th lap practically broke the chained train as 2 seperate incidends spread the field out and left few drivers trying to regain their lost positions,leading to rather time gap racing for the rest of the race.
Dzidoris took the lead in 9th lap and gave it away just when he entered pitlane for his mandatory pitstop,he regained lead due pitstop and celebrated his 1st win of the longer RTFR version,becoming 4th different winner of the event,he also picked up his 1st fastest lap of the race and 2nd top5 finish. Camoradi also used the 9th lap to gain positions,which he never gave up due his pace - 2nd place finish for him in finish,improving his previous best result by 1 position,5th top5 finish for the croatian,tying up with Spencer for the lead in this category. Due late pit strategy Rony led for 15 laps before pitting and returning to track in 3rd position for final 2 laps,4th top5 finish for him,R.Kardol missed the qualifying,so he had to start from back of the grid as a wildcard starter,4th position in the results,which is his 2nd entry in top5,J.A.Katila is 5th in final results due his compatriot's penalty,also he is now 2 top5 finishes rich. Something is missing? Yes - pole position was taken by Mikke,which is his 3rd already,but in race he could not create safe gap during his 8 leading laps and due unlucky lag-touch with Dzidoris he spun in lap 9,never was able to come back into race,he finished just laps needed to fulfill 50% distance and retired earning 8th position in final results.
* FUN FACT OF THE MONTH :
After 2 months break RTFR XL has a new member in it's Winners club - 3 weeks after he entered the RTFR Winners club. The fun fact is not about the close entry dates but about car - both his wins came from LX4 races,allthough in different conditions.
* CLOCK PITTER OF THE RACE :
Been a while since last time when the fastest pitstop was made without pitwork,road going cars obviously allows such option - Rony stopped and just waited 10.26s to pass before leaving pitstop,it was the shortest workless pitstop of the race. J.A.Katila had an even quicker pitstop,but he serviced his car with some fuel.
* FIELD RUSHER OF THE RACE :
Plus 3 positions were gained by starting 5th and finishing 2nd - Camoradi is the field rusher of yesterday's race. Also 3 positions gain for R.Kardol,but lower finish position gives him just 2nd best climb.
* HONORABLE MENTION :
After pretty weak qualifying the numbered lad could keep up with the early 7-car group,he run decent pace setting one PB after another,at the end finishing in 5th position,but... Well,9397's pitstop was too short,earning him 16.1 seconds penalty,which threw him out of top5 position. Still 6th position is 5 positions improvement from his previous best finish result - 11th.
In 4 weeks the 75 minutes race will return,currently without information about next combo as the winner had some thoughts about his choice,but never gave the final answer - he still has time until next tuesday for his choice,submittable over PM here. But already next week 30 minutes racing will continue - more info about next RTFR during this weekend.
But Race Green Events activity does not end with RTFR - already in less than 2 weeks the 3rd season of Formula V8 series called V8 Racing League will start it's quite short 4 rounds season. 3 rather short tracks and Westhill's longer configuration is on the menu this year,more information and signups in the VERL 2017 forum thread:
