As predicted, the Winter 200 is the round with highest chance to bring some changes in the league table,as at speeds this high things can go wrong much faster than anywhere else. It didn't look like that from the start though - the winner of both previous rounds did score a bonus point for fastest lap in qualifying, even if it was only shared, and the first half of the race was led by duo consisting from both front row starters. But the 1st RGA-LLM duo was chased and later catched up by other RGA-LLM duo,and this is where the winner came from - Sobis survived the 1st highspeed incident and avoided the 2nd one to become sole leader of the race and cross the finish line first. Michal and Mensafest spend most of the race together with slingshot drafting, passed the cars having an incident and in final lap Michal was able to get a secure gap to score 2nd place finish, leaving Mensafest 3rd. At the last lap sprint to finish line Eza kept his car ahead of Rony for 4th place.

So the round 3 brought back some intrigue to championship - the table lead was cut from 11 points to 1,while V.Laguckas still leads over his countryman Sobis. Dzidoris is still 3rd,but the gap to lead has been increased to 16 points and he has 3 other drivers within 3 points from him. The FXR Master standings now has a new leader - the winner of this round Sobis now takes the lead and has 3 points advantage over V.Laguckas, the winner of this award will be decided on dirt in Blackwood RXGP. Sobis takes also the lead in Oval Trophy standings, which will be decided already in next round, also on dirt in Dusty 100 of Westhill. There has been a lead change also in chase for Rookie of the Year award - the standings now are led by Mensafest,Unite is 2nd 7 points behind.

LLM scored less points than in previous 2 rounds, but still most from all teams,so they keep extending their lead,it's now 32 points over RGA,3rd position is now taken by WCL another 17 points behind. In Nations Cup the situation is similar - Lithuania keeps pulling away from the competition and has now 38 points lead. 2nd still is Finland (they were 2nd after round 2,but due mistake it was not shown so in table),while Czechia leads 3 nations points tie for 3rd place on tiebreaker.

Next round will feature left turns only again, but for the first time in AWS history it will be run on a dirt oval. Round 4 Dusty 100 of Westhill will be a start of 2nd half of the season and also 1st of 2 Cross Challenge rounds. But it will be also the deciding race for Oval Trophy and the middle one of 3 RB4 Master rounds. Racers will be introduced to the brand new 600 meters short oval in classic shape featuring 4 turns and 2 straights, but to spice things up,there is some elevation between turns. Due low amount of testing, there is a small miscalculation while building pit entry and exit lanes - they will be slightly widened before raceday to ensure safer and damage free entry and exit to and from pits.

Round 4

Sunday,17th February
19:00 UTC / 20:00 CET / 21:00 EET

After 1 year departure AWS is back in the green infield area of Westhill. Bach then a turn rich track was presented, this year it's different - just 4 left turns, all of them might seem same. But they aren't - turns 1 and 2 have just under 90° and less gap between them than turns 3 and 4,which are just over 90°,this is due both longer straights not being parallel. Also the elevation changes during turns,so only if track is practiced well you can do one seemless slide through both turns. No tyre issues in this track unlike in most other RB4 races, drivers just need to pick the right ones, but during race traffic is to be expected,as the laptime difference of just 1 second means lapping the car each 23-25 laps.
As usually the qualifying system is different from other rounds,as in oval only hotlap qualifying shows truly the fastest driver while on track this short traffic might become a huge issue. The running order of qualifying will be decided from Drivers Championship standings - lowest placed drivers will start qualifying while standings leader will take his run last. Everyone will have to run 3 laps - outlap and 2 timed hotlaps, after which driver should spectate, only fastest lap counts of course. 2nd timed lap is optional,in case of a mistake, driver can spectate without finishing 2nd timed lap.

After half of the season the gap between leading 2 drivers in standings is just 1 point with all others at least 16 points behind leader - that's one round win worth amount of points. This round will practically decide if anyone will be able to extend this duel to 3 or even 4 way battle for championship. Oval Trophy is up for grabs in this race - 1st of 2 award rounds is done and taken by Sobis, can anyone challenge him for this title?

Intense - that's the word best describes racing in a 600 meter oval layed out on slippery grass. The wide track allowed relatively wide variation of racelines able to generate similar speed on course, this led to quite few battles on track and a lot of position changes, while traffic played an impacting role. Despite starting from outside of row 2,Sobis was able to advance up the field and just before midpoint of the race - challenge the leader. After few position changes,Sobis finally could keep the lead and later even pull away, underlining his performance by setting new track record. Michal did set the best lap in the very short qualifying and kept his 1st position from start until was catched and passed by Sobis, still 2nd position at the finish - same top 2 positions as in previous round. Unite advanced a total of 6 positions between green and chequered and finished 3rd,which is his best AWS race finish.

Due 2 of top 3 drivers not attending in this round, the championship table has a lot of changes now. With 2 back to back wins and main rival not starting,Sobis is now on top of the standings with 16 points advantage over previous leader V.Laguckas,Michal is now 3rd,3 points off 2nd place. Theoretically 9 drivers are eligible for the championship, but realistic chances to pass current leader are slim also for 2 closest drivers as it requires outstanding performance and additionally also bad performance from Sobis in at least 1 of following rounds. In battle for Rookie of the Year award there has been a lead change again - Mensafest lost his track position due false start and had to rejoin from pits as a penalty for that, losing a lot of potential points - Unite is now leading again, but has just 1 point advantage with 2 rounds to come.

Already one individual award has been decided - round 4 was 2nd and last round for Oval Trophy, since Sobis won both rounds, there's no discussions about award winner. Michal finished 2nd in both races, which automatically puts him 2nd in these conditions,Rayman collected 6th and 5th place finishes, which was enough for 3rd position in Oval Trophy final standings. RB4 Master standings has a new leader - due 1st RB4 round winner not attending,it was an easy lead change for Sobis,he is now 6 points ahead of Michal and another 6 poins ahead of V.Laguckas. Theoretically 6 drivers can still win this award,it will be decided in AWS 2019 final round at Fern Bay in it's Gold configuration. Also the previous round was 1 of 2 Cross Challenge rounds - the winner Sobis has now 2 points lead over Michal and he has to prove that he can make also right turns on the dirt well to keep the lead for this award.

Despite having just 1 driver for this round,LLM still scores most points between teams and stretches the lead to 35 points over RGA. WCL and MRc have still possibility to overthrow the lead from accordingly 3rd and 4th positions, but their chances are pretty small. In Nations Cup no real changes happened at the top - both highest rated nations Lithuania and Finland scored 16 points in previous round, keeping 38 points gap. No other nations can claim this award this year. Both these awards can be secured before final round already.

The intense 600 meter oval turned out to be fine addition to AWS schedule and will be used for racing at some point in other RGE events. After back to back Oval Trophy rounds,we're in the middle of back to back Cross Challenge rounds already - up next is the most classic AWS round Blackwood RXGP. This is the combo the league was created from in the old times, allthough was not in the schedule once in the new times. It will be the 1st time the configuration Rallycross will be run in the clockwise direction in the new Blackwood. Even if running a slick tyre car on partially dirt track is an odd combo,it is still the fastest way around it,clocking laptimes of under 1 minute. Tyres will become an issue again after 2 "easier" rounds,so everyone has to make sure to be well prepared.

All-wheel-drive Winter Series 2019
Round 5

Sunday,3rd March
19:00 UTC / 20:00 CET / 21:00 EET

This weekend the All-wheel-drive Winter Series is back to basics - in the ancient times some crazy racers (including yours truly) found out FXR makes a heck of a rallycross car even with slick tyres, this is where the idea of the series was born, all the other rounds were built around 2 FXR rallycross rounds. Later the unpopular race at Fern Bay's short rallycross track was ditched, but the Blackwood RXGP has been almost every year on AWS menu, except for the failed Fern Bay RX experiment in 2016. It is difficult to describe how exactly you need to drive with FXR on dirt - right slide angle and throttle control are the basics, rest is just practice and some more practice. Despite racing in the new Blackwood for the first time at the normal direction of the track, there are no doubts that the magic 1 minute mark will be beaten by quite many drivers.

This is round 5 of 6 of the series and there might be few early title decisions. The Cross Challenge award is to be surely decided - this race is the 2nd of 2 races for this award and also FXR Master award will be decided - 3rd round of 3. But theoretically also the main title, teams championship and nations championship can be clinched during this race leaving only RB4 Master title open for final round. But that's only a possibility as everything can go other way round for these titles just like the cars can go upside down.

Also this is the final chance to qualify for season finale - only drivers, who have scored at least 1 point will be allowed to take part in round 6.

Round info:
Track: Blackwood Rallycross (BL3)
Laps: 41 (75km)
Car: FXR
Previous winners : DzidorisIII (2018), nsys|MareX (2017), CoRe A.Laipnieks (2015), 22 S.Jurvansuu (2014), CoRe T.Lähteenmäki (2013), spdoreno (2012)

Only 8 AWS racers were up to the AWS slippery classic of FXR rallycross at Blackwood, but all of them were at that point in top10 of championship standings. The defending Cross Challenge champion and Blackwood RXGP winner Dzidoris started from middle of the 3-wide front row and took the lead already in 1st turn and led the leading 3-car group for 1st 5 laps, where he got passed by his countryman Sobis. Few laps later he managed to repass Sobis, but the fight ended with contacts leading to lost lead to Unite, who just before half distance mark gave the lead back to Dzidoris due destoyed dampers. Dzidoris led the remaining half race and celebrated his 2nd race win an this track in row. Sobis lost ground to the leader and finished 2nd 17 seconds back, but he did steal the fastest lap of the race by 0.01s early in the race. Last step on the podium was taken by polesitter Rony, who lost the good starting position due own mistake in turn 1. The rookie Mensafest finished 4th,followed by veteran Snoopy in 5th.

16 points advantage was a great cussion to be relatively sure about championship chances - Sobis increased it to unreachable 26 points, which means that the lithuanian clinches the Drivers Championship before final round of the season. But the battle for vice-champion honor is still wide open - Michal currently is 2nd in standings, but just 2 points ahead of Rony and 5 points ahead of V.Laguckas and Dzidoris, with another 4 drivers within theoretically possible range. Back and forth situation is in the battle for Rookie of the Year title - Mensafest is back in the lead and has now 3 points advantage over Unite.

The new champion Sobis clinched another 2 individual titles - finishing 2nd in final round for FXR Master award was enough to clinch it,2nd in standings is Dzidoris with 11 points gap,3rd - Mensafest. Also Cross Challenge award went to Sobis - he won 1st of 2 rounds and finished 2nd in the other. Michal is 2nd,Rony 3rd. Just RB4 Master award left to win - Sobis has 6 points advantage over Michal before final round, which is a great chance to make the season perfect.

With 2 podium finishes in this round for RGA,Teams Championship is still open - LLM has 22 points advantage though. RGA has to score 23 points more than LLM in final round to turn the championship around, close to impossible, but RGA is the only other team besides LLM,which has scored this amount of points in single round. Battle for 3rd position is also still open - WCL has 2 points gap over MRc,so they have to score good points to defend their 3rd position. No surprise was Nations Cup outcome - Lithuania secures their 3rd title in row and Finland has also locked their 2nd position for 2nd year in row. 3rd position is still open - Czechia is 3 poins ahead of Latvia with Austria still within range. All these are single driver nations though.

Probably the hottest race of the season is now complete, only 1 round is left to challenge - Jamaican Trophy. This is a round that has been a rallycross round all the time it was on schedule, now it returns as road course round - the Fern Bay configuration named Gold is the final dish served in AWS2019. RB4 tyres will be melting in the Caribbean sun,but that's nothing new for experienced drivers - preperation is the key for good results here.

All-wheel-drive Winter Series 2019
Round 6

Sunday,17th March
19:00 UTC / 20:00 CET / 21:00 EET

It is the 7th AWS Jamaican Trophy, but this year for the 1st time it will be all tarmac track to challenge - the sprintish configuration named Gold, featuring a hairpin, tricky chicanes, fast sweepers and tight 90° turns. For those who are long time LFS racers there is no need for track description,as it is probably one of the more familiar tracks. Knowing RB4's trait of being quite heavy on it's road super tyres,it will be a balancing race - faster laptimes will result in hotter tyres, drivers must pace it right for better overall result in the 26 laps race.

5th round brought a lot of conclusions to series, there are just 3 titles still open, only real fight probably will be for Rookie of the Year award where Mensafest has 3 points advantage over Unite, other 2 open titles have rather distinctive leaders. But of course not only titles count - in most tables still all other places are still to be set in the right order - it's up to the motivation of the drivers how hard they want to race in final round to improve or protect their current position. As always in AWS,only drivers who have scored at least one point before the final round may take part in it - this year 21 drivers have qualified for the season finale.

Round info:
Track: Fern Bay Gold (FE3)
Laps: 26 (91km)
Car: RB4
Previous winners (all in rallycross events) : DzidorisIII (2018 / RB4), [WCL] A.Valta (2016 / FXR), CoRe A.Laipnieks (2015 / RB4), RGˆMatiss (2014 / RB4), CoRe T.Lähteenmäki (2013 / RB4), spdoreno (2012 / RB4)

(browse for various championships and single round results)

9 drivers were ready to take the fate of their final standings positions in their own hands and joined the closing round of 2019 AWS season. V.Laguckas set the fastest lap in qualifying and started the hot race from the very front of the grid. He seemingly took very conservative approach to the race and kept the pace as low as possible just to hold on his lead and keep the tyre temperatures in drivable range. Later in the race he lost the lead for few meters to regain it as you can see in the video above - 3rd win of the season in his stats. Michal used his chances to advance to 2nd place, but his bid for lead ended with bad line in next turn, but at least he regained his 2nd position, repeating his best finish this season for 3rd time. The candidate for Rookie of the Year award Unite finished 3rd despite taking 2nd early in final lap,he also repeated his best finish position of the season. Top5 was closed off by 2 RGA drivers - Dzidoris in 4th,Rony in 5th.

Full season recap and final standings will be posted later this week.

All-wheel-drive Winter Series 2019 final standings:

Championship spreadsheets

The 8th year of AWS is now complete, let's take a little look back to it. The defending champion Fast started the season well in 1st round by finishing in stron 2nd,but after few minor incidents during 1st lap of round 2 he retired and never joined back - since no other previous champions are active,it was clear that AWS will have the 8th different champion. Numbers in this season have dropped down a bit - 29 signups,22 actual competitors, only one of them failed to score a point. 4 drivers were present in all 6 rounds, another 4 missed just 1 round. Attendance ranged between 16 in 3rd round and 8 in 5th round, averaging 12-and-a-half drivers per round.

AWS 2019 Drivers Champion: LLM.Sobis
If one lithuanian layed down his title, other one picked in up - last year's 3rd best driver upped his performance this year by winning 2 rounds, finishing in top5 in other 3,scoring also 3 bonus points for fastest laps of the race, and all that despite him not qualifying higher than 4th in any round.
After not attending last year, the 2017 rookie Michal joined this season in just 2nd round and finished 2nd in half of all the rounds, collecting valuable points in other 2 and taking pole position in 4th round - this was enough to finish 2nd in final points standings. Season would have looked different if V.Laguckas would have joined in more than 4 rounds - he won the first 2 rounds, but due incidents finished just 9th in 3rd one, returned to action just in final round again and won it too,he was the polestitter in all 3 rounds he won,but set the fastest lap of the race in 2 of those - at the end 3rd position in final standings,1 higher than last year. In 4th place is Rony, who set the fastest lap in 1 round, took pole position in other, but had just 3rd as best round result, adding another 2 top5 finishes to the season results. 5th is last year's vice champion Dzidoris, who won 5th round, took pole position in 3rd and scored a total of 4 top5 finishes.

AWS 2019 Rookie of the Year: GenR uNite
This year the best rookie got up in 6th position in final standings - Unite finished in top5 in 3 rounds with best result 3rd in rounds 4 and 6. His closest rival was Mensafest, who took the lead in rookie standings 2 times, but did not attend in final round, practically giving Unite free ride for title.

AWS 2019 FXR Master: LLM.Sobis
Before taking overall championship this year,Sobis had already one title under his belt - and he defended it successfully this year by winning 1 round and finishing in top5 in another 2. 2nd is Dzidoris, who scored 11 points less in races with FXR.

AWS 2019 RB4 Master: [MRc] Michal
The vice champion Michal also got an individual award - he was the best in rounds with RB4,he collected 2 2nd place finishes and a 5th place finish. Just 2 points behind is V.Laguckas, who won 2 rounds, but did not join in other one.

AWS 2019 Cross Challenge winner: LLM.Sobis
The defending 2-time Cross Challenge winner Dzidoris missed out 1st of 2 races for this award and winning the 2nd one was not enough - the new winner is Sobis, who won 1st race and finished 2nd in 2nd. 2nd best in standings is Michal with 9 points deficit.

AWS 2019 Oval Trophy winner: LLM.Sobis
The Oval Trophy returned this year as a competition as 2 rounds were held in oval tracks and both main champion's wins were scored in oval races - no doubts about trophy winner here. 2nd best was again Michal with 2 2nd place finishes.

AWS 2019 Teams Champions: Last Lap Motorsports
Last Lap Motorsports defended their last year's teams championship, despite winning 5 of 6 races, scoring 8 top5 finishes and scoring 9 bonus points for pole positions and fastest laps, their avantage in table is everything else as dominant. The 4-time teams champions Race Green Autosports with great help of their guest driver kept up with leaders in standings,at the end finishing just 20 points behind - 1 win,7 top5 finishes and 3 bonus points. 3rd best was single driver team Master Race car, having the season's vice champion was enough to clinch place on the podium.

AWS 2019 Nations Cup winners: Lithuania
For the 3rd year in row the Nations Cup goes to Lithuania - allthough without absolute dominance as last year. But lithuanians did score all 6 round wins,5 pole positions and a total of 13 top5 finishes. 2nd best is Finland for 2nd year in row, scoring 4 top5 finishes and the final step on the podium is Czechia, represented by just 1 driver (again - the vice champion). The 5-time champions Latvia was represented by a single driver and finished just 4th in standings.

Race Green Events thanks all participants and wishes much success in all other leagues and events they are taking part. We hope you enjoyed racing in AWS and you all get much fun and valuable experience from the races.
The prize winners will receive PM during next week!

This is the paragraph, where the future plans of Race Green Events are posted. First about some new plans - as already announced in server during final round,Race Green Events will introduce new league using XRT as the only car, here's the teaser logo for this plan:

More details will be posted mid to late april.
RTFR and RTFR XL will continue as long as there is competition for the organizer, for the year 2019 there are even sponsorship from WCL team, everything is still open for new joiners. Late summer should experience the return of V8 Racing League for it's 5th season, hopefully in new updated tracks. And then we already have another winter (yeah, time flies when you're having fun),which should host the 9th season of AWS. And don't forget the traditional x-mas derby - let's hope the new updated tracks will feature a good place for another simple track for the crashfest.
