[email protected]
Please read the sticky above your thread and when done, let me know.
dont even try to suggest a real car for lfs.
much discussions around real cars and all have (had) the same end - licenses are too expensive.
luckily we have 2 real cars already and maybe we get more anyday.
but the chances that u / we get the car what ud like to have is about 1 to 1000000000.

Yep, we're up to 3 now.
Again, a catch 22. To attact more license sles, we need RL cars and names to attract a larger crowd. But to GET the brands in the first place rewquires the money generated from the scale. Well, welcome to RW economics, guys.
we dont need real cars, all we need to do is resemble "real" cars but call them a different name.
not totally rip them off but copy it enough so you'd think ah thats a Aussie V8 etc. etc....

Why can't the devs do a deal for the design rights in return for advertisment of their names?
lol im sure Rover would go cheap!

because i think LFS would have ALOT more to gain by using the FORD name for example than FORD would ever gain by being in LFS

so i guess thats why they'd charge mega money for a licence.

I completely agree with you about emulating RL performanc and handling without actually using the name. The XR GTT is basically a Mitsubishi Starion, and if it's powerband and turbo behaviour closely resembled the real car, it's practically a carbon copy, without the name. However, last time I suggested this, I copped quite a bit of flak. Hopefully there's no LFS police to shoot me down this time.
This hankering for real cars . . . . The more I play LFS the more I come to realise that we don't need 'real' cars. To some degree we have real cars already in LFS. (Other than the BF1 and the other thing) It's more down to the car platform than an actual car. If the physics engine is as competant as I know it is then what ever platform you give it to work with it will give you an accurate rendition of a 'real' life counterpart. And what with the massive amount of setup options you can give yourself different cars just by changing the suspension settings.

Within LFS a RWD, front engined low powered car handles how a front engined RWD car handles. Would it make any difference whether it is clad in a Toyota's MR2 body shell or a . . . nother car that is front engined RWD.

You are never going to know if the next mid engined car LFS releases handles like a Ferrari or a lambourghini. Because you have never driven one. But what you can be garanteeud of is that 'that' Mid engined sports car will handle like its got a powerful engine, driven rear wheels and the engine mounted between the axles.

So, no. We don't need 'real' cars in LFS as the cars are real enough already.
for us people that are already into LFS we dont need real cars. but to attract more new people real cars or cars that resemble real cars is a good way of attracting new people.

i have shown LFS to ALOT of people and they always give out about the sound and the fact theres no "real" cars and/or tracks.

it's more of a "shiney packet syndrome" than anything.

to me i would nearly prefere to not have real cars but to cover all types of cars... i.e. 4WD rally car, 4 Door Saloon Car, Aussie V8 type car... etc etc
I'm just worried of the quality of driving brought in by real cars, when every kid, wrecker & noob (I have nothing against newbies) thinks they're the best Don't really need RL cars, it would just result in endless complaints of the LFS cars not precisely matching their RL counterparts.
I agree almost completely with Funnybear, and have just one addition in relation to nikimere's post further up.

When it comes to the license issue, it's a big circle. You pay the fees and add the car to the game in the hope the plebs go "Ooh, I wanna drive a Lambugetti Fasterossa!" and shell out the green. The idea is that the devs make more from that than the initial cost.

Right now LFS is an alpha-stage product admirally being put together by 3 guys in (engage artistic license mode, captain) basements, living off what pizza and coffee the fans can pay for, trying not to think of the market fight with the big guys (cough cough Smellytronic Farts) as they make what is undoubtedly the most accomplished and realistic experience you can get without risking arrest and imprisonment, motion sickness and a sticky, wrapped-around-a-tree-death.

If, when they're happy with the physics and the UI has been user-friendly-atised (woo new word invention!), the car names we all know slowly start to be replaced with names that are more recognisable (cough again bloody hell Jamesxing I Google'd and you could be right cough) and easier to remember then that's great.

But until then I'm happy with my amazing handling, Scrabble-winning XFUB GTs
ow yeah
Who mentioned Rover licences being cheap? They'd have to pay ScaViEr to get them to put one of those pieces of rolling sh*t in LFS!
but one thing that i don't get ppl keep modding in GTR, Rfactor etc..
and there ALL RL cars why don't they get flamed of making RL cars, the modders didn't ask for permission or didn't pay for a license? why should we do it then (Scavier)

the mods aren't sold, if they were it would be illegal
oh ok, but scavier could make RL cars and put them on the main site as add-on cars and then the mods are also not for sale, or am i wrong?

yeas, but then they would be available in Demo...
hmm i think it should be a page were u have to enter ur in game username and pw and then u can download the cars, or every1 can download the cars but demo drivers just can drive the 3 demo cars like now
