Quote :autokick on swearing is a ****ing bollocks idea.

It's a great idea. Sometimes my nephews watch when i'm racing.
If there is a big sign at the server entry that ses. 'NO SWEARING!!' then fine, cool and dandy. I've been told so it's up to me. What I hate is the imediate kicks from foul language when you didn't happen to read the small print. I'm quite happy to be told and I can adjust my behaviour from then on. But it really gets my goat when I'm dumped out on my arse for using the 'ing word.

Used to really annoy me on BF2. A game about killing people in lots of imaginative ways and you can't swear on half the servers. You then get a perma ban because you said a naughty word. But you could still cheat and your still KILLING people. Couldn't understand that.

And in a way it's the same with LFS. Sure run a no swear server. It's your server so long as I'm told I'll obey or go somewhere else.

But I'm sure you hear real drivers swear in real life. Particularily if they are heading for a crash. This is a sim after all.

Plus as an englishman I know so many swear words that arnt' on half the swear filters out there. I love my language.
Quote from shim :IRL i swear heaps.. online its bout half as much, but its insane with how much i do swear.. im surrounded all the time with it from work, mates and other ppl.. so before i start playin im usually kicked from a LFS lapper server.. :P

I swear on MSN and Teamspeak a lot, but never in LFS.

Anyway, the S****horpe problem makes a f*cking mockery of swear filters. That's why IMO forums don't need it.
I F**'ing think you should be able to f**king swear where ever the bl**dy h*ll you F***king want to. Freedom of F***ing speech I say. No more F***king censorship, B*ll*cks to all s**ding that I say. Sc*ew the T**sing fat W**kers who dictate to me what I can and can't B**ody well say. D**n them all. D**n all them fat T***pots, the C***s, the G***s, the W****ry, T*t F***ing, A*** probing, G**, S*** headed A***holes!!!

(I once repeated that speech in church. Needless to say I was asked not to come back and could I please leave the collection plate behind. Do you know how hard it is to talk in stars. I don't think my sense of humour has a sense of preservation. And if you had any sense I wouldn't try and make any sense from the little speech obove. It's nonesensecal.)

The only thing i'm upset by is your avatar Kev illepall

There's another country that has a constitution with free speach in it, but it's not Wales (although Manhattan Island is technically private property belonging to a Welsh family descended from a pirate).
I agree that incessant swearing must be minimized. However, to ban someone just because one swears for some reason is potentially dangerous and possibly unfair.

For instance, someone who races well somehow has a bad day. Unfortunately he crashes that day on some online race for no fault of his own. In fact, he was basically "body braked" out of the track by some complete idiot who just can't race properly. Anyone would swear their hearts out because of this.

Imagine if a normally well mannered racer was banned permanently just because of 1 swear session due to no fault of his own. That would:

1. Drive him/her into a deeper hole.
2. Cause massive resentment of the server or even LFS itself.

Conclusively, judgement of one's right to stay shouldn't be based on the use of swear words themselves. It's only justifiable to ban someone if one swears pointlessly with remarkable consistancy, like that silly passage somewhere in this thread.

Right thats it . . I'm changing my flag. I am not welsh. Damn country. Didn't give me a job, did give me an ex, debt, a baby and sucked two years of my life away.

I am ENGLISH!!!

No idea why that flag is in my thingy so I'm going to find a way of changing it . . . . . . .

-edit- well that didn't work. Lets try again.

-edit- damnit. I dunno how to do it. But from now on please replace the welsh flag for the ENGLISH one. Ta.
You need to do it in LFSW.
Quote :Swearing, in general, is a show of lack in vocabulary

then ill admit im a thick f**k!!
I was playing online pool and I missed a shot. I put in the chat "Oh Bob!"

The american guy I was playing said "What?" I explained it was a UK slang word for sh*t. He said "Really? Is it? I thought you were asking me something, it happens to be my name."
I thought there was no ****ing swear filter on this forum?

As for in LFS an optional filter (like in N2003) maybe a worthwhile addition. IRL I often swear alot (situation depending) in LFS I occasionally swear and on the forums hardly ever.

EDIT - OK there is a swear filter but I'm sure it doesn't filter out crap or bollocks or bullshit
Stupid idea. I hate auto-censoring even on forums. It's just stupid. I have a right to swear if I see it's needed, goddamnit!

On the other hand lamer 1337!1111 language censoring would be good.

Then you have even less right to free speach! At least Welsh people can use Welsh and say what they like (because nobody can understand them).

EDIT:
Quote :I explained it was a UK slang word for sh*t.

I think you should have said it's a [insert name of road] slang word for it, because i've never heard the word Bob being used to describe such an effluent subject.

Me either... although I have been reliably informed that BOB means Battery Operated Boyfriend
Quote from Becky Rose :I think you should have said it's a [insert name of road] slang word for it,

Eh? I must be slow, I don't get this.

Really, have you guys never heard the term 'don't bob yer pants'?
Quote from Becky Rose :Then you have even less right to free speach! At least Welsh people can use Welsh and say what they like (because nobody can understand them).

Oh. Oh really.

Right. Ok then.

Like. Right. Yes. Fine. Sure. Ok . . . . Then.

Moving on. . ..

Ummmmmm.

Do you really believe you have a right to swear?
If so, I'd like to claim my right to avoid seeing swearing...stalemate!
Thats not stalemate. Thats freedom of choice. Don't be around him when he swears and he won't be around you when you don't won't him to swear.

But. Feel free to take the moral highground when you are around someone who swears. That way you can feel righteous, upstanding and proper. But If I find out that you only not swear on a sunday and that the first thing you say to your work colleagues on a monday morning is 'Hell yea!' then i withholde the freedom to call you a hypocrite.

My point being that nobody is perfect. I know saints who swear like troopers and sinners who are preachers. You make your choice and I shall make mine. I have nobody to blame but myself and I hold nobody to blame for you other than yourself.
Swearing only exists so mankind can offend itself.
Quote from StewartFisher :Do you really believe you have a right to swear?

Solution: per user preferences on swearing.

Quote from dontsimon :Swearing only exists so mankind can offend itself.

Surely thats an obvious statement?
Quote from [RCG]Boosted :its good...
when some1 calls anybody motherf.... or stuff like that thats a kick...
for shit or staff like that nothing.. the "light" words r ok but yea there alot of stuff that makes me wanting that option.

what means a silly kick from a server, he re-enteres and flooding with rekcufrehtom (<-- read that way) again, best way would be a filter like here in forum that makes instead of rekcufrehtom that ***********!

he can curse what he want but for us it will be just a mystery what he wants to tell us
Arse.

Thank you. I feel better for that.
