Just push hard, that's the mistake so many people make when they do any sort of track stuff.

I remember reading that some guy bought himself a performance car (can't remember the brand) and complained that he couldn't drive it quickly without it spinning. They got him down to a track and put him out, measured the temperature of the tyres and sent off there driver who found nothing wrong with the car. Measured the temperature of the tyres and they were a lot higher, bet that guy was embarrassed at being shown up as a bad driver

Hire karts generally use very hard compounds so you need to push them hard. Do what many people do and drive slowly trying to build there pace up and say hello to an embarrassing spin when you start trying to push.

Another thing to do is remember you can use the brake to set the kart up into the corner. If it's understeering you can use the brake pedal along with the steering wheel to introduce a bit of oversteer but don't over do it or you'll spin

I'll be doing a race in a couple weeks time hopefully, and all going to plan I'll get to race my Dad again We've both raced before, my Dad with a lot more experience in various types of racing but never on the track at the same time until a few months ago. Was awesome fun and turned out to be a great finale with us two battling hard.
I don't race, yet - but im keen to do some of the non-MSA events at boyndie, which is what Keiran will be racing in (I think ).

Hopefully do a few next year

Keiran, you coming up to boyndie this weekend - i'm marshalling!
I'm an old karting vet, got me a couple of titles and a window cill of trophies, a few lap records and trounced on (and got trounced by) various F1 stars of past and present. I stopped racing a few years ago after a car crash and have not yet found the money to buy a new kart and start racing again.

Quote :Anyone ever tried Red Lodge?

Yes. The track is ok, the facilities reasonable but the start 'straight' and turn 1 is a bit of a joke and it's a very narrow track. I preffer the new circuit at Wild Tracks which is practicaly opposite Red Lodge. My brother still races the owner-driver pro kart series at Red Lodge so I sometimes go along to help out.
Hi just wondering if this is the same becky that works at Manshee studios?

I've been getting a lot of this recently, numerous PM's and emails with transphobic abuse, even a now deleted comment on the youtube coverage of the STCC. I know where/who this abuse stems from, and I find it mildly amusing because I can put my hand on heart and say i'm not a man, can these people do the same? (transphobia usually has a route cause) They're right to a point because i'm more of a gentleman than the lot of them.

I do find it a bit dissapointing though, as it shows a narrow minded prejudice against a minority and I think that in itself makes this small group of people very sick and unpleasant people to have to share the internet with.
Quote from blackfang :he is hell of a good driver... On and off the tracks.....

I wonder how he can be a good driver off the tracks..?

On-topic: three of my teammates do real-life karting. Two (Kenneth and Chriskart) in ICA and the other (Thomm) in Holland (probably Rotax Max next season).

hmmmm, yeah, Turn 1 is a little bad (heck - you dont even need to brake!), but i like the rest of the track, esp the new bit (opened august - adds a little section making the track 1,200 Metres long) - might try the wild tracks one though, the way that "Top Kats" (the name of the club) gets treated Kart Wise is apaling, we never damage the Karts, but instead of giving us the quick 270's (which are used for corporate events), we use the 240's which have been wrecked by arrive and drive
Quote from Domin8r :Whoa i guess its not the same becky

I raced karts for about 5 years, then college came along with rent, more work and thus less time.

I loved it though, I raced three years of nationals Stars of Karting:East and the Manufacturer's Cup. I started with 3-Hole/4-Hole can Yamaha KT-100's then did, Formula Y Jr. and Sr., then ICA and the last two years I drove a Biesse/Pavesi ICC kart.

Karting is great fun, but sadly very misunderstood in the general public's eyes (atleast in the US).

I'm just waiting for karting in LFS
same here, but i also want classes then: like shifter(RM1) 125cc automatic (rotax max) etc
kool i race ica do you know someone called conor daily hes american
Yes, thats Derek Daily's son. Derek drove a shifter kart a year or two ago at Newcastle Motorsports Park while a few of us guys that were running the next weeks Stars National race were testing. He was doing an article about the difference between karting and F1. The funny thing was he said the kart was easier to drive when he was using paddle shifters and was consistently about 10 seconds off the pace all day hehe.
I'm in Junior max atm, moving to seniors next year though. Does anyone else think the new cost-cutting engines for FA are stupid? It's the top level of karting, it's meant to be expensive. Same with F1, the teams can afford it so why not let them spend as much as they want?

EDIT: Racing at Wombwell this weekend for the Cock of the North meeting. If anyone's going then I'm number 74 on a CRG, come find me in the paddock.
Im a kart racer

Anyone know a good karting place in/near Essex, UK?
Rye House in East Herts, although I wouldn't call it good. I can't think of any MSA tracks actually in Essex though, but Rye is pretty close as it's in Hoddesdon. If you're nearer London then head that way I guess, Essex is quite a big place so if you're too the North you've got Red Lodge and Wild Tracks, or a hop over the river into Kent which would be a bit of a drive but then there's two excellent tracks: Buckmore Park and Lydd, although if you're going that far you could go all the way to Milton Keynes and race the Daytona track there, or head to Peterborough to PF International.
