The online racing simulator
i want to modify my cars darnit
i want to be able to change boost and displacement and all other kinds of stuff. I'm not sure if there is anything out there but if so let me know
not for LFS there isn't.
Its a racing game, why not just race?
sure u can...get lfstweak or mecanik and u can do all this stuff
but these apps arent available for the current patch u will have to use patch P0.5 or Q ( depends on which u want to use).

Car modification has been mentioned here for maybe as log as this forum existed. I'm not really against it, since when implementd well it simply offers another range of options for setting up the car. For instance, a big and laggy high pressure turbo is great for circuits that need high end power (e.g. Ashton GP) but useless for a circuit like South City, where mid range power is more essential for exiting its relatively slow corners.

However, for the time being, we just have to wait until all the major physics problems solved/minimized before we can reasonably think about such things. For instance, what's the point of changable wings when aero isn't close to finalization?
You can tune your engine here!

So anyway. What's the point of allowing engine tuning when everyone will end up using the single same setting that's most efficient. Not a bright improvement idea from my perspective as it brings no extra excitement to racing.

320hp TBOs aren't exciting enough?

320hp RB4 + rallycross + more suspension travel + dual-rate springs = BLISS
Quote from Jamexing :320hp TBOs aren't exciting enough?

No, not really as the TBO class is messed up already. What the TBO class needs is strongly limited setup options instead of silly engine tuning and more power.

We already have a GTR class and it's messed up balance-wise too.

Quote :320hp RB4 + rallycross + more suspension travel + dual-rate springs = BLISS

Play RBR if you want quality rally with fast 4WD cars.
Rally is completely differnt to rally cross and even though I have RBR, who says I don't want to do RallyCROSS with other people online? The 2 are totally differnt sports and require differnt skills and means of winning.
Bottomline for me is, "will it improve the racing?".

In this instance, no, if you are able to modify the engine, then so is everyone else, ergo, everyone will have the same car (again) and the advantage of modifying your car is negated, because everyone else has the same options.

Dan,

True to quite an extent, though with more power and grip (aka higher speeds), things tend to get more "interesting" (aka unforgiving).

There is the possibility of separate power and chassis classes. For instance, 280hp class, 300hp class. Or we can use it as a balancing tool. For instance, the XR GTT vs FXO race could be run with 10 extra hp for the XR GTT to even things up a bit. All this, of course, requires servers to possess the option to specify power limits for specific cars. In essence, this is sort of like a ballast sytem in reverse, speeding the unfairly slow cars up instead of slowing the fast cars down. Imagine a souped up XR GTT vs RA race.

Anyway, it's actually a bit too early to worry about these things now, but engine modification could open up both a whole new can of worms AND a new world of possibilities
So would buying a wheel mate
Can you honestly tell me:
Why...

would...

we...

need...

car classes...

and class options...

when many of the current cars in S2 are rarely used online? 'Options this options that' sound good on paper, but sometimes they just backfire.

No we don't need NOS or backfire options either.
Would engine tuning really be worth the immensive work it would take from the devs? Would it really make racing better? An honest question.
Quote from Hyperactive :Would engine tuning really be worth the immensive work it would take from the devs? Would it really make racing better? An honest question.

Well, until the physics are practically complete and we could actually start modding the cars to experiment without the trouble of physics changes, we just honestly can't know for sure.

Some cars aren't raced too often for all kinds of reasons. Some many think particular cars are too hard to race well. Some cars aren't use because some think they're too painfully slow to be exciting. GTRs are so popular simply because they're fast enough to be exciing yet still not being too hard to drive. The BF1 is a great drive, but it's more suited to the Micheal Schumachers among LFS racers. That is ,if we're going to have a race that even remotely resembles a real Grand Prix. In the end, there are all sorts of reasons why some cars and tracks are so popular yet others are neglacted.
ok..
First will it change racing, Your damn right it will. How you may ask, well for an exapmle. why waste time with others set when you have the power to do it yourself, or maybe i'd like to lower the boost because the cars produceing to much for what i need it for, and traction is a main problem i'd not like to be in boost the second i give it gas, thats like telling the world of drifting and all other motor sports you can not in any way are you permitted to mod your car, got to keep it bone stock, it's not racing, i want to be incharge of whats going on with the motor and tuneing the car such as ecu maping adjust the fuel and air flow, or change rev limiter... in the end it all reflects on racing greastest, do you think the drift king i cant remember his name off hand would have got to where he is today off of bone stock cars? No thats racing period, i dont want to be limited to power such as the xrt-turbo, i'll think harder for you guys why this should be an aspect towards the game and why it would improve racing. sorry if it's so sloppy and dosent make sense. but i will have a review on this later.
Quote from TypeRCivic :..

But it is different in a computer game. In real life everyone has a differently tuned car because a) they don't know about how other peoples cars are tuned b) other reasons like money, time, manpower...
In a game everyone has the same car and all setups will ultimately be just like everyone elses. There is no reason not to setup the car to best suit the current track combination, there is no reason to take inferior setup if you can make it perfect. Same thing is offcourse with the current setups where you cannot change the engine. But it wouldn't have a big difference on racing if you could tune the engine. It would only be more difficult for people who don't understand how to tune the engine. Also it would make balancing the cars even harder than it is now.
Put simply I want LFS to stay mod free, sensible relatively low power cars that I can race with online. Big powerful mods should be left to other sims such as rFactor.
I want the "search" button to strobe so you can't miss it.
I also want the Improvement Suggestions Log thread to be massive, unavoidable and in big fat red letters.

Ooh and maybe there should be a little Java window that pops up (like when you enter the Test Patch sub-forum) which says something like: "Please use the search function or browse the Suggestions Log before posting a new suggestion - this sim is four years old and if you've thought of something, chances are someone else did already. At least twice."

This man speaks the truth!!
I agree entirely with what geeman1 said. Motor City Online was plagued by that kind of thing, and the only way to be competitive was to use the same upgrades as everyone else did.

So in the end everyone ends up with the same car. Which is what we already have in LFS, so what's the point?

I really, really wish this thread would just magicaly dissapear, and go away

In addition, I don't want to be a mechanic to make my setups myself... :thumbsdow

Don't you people know what the search button is or do i need to explaine how the button works or something.

1. Click on Search Button
2. Fill in what you want to search for on the forum
3. And finnaly Click on "Go"

And you will see the search results.

This has been answerd for about +-100-500 times now , AND you COULD know if you used the search button.

Someone close this thread or something....
