Trackday @ Snetterton
Doing my first bike trackday @ Snetterton on Saturday, I am praying for dry weather .

It's free to get in and spectate, so if anyones in the area and fancy's a look, you're welcome

Dan,
#2 - CSU1
How many vid-recorders can you fit on yer bike?
I tried that on my Ninja, regular journey from work, didn't realise how fast, how much I lean, or how quickly I overtake until I watched it back!!!

Will try and find it, nice bit where I overtake a bus with one comming the other way, thought there was more room than there actually was!!!

Dan,

GL have fun, don't try too hard

You made any changes to the bike? Using the stock tyres?

ps: Got myself a bike coming too now. Been searching for a while. I take delivery next week

edit: PPS Am I right in thinking that you must have a helmet with a twin D ring strap for track days?

Stock, I have been told to leave it as it would be easier for me to "dial" the bike in with settings I am used to riding with, they have people there on the day, so hopefully I will be able to get my suspension setup properly by the end of the day

A few I reckon, fancy lending me one?

Never ridden my bike on the track before, should be an experiance

Dan,
Never heard anything rules except it must be a british standard safety helmet, only thing I know is you must wear racing leathers (With most circuits now only allowing 1 piece suits to be worn!

Sweet bike sinbad, that the actual bike?, nice colour, is it a new one?, good choice with the SV, although I might have been tempted to get the 1000cc version, I reckon you'll tire of the 650cc in no time.

As for trackday "rules", as far as I am aware, you MUST have a leather racesuit, or two-piece full length zipped together leathers, and an ACU (gold sticker) approved helmet, no rules on twin D-rings though as far as I am aware.

Dan,
I don't think I'm doing anything on Saturday, so I might have a little ride out on my bike to come and see you. Getting there early? Spending all day there?

Sign in is between 7.30-8.30am, first session is 9.00am , last session is 17.00pm, unless they cut it as soon as the light goes.

I will be there all day

Dan,

Insurance would have prohibited a 1000 anyway. It's not a new one, but it looks it and has done very few miles. It was also the right price

I asked about the helmet because I thought my CBT instructor might have mentioned something along those lines. Maybe he was on about actual competition racing. He said the seat-belt style ones are not perfect because the release button can potentially get caught on things. How much truth there is in that I don't know.
Fair enough, the 1000 wouldnt be TOOO much, its still only a group 14, my Aprilia is 15 and it costs just under £600 fully comp.

Your instructor is right, the D-ring ones are better

Dan,
What an awesome day I had on Saturday, was pretty cold, I didnt feel it, I wore 2 sets of thermals under my leathers!!!.

First session was still a bit wet from the night before, I had a pretty scary moment on a white line going into riches, which made me tense up for all whole first session, luckly it was a sighting session with no overtaking, but after that first session I didnt think I was going to enjoy it.

I decided after the first session that if I was going to enjoy the event, it would be prudent to get my suspension setup properly, I got 100% suspesion to set my Falco up, and it made a BIG difference.

Second session was the first overtaking session, I got into my stride, and was reasonably quick, but I was still concerned as to how far I could actually push myself and my bike, plus with the new suspension settings I was getting a very light back end, and some rear wheel lockup.

Back to 100% suspension, and some more tweaks, third session I decided that I might aswell get some tuition, well, thats what they are there for, 4 laps following the instructor, showing me lines, braking points, and how far I could push, I was now feel actually how far I could push both the bike and myself, then 4 laps with the insturctor following me, after the session he basically said I was doing fine, I could go a bit quicker here and there, and that I shouldnt lean the bike any further as my exhausts were nearly down, but to move off the bike more.

Forth session, and it clicked, I was riding harder and faster than I have ever ridden on the road, I was amazed at how far I could push the bike and myself, and by the end of the session I was hanging off that bike like a flaming monkey, and, without even trying, managed to grind my knee not only round the slow sears corner, but also at nearly 70mph through the bombhole too!!!!!.

After that it was just fun, fun, fun all the way, getting faster and faster, more confident and cleaner, and basically owning all but the very quick bikes in the novice class.

I was AMAZED at how well the Falco rode on the track, for such a big bike it was a complete joy, it was fast, handled well, all in all a top bike on the track, I raced a few bikes, a ZX6R, beat it easy, an R1, it had me on the straights but I was passing him in corners, on the outside, with my knee dragging the tarmac!!!.

Top notch day all round, well worth doing, I would say that its something everybody should do at least once.

Here are a few piccies , thanks to Tristan for coming down, nice to see you!!

Dan,
Nice one Dan, looked great fun and well done.

It is something we should all do but maybe don't have the funding, fancy lending me your bike then?
TBH, nothing I have done in life has given me the same thrill of riding down revitt straight at 141mph and doing 1 min 30 seconds laps at snetterton, BTCC drivers "only" do 1:12-1:17 laps, and I was on a road bike on road tyres on one of the UK fastest curciuts.

Biggest legal high you can get, I was buzzing all day.

Dan,
Looks like a laugh and a half

From what I hear the Snett will be having a bit of an overhaul, so it would be able to hold A1GP, CCWS, IRL and - theoretically - GP2.

EDIT : Just clocked the taped over front headlamp
Looks like a lot of fun Dan.

Nice pics
Nice going Dan, looks sooo much fun, how did the tyres cope?
Quote from sinbad :Nice going Dan, looks sooo much fun, how did the tyres cope?

Tyres were fine, I ran road pressures, 35psi front and rear, at the end of each session they were warm and just "peeling", I reckon due to the temperature of the day I could have easily knocked 3-4 psi off without them over heating, 2+ hours of track time didnt even wear them once, wish I could say that about my blue brake disks .

I would whole-heartedly recommend it, even if you are a novice, you can ride at your own pace, and it gives you such a confidence boost knowing exactly how far you can push yourself and your bike in a safe(r) environment.

Dan,
Looked like an awesome day Dan. Sorry I missed it.
Thought I'd revive this thread with a picture of my new pride and joy

Wow Dan, that sounds exciting. Wish I had the balls (and the money) to get a sport bike and hit up some track days.

I don't think I'd ride on the streets though. Too many idiots, especially in this area of Ontario. It's amazing the stupid things I see motorists do...
Jees looked like awesome fun.

When i get to the UK im really getting into track days, cars or bikes...will research when i get there because either look like super fun!

Tasty bike mate, how are you finding it?

Dan,

Bit scary, realising just how little riding experience I actually have, and I don't have any real idea of the grip levels yet. I'm being EXTRA cautious (riding like a total noob)
As long as I keep it shiny side up, I'm happy.

My all time favourite bike and hopefully my next bike after I've payed of my RV 125.
