i only use LIMEWIRE for my own good ! never sold a cd before !but i thought you were alowed use limewire for your own use well i thought wrong
weather you use it for your own good or to make money i doesn't really make a difference.
i see no problem in using it, i would use it except for all the cr@p that generally comes with P2P programs and how much they hog ur CPU!
ive downloaded about 10 songs together in like 3 years the problem wit limewire is also peoplae adding viruses and stuff
Quote from jamesrowe :Limewire is a sharing program, to download music from it you are sharing from someone else. Sharing could be giving it as a gift, that music was paid for at one stage! Using limewire and other P2P sharing programs is not so bad.
If you go to a friend's house and you listen to music, watch a movie or play a game, then you are not breaking the law. If you had to pay to listen/watch/play to that friend's music/movie/game then it would be breaking many laws....
So if you dont pay for the music/movie/game off limewire then it could be said you are getting it from a friend in an environment like a house! Your not paying for it, so is it bad. Certainly sounds legal!... DON'T bite my head off if some of you dont like that idea!

I personnaly have used limewire and other P2p so...

But you can't use small-scale as a justification for it, not that is particularly small scale.
Scale it up massively- let's say one person enters HMV, buys 100 albums and shares them with everybody in the world, nobody else needs to buy the albums, still nothing wrong? Why is it less wrong when it's one album and 1000 people?

Sorry, there's no moral justification for it and you should thank the people that still buy albums. Funny how we can easily kid ourselves though, when it suits us.
Look at any CD. Or tape. Or DVD.

It says (paraphrasing here) any unauthorised copying and distribution is prohibited.

Converting a track from CD or tape to a software format is copying.
Giving people access to it is distribution.

So unless all the PRS (Performing Rights Society - the governing body which makes sure artists get paid for the performance of their songs) has struck some kind of deal with Limewire (which I really doubt since it would have been a huge announcement), you are breaking the law. Just because it's modern media doesn't mean the old copyright laws don't apply.
The only difference is that these days it's much easier to mass trade MP3s than it ever was to sell duped albums at market stalls.

It's always happened and it always will. But you should not be asking in a public forum for anything illegal, irrelevant of what the product actually is.
I BET almost everyone here has downloaded a track or something (software) whatever when it has suited them. They cant find it, so they download it.... then it suits them for that one time! im not saying i do it that much! i have not had a p2p program for almost a year now!
Downloading music from any unregistered source (IE. not the band's own website, or an OFFICIAL myspace page, etc) is illegal, no matter what program you use.

Luckily, it seems that 99% of all legal acion taken is in the U.S. so those of us in other countries are relatively safe :P

Anyways... good music? Check out some stuff by Cradle Of Filth, 3 Inches of Blood, In Flames, Killswitch Engage... that's all my tired brain can think of right now. Good stuff

Anything from Mozart, some from Schumann, Tchaikovsky etc. Why everyone is always running away when I start talk about my favourite music?

I also do like scene music and some chip music too.

However I don't really remember songnames and there is not many artist/bands that I remember either, for me it is always what sounds good, who made it has no meaning really.
Quote from Hankstar :Click "my band" in my sig

I just had a rush of nostalgia and grabbed Deliverance, an old Corrosion of Conformity album from about 1994 (my old band used to cover their material). There are some killer tracks on that album, especially Broken Man and Senor Limpio. These guys were out-Sabbathing Sabbath while Wolfmother were still doing up their school ties

Ja, Ich liebe Rammstein! Please correct mein Deutsche if it's kaput

Du. Du hast. Du hast mich!

First part is almost correct, you just don't capitalize "ich" in german
Second part made me laugh - "Bitte korrigier my germans wenn es brokn ist" ("translation")... I think it should have been "Bitte korrigiert mein Deutsch, wenn es schlecht/falsch ist"
Rammstein is nice too

@limewire/etc...: If I like the band, I'll buy the CD, just like I did with LFS. I support things I like.
Quote from danowat :Is it really good to have a thread asking people what music is good to steal?

Read the theft act

Pirate music is copyright infringement - but NOT theft under UK law. Also, in the UK, all pirate music cases are civil, not criminal.

disclaimer - I am not a lawyer, but this is to the best of my knowledge the case

Quote from thisnameistaken :I've stopped buying CDs because I'm sick of the behaviour of the record companies. Apparently they're all going to go tits up sooner or later, so I think I'll wait.

I don't buy CDs in the store, I buy them from their merchandise-guys/girls from their gigs
I'm a big fan of the New York No-Wave scene of the late 70's, early 80's. There were some incredibly intense, noisy, and just plain deranged/scary bands operating within this scene for a few years as a kind of rejection of punk, they basically thought punk was bland... - 'just sped up Chuck Berry riffs'. DNA, Theoretical Girls, Teenage Jesus and the Jerks, Mars, The Contortions, Y Pants, ... Probably the most interesting figure here is a guy called Glenn Branca who's devoted his life to exploring the further limits of electric guitar music. His works are typically very loud, very noisy, but also very structured, expansive and extremely, intensely beautiful. He can make guitars sound like choirs, he's even made his own experimental keyboard/guitars which tune to the first 127 intervals of the harmonic series. illepall Truly some kind of hyper nut! If you're looking for something a bit out there and haven't heard of no-wave before, then check it yo! There's no sad commercialism here, no bitter pepsi aftertaste.. just

Contort yourself!!

PS, some kind soul's made a rough mix of different songs from some of these (mostly now forgotten ) bands- what an amazing, albeit short lived era...

Hmm I don't know about naming just songs but I can name you some of the best band's you will hear!!!

Cradle Of Filth
My Dying Bride
Draconian
Metallica
Deathstars
Depeche Mode
Machine Head
Seraphim Shock
Moonspell
Switchblade Symphony

Now take my word for this that after listening to songs from these bands you will never turn your back on Metal!!

:rock_band
As amazing a band as Cradle of Filth is, I think they're a little too.. uh... 'edgy' for someone who doesn't like metal. They are, imho, the best band on the planet, though.

If anyone here is into power metal (things like Iced Earth and Judas Priest) and looking to venture into heavier stuff, tha band '3 inches of blood' is perfect for you. Their second album, Advance and Vanquish, is outstanding!!
Kev's raised a good point - their doom may not be imminent but record companies will one day face quite stiff competition from, well, anyone! Digital home recording software/hardware has become so very popular that it's hardly even necessary to pay for studio time to record an EP or demo or even full length album anymore. Two bands I was in recorded EPs in 2000/2001, just in our guitarists' basements, using stuff we borrowed as well as some pro software and a HDD mixer. We released them indepenently and the costs were all covered by the band members. We didn't make any profits from the sales but the point is we got 12-ish songs out to the public without giving any cash to some fcuk in a suit and the end product, while not sounding like Radiohead, was of a very high quality. Both EPs debuted at No.1 on the local charts (not as cool as it sounds, Adelaide's a small town - but we beat our "enemies", so it was satisfying, muahaha). I won't say it was cheap, but the money we spent on it wouldn't buy the left tyre on Donald Trump's limousine.

This was a few years ago now, and home recording is a rapidly evolving industry. You can now fit all you need in a suitcase: laptop, good software, a couple of mikes and a pre-amp or two (my other guitarist is doing exactly that when he comes here from London next year to finish our old project). Thanks to new hardware/software & the web it's possible to write & record a high-quality album and get it out there & sold as soon as it's done, without involving middle men or any of the industry bastards. It's possible to start your own label in your basement! As the home industry picks up and gear gets cheaper and easier to use, record companies are going to have to adjust how they operate (some already are) out of necessity. The options available to musicians who want to release their material are ten times that of a decade ago, and a hundred times that of 20 years ago. Big record companies may not go tits up just yet, but they will have to face the fact that they're not going to have the total control over the industry that they've enjoyed since they came into being decades ago.

FYI, some links to my band's stuff. All home-made (except FTA).
Roger the Band (characters by me ) I'll upload the tunes somewhere. Or you can buy a CD lol
Mothdust mp3s 1 2 3 4
ekranoplan (me and my PC )
From The Ashes (recorded professionally but cheaply ) Download yer ass off!

[/shamless frickin plug!]

Back to the topic I guess *sigh*
If you like the hard stuff - Fear Factory's second and third albums - Demanufacture and Obsolete - are absolutely kickarse
I'll always plug The Mars Volta too - mad as hell progressive guitar madness, 16 minute songs, vocals by someone who can only be described as an alien (this band is the brainchild of Cedric (vocals) & Omar (guitars) from At The Drive-In). They're touring Oz in March, got my ticket!
Metallica: get their first five albums (up to the Black album). Those records contain their best stuff ever, hands down. I saw them in 1993, at the height of their awesomeness - thankfully before "Load" came out so I didn't have to hear that crap
Quote from thisnameistaken :I've stopped buying CDs because I'm sick of the behaviour of the record companies. Apparently they're all going to go tits up sooner or later, so I think I'll wait.

I have made a similar decision. I don't buy any CDs that have copy protection. Simple because the copy protection makes it hard or impossible to make MP3s out of the music. I don't even have a standalone cd-player anymore. Luckily there are smaller record companies who don't put that shit on their CDs so I can still buy stuff. I have at least few gigabytes of music on my hd and maybe 5% is stolen.
I remember the first time I heard Machine Head. I was at my mates place, at the time we were in some kind of 'band', and we were on.. ahem.. drugs, and he put MH on his uber stereo, and I just sat there and let the guitars wash over me, and it was pretty good...

any good songs
