The online racing simulator
How many drivers got Live for Speed ?
Hello I was wondering how many people drive this Sim?

I see there are sometimes up to 950 People Online Racing at the same time. I think that might be very much compared to other Sims?

How many people are licensed drivers? (S1 or S2)

Is a figure publicly known? If not, what would be an estimate?

Greetings
the amount used to be available to the public but is not anymore. Id estimate 20,000 plus but i bet its more than that..
IIRC, the last time Scawen said it's between 20000 and 30000 licenses, though no exact numbers.

The following stats are taken from LFS World's Racers Database: 20.8% German - 14158 racers, 15.1% UK - 9221 racers. If you calculate the total users from each of the above stats you get 68067 and 61066 respectively. Due to the low precision of the percentage of racers per country it's difficult to get an accurate number, but something around 60,000 to 70,000 licensed racers seems about there.

Oh okay. Must've remembered an older quote then

Sorry, but that's completely off. How did you get these numbers?
E: Looks like you performed a search with just the country as filter. Hmm.
: Ok, I found out what's going on. The LFS racers database also includes accounts that were created on the LFS website and maybe even demo players, not just licensed racers.
Wow, 20000. I was thinking there are cca 5000 licenced, becouse that much racers have times in nutter ranking, but most peple dont drive hot lapps

Man developers are rich!

not really...

when you muliply the number of S2 licences by £24 then divide that between the 3 developers and then divide it again by 6 (for the number of years they have been making the game) you get a pretty average wage.
they should be rich, and deserve to be but they aren't yet
Interesting, thanks

Whell Nikimere I can't agree whit you. I calculate and here is resoult. 3000 UK Pounts every month for every developer last 6 years they got. And if that isn't a hell a lot of money then what it is. I think mayor of Brcko has paychek like that

£3000 a month gives £36,000 a year, but i think you must remember that the average wage in the UK is £21,000, and that a game developer (such as Scawen) would earn more, and has a family to support
Don't forget all the taxes they have to pay.

well....

(25,000 x £24)/3 = £200,000 (TOTAL per dev approx.)

£200,000 / 6 = £33,333'ish (per year)

minus all the tax, company fee's and stuff. They prob come out with about £28,000 per annum

Not exactly rich.

dont forget the cost of the websites, and the time Scawen pours in as a pose to a "9 to 5" job
Also Niki, don't calculate that in KN and see how you could live with that money here. It's whole different story over there
Quote from BlackEye :Also Niki, don't calculate that in KN

what?

2 of the Developers live in the UK and 1 in The Netherlands. Both are VERY expensive countries to live in. The cost of living is very high, so a salary of £28,000 a year most certainly does not make you even remotely "rich".
Hope this answers your post...
Ok, ok

That is lot of money in this part of world

See I have new SIGNATURE :
By now at least Scawen has read this and I bet he's laughing at us. I would feel like a superstar if people tried to guess how "rich" i was at the moment :-)

Dear devs,

indeed you're something like popstars... 3 gents who gathered at least 60000 people around them, begging for the next album (patch)!

cheers,

fanboy butz
And they even write their songs by themselves.
You're way out on taxes and running costs, Scawen has said that eats about 50% of their income.

So if we must guess money, at least do it properly:
Estimated 35,000 licenses (S1 + S2)
Last we knew, about 10,000 were still S1
So that's £120,000 + £600,000 = £720,000 income
-50% for taxes and running costs
We're left with £360,000, or £120,000 each
Divide that by five, since IIRC they quit their jobs to work full time on this in either late 2001 or early 2002.

That's £24,000pa each, averaged from the start of development (and there was over a year without ANY money) so these guys have debts to pay off, not to mention two of them live in London where £24k is peanuts. Especially considering we know at least Scawen works long hours.

So the good times aren't really rolling yet.
Quote from Bob Smith :You're way out on taxes and running costs

i wouldn't exactly say i was way out, i took a complete approximation and dont have a clue how your tax system works and also didn't know about the 50% thing Scawen said.
weather is £24k or £28k my point is still valid, they're not rich.

I think it wouldn't be too hard for them to get us to pay them more money though, the last time many of us payed them anything would have around June 2005 and if S3 is going to be the next time then that could be years from now.

After S2 is finished something like the rally add-on pack would be perfect for them to increase income before S3. The only problem I see is that many of the planned S3 physics updates would be quite important for rallying (weather, dynamic track properties etc.). But maybe there are other upgrades they could release. Personally I would love real tracks but I'm not sure if there are any that offer liscenses at sensible terms, both in terms of price and in terms of what they actually offer.
This thread is about total number of S2 licensed players?

or how much the developers earned?
I'd really rather not be speculating on how much the devs earn. Is it really anyone's business but theirs?

Bob the Mod, you oughta know better than to encourage and participate in such pointless activities
