How advertising affects you?

1) Have you ever bought a product on the strength of an advert alone and why?

No - you can't trust advertisers any more than you can trust political PR people (who are often one and the same anyway).

I've had lots of things brought to my attention by advertising though. When that happens I try and find out if it's worth buying.

2) Have you ever bought a product because it had an aspirational advert that appealed to you and what was it? (eg Lynx ads show the product making someone a hit with the ladies)

See above - too cynical Bah, Lynx. I use Chanel or nothing!

3) Do the production values of adverts affect your view of the product? (eg Marks & Spencers vs Iceland)

I have no clue about the examples you cite, but I get what you mean. Sometimes the cheap crappy ads are more effective as they crack me up and make me pay more attention. Obviously Coke ads are ridiculously expensive (and they look it) but I just sort of go "ho-hum, another multi-billion dollar Coke campaign" and I might drink one Coke a week (coffee's better and more effective). Coke's advertising budget has always make me wonder if it's really necessary - even if you don't read commercial publications or watch tv, you can't escape the shit! It's in most fast food places and every corner shop, cafe, cinema, food court, aircraft & cruise ship in the entire universe - it's frickin' Micro$oft-drink!

4) Skoda cars are made by VW yet more people buy the more expensive VWs over the cheaper Skodas because of Skoda's past image. Do you buy products based on brand name alone?

If I know the brand it's a lot more likely that I'll buy something, but I still like to be informed when I buy something. I won't just shell out for something without trying to find out if it's what I need first, whether it's a guitar, a game or a watermelon. Except on ebay - I'm an impulse buyer and I have the positive feedback to prove it
1-NO,why do i ?

2-NO,why do i?

3-NO,why does it?

4-NO,why do i?

This is an interesting point I've noticed- when people say 'soft drink', most people think Coke. It seems to be the default drink for everyone. I buy a 500ml bottle every day as it's the only thing in the shop I grab without thinking. Even though Pepsi is cheaper and occupies the same amount of space in the fridge, I'll automatically grab the Coke.
1) Have you ever bought a product on the strength of an advert alone and why?

Yes, there was not clearly another product visable in the shop which could help me what I needed, I saw just before a poster with an advert so I took that glue instead of another one.

2) Have you ever bought a product because it had an aspirational advert that appealed to you and what was it? (eg Lynx ads show the product making someone a hit with the ladies)

No.

3) Do the production values of adverts affect your view of the product? (eg Marks & Spencers vs Iceland)

No, of course if it promotes extreme right values or that kind of stuff it will.

4) Skoda cars are made by VW yet more people buy the more expensive VWs over the cheaper Skodas because of Skoda's past image. Do you buy products based on brand name alone?

Yes
However it has also to do with quality: often the more expensive products DO have the higher quality standard, specially with clothes... you easy spot the difference between H&M clothes and real Armani clothes.
But I don't buy a product because it's of thàt specific brand, but if I have to choise between known brand and unknown brand, I take the known one.

Hope these 3 mins of my time help you some
Good luck!
Thank you

in my local spar pepsi is one pence dearer than coke..

just a stat for you. lol
It may a penny cheaper but it's at least 10% less tasty
1. Yes, of course I have. I'll sometimes try a new drink purely because I've seen an advert for it and I like the look of it. Or a new food item. Maybe the odd cleaning product or two. Probably other things, but nothing expensive.

2. Not knowingly, but I'm aware of adverts for certain things that I do buy, so perhaps I'm influenced without realising it.

3. Yes! If something is advertised in a shoddy way, I'm naturally led to believe it's a shoddy product which isn't worth advertising properly.

4. No. But I'll be careful of things made by brands I don't know/trust and I will usually expect higher quality from well-known "leading brands".
A note on the Pepsi/Coke thing - I usually go for Pepsi cans but Coke bottles. Don't ask why, I'm not sure

1) Have you ever bought a product on the strength of an advert alone and why?

Kinda, I've gone to a shop and looked at the packaging then bought it.

2) Have you ever bought a product because it had an aspirational advert that appealed to you and what was it? (eg Lynx ads show the product making someone a hit with the ladies)

Not that I know of.

3) Do the production values of adverts affect your view of the product? (eg Marks & Spencers vs Iceland)

Yeah, I guess. If it's too over-the-top like M&S I won't buy it, if it's too cheap (Cillit Bang) then I won't either. It's gotta be in the middle somewhere.

4) Skoda cars are made by VW yet more people buy the more expensive VWs over the cheaper Skodas because of Skoda's past image. Do you buy products based on brand name alone?

Yes, I bet everyone has at least once.
