Whats the best wheel?

OK, everyone please stop telling him to get a G25 as he said he can't afford one yet

I can recommend the very affordable Logi Momo Racing (aka Momo Black). Two pedals, seq. shifter you can mount either side of the unit, pretty decent FFB, quite sturdy. There are six programmable buttons on the wheel (which you can turn into 12 by using one as a shift key) and it also has flappy paddles - these, however, are flimsy, as I found out one day while shifting down into Lesmo, playing GPL. I started using the shift immediately and haven't looked back Apart from that, it's been very sturdy (except for when I sat on it, broke the main clamp and had to bind it all back together with gaffer tape - still works perfectly). I do recommend the "squash ball" mod - you stick a squash ball under the brake pedal to give it a bit of resistance, otherwise it's very soft and springy like the accelerator and not great to drive with. I got this wheel in late '02 and haven't needed to replace it yet (although there was a de-contstruct/rebuild my mate did for me in mid '03, which turned out to be totally unnecessary ) - I'm still using my original squash ball too I'm getting a G25 as soon as I can ride my bike under a van and sue somebody.
I have heard

For drifting an DFP

For Racing a MOMO

For both an G25
Quote from JamesK :ok, without emptying the bank account to get a G25, whats the best of the rest?

I've got a Saitek XBox wheel thats good, but a native PC one would be better (especially with pedals!).

Get DFP no questions asked!! and make sure its rev B!!

In 2 years, when they refine the g25 and it becomes cheaper.. upgrade

Ditto...

I use a black MOMO also. If I win decent on a lottery ticket, I might Get the G-25.

THe black moimo is a great wheel I keep telling myself this every time I rebuild the pedals.
Uh, the wheel really is a very good wheel for the $$$, but the pedals can
be a bit "tempermental" and you might have to take the pedals apart.
LOL you WILL have to take the pedals apart.

From what i seen, the DFP is just a little bit more money than the black momo, but I hear the pedals are the same way, and I don't know how well the wheel works with other titles with that 900 degree thing.

But definately, if your shopping for a wheel, get one with FFB if you can
One nice thing about the DFP is that when it's set to 270 mode, it engages hard stops, so it doesn't use the FFB motor to create a "virtual" limit.

FWIW, my Rev. A pedals still work fine, but I don't drive as much as many people do.

I'm drifting, racing at all with logitech G25. Full 900º and shifter. Not the best, but yes, the most real is G25.
Quote from Infiniti :Also, I use the momo led mod for lfs and works like a charm, and is quite helpful.

Clue me in please, I have the same wheel and this sounds like something I'd want.

i never get those poxy symbols the right way round!
/me explodes

Thread moved to hardware forum.
Sorry Bob

Drift_0k - Yes, could take the steering wheel from one of my cars, but that would make driving them a tad tricky ...

I'm now curious about the Momo LED mod too, does it put a shift light on the wheel? (would help a lot when playing with the sound off)

Anywho, thanks for the tips Being a techie I'm happy to strip anything down and rebuild, Black Momo is in the lead at the minute!
Just one more question - where's the best place to buy wheels in the UK? (!)
Get the DFP.
Owned both the black momo, and now the DFP. Had a neighbour who races IRL test both. His verdict: DFP.
Wanted to sell the MOMO,but broke it(got too used to DFP,and turned the wheel too much )

it means i've sent it back after it broke, but i was directing him to the "Which wheel to buy guide" in my sig
I've recently upgraded from a DFP to a G25. I really cannot stress enough how much of an improvement it is. After racing with the G25, the DFP seems very slow and small. More of a "toy". The G25, is brilliant. The shifter is a tiny bit plastic looking. But, it works very well. The pedals are sublime, If you can, get a G25. Don't even bat an eyelid at the DFP. Although, if you really want one I'd sell you my old DFP
i upgraded from my 7 year old Formula GP without FFB to a DFP. Bought it new for 54€ + 8€ shipping. Best investment ever ^^ The G25 would have been great, but 220€ is way too much for me.

I think for the feel the G25 would be the best, but if you want to drive fast lap times with a precise wheel and don't want to spend much money, get a DFP.

i've jut bought a momo as they ran out of DFP in stocks... ...

just an update for you guys, it is REV.C0 ... must be a new series out ... in case you are interested in...

thanx for all help in here,
The DFP wheel itself is decent, not had any problems with it and have enjoyed it a lot. For pedals I picked up a couple of sets of microsoft pedals from ebay and rewired them to work with the DFP. I can't find the link now, but there are instructions online for matching up the wires etc. They are quite a bit sturdier than the DFP pedals, have better range of motion, and most importantly don't have the reliability issues of the DFP pedals. I think the current set of microsoft pedals I'm using are originally from the wheel set my dad bought 5 years ago.

I haven't used a G25 so I don't know what I'm missing, which is a good thing. Once my DFP gives me problems I'm sure I'll check prices on the G25 again.

And whats it like, in terms of sturdiness etc?

With real life stuff going on I've decided to put off buying a wheel 'till Autumn
