Tension Between Demo and S2

Seems to me the tension boils down to more or less what you find at the seaside. On the one hand, you have a bunch of people surfing the waves, or paddling dinghies, or paddling/swimming about, all shouting about how nice the water is, to the people on the beach who are either sitting around drinking beer, playing volleyball, pumping iron, waving off wasps, or standing at the water's edge, deciding which wave they're gonna jump in on.. as long as there aren't sharks.. IF they're gonna jump at all..

There are those that are happy on the beach, catching some sun, and there are those who are only happy when they're catching a good 15' wave. If there IS any tension, it's that they almost all head to the seaside for different reasons. As long as they're happy.. what does it matter to anyone else?
Why dont the devs allow full S2 for 48 hours.

When installed, it will install a hidden file / registtry edit to stop people re-downloading. This way , people can try out all tracks and cars, take part in some of the races and such.

After 48 from instalation, it is reverted back to demo. 48 hours is plenty of time for people to try out S2, even if they have school/work.

I personally dont support this, as it is probbly easy to bypass the thingy that stops you getting another free trial, but with demo racers saying they want to try out extra thingys, they can have a time restriction.

That would be a silly thing IMHO.

Just think. All the other stuff you buy in real life, do they let you test them fully before you buy it?

Do you take a 6 month testdrive with a potential new car? Do you wear a new shirt for weeks before going back to the store and paying it?

Just look at a game demo as a TV commercial or an ad.
It's still just a teaser to get you to buy the product.
And as I said before, a very generous one in this case, one that is a game on it's own, not just a tiny bit of it as so often is the case.

If everyone would have the chance to make up their minds 100% before buying something. (anything) Then the economy goes down the drain.
It just does not work like that. When you buy a product, there is always a sort of "gamble" involved.

It would also mean another way of cracking the game, so yeah you are right, not something I would support either.

I'm With SamH, if people are happy with something, then

for all I care people play the demo for the next 20 years, fine by me, enjoy! But they should realise they have a free game and not come here and demand things or make so called "content suggestions" with a lame excuse about "it will improve sales if they do"

my 2 cents...
Quote from Foropsico :I am very surpriced to see the closed mind of many peolple here. You have 21 years, you are not a children, and you live in a first world country. How could you be so prejudiced?
No, i have my driving licence for 11 years. And i have been racing formula renault cars too (similar to FOX). Maybe the problem is that the majority of this comunity have been never racing a real race car, so they just suspect LFS have a perfect physics. I have been testing S2 cars in a friend house, and the physics of the demo cars is excelent. This is primary the reason for what the mayority think LFS physics is so perfect, they just know the behaviour of street cars. But the physics of the BF1 is worst than F1 chanlenge, or rfactor. It was discused before, you cannot make a physics engine which consider all the variables that exists in reality, so the physics engine is not universal, posibly is very close to this, but it isnt.

It's mostly those kids you hear about "add xy to the demo!!!!1111oneoneeleven", because they don't know any better and have no manners... If you're not, don't act like a 12 year old spoilt brat... Were you asking "Hmm, that car is fine, but can I drive the F3-car too?", when you first got into that Renault? Are you asking your host to f*ck his wife after you've eaten his dinner? No? Why do this here then?

And don't act as if you were from a third world country and had no money... You raced in real life ffs, those 36 euros are peanuts in comparison! Stop moaning already, nothing in life is free...

@Sam: Wrong analogy, would fit in those "Drift vs. Race!!!!111oneoneeleven"-Threads though...

lmfao !

Does R factor, Netkar, Need for speed, Gtr 2, and so on, do that !?
If you can`t tell the difference allready in the demo, then you never ever will know what you are getting, with a S2 license, anyway !

The three cars and Blackwood is more than enough

I still prefer the ice skating vs speed skating analogy for drift vs race. Depending on my mood, I like the synchronized swimming vs the crawl analogy, too.. although sometimes the drift gang get a bit sensitive and figure I'm being mean, instead of poking a bit of fun

11 is snot running from a kids nose, in my country. Adult movies has an other explanation

I don`t know what 11eleven is - Could somebody pls explain !??
One of the Biggest Tensions, is this thread.

Quote from 69LoveForSpeed69 :Some S2 user should do a social experiment. They should post an online screenshot of S2, logged on as a demo user. Then, I bet other S2 racers would accuse them of being a hacker/cracker. That would be funny how many people say mean things, wouldn't it?

Not sure what you mean,

you mean, log onto an S2 server pretending to be a demo user?

AFAIK you cannot actually see ingame that someone is a demo user or an S2 licensed racer.

And if there was a way to play on an S2 server with a demo racer status then the hacker/cracker insults would be justified as that would mean you hacked/cracked it....

or am I not getting your point?
About demo lifers, hope is not lost, my S2 peers.

About 4 months ago I was on a server and a new guest was joining. Wow, if it wasn't a guy that I use to race on the demo way back with the actual first S2 demo release! (April-June 2005). He was freshly licensed of about a week. I remembered having great races with him back then as well as my few month stint in the demo servers around the end of 2005.

Just about 2 weeks ago, I join a server and low and behold, there is another freshly licensed racer that I had fantastic races with during that same few month demo stint the end of 05.

Another guy I remember from before S2, when I was a true demo racer in S1 (Feb 2005-S2 release). It wasn't long ago that I saw him join S2 after a year or so of demo racing.

It may take some longer than others, but the true racers will eventually come to the licensed side. The true racers are also not the ones who come here whining and complaining about how they are bored with the free demo and want more or different content. IMO, those who are coming here saying the demo needs more/different content are the ones I really don't care to get licensed and race on the servers that I race on.
Keep going
No really . Keep going.
No-one ever accused me of being a cracker when I was a demoer. Maybe it was because I didn't post screenies of S2 content? But my alter-ego does!
That's right hummer, they said far worse things about you than that
I Give
I give, you're right. We hate less than s2,...so Screw you.

Hankstar, did we ever?!

On the topic of Demo users posting S2 content, I make no apology if I react with deep suspicion. Demo users should not have access to S2 content, so I'll ask how they come to have it. If they explain it was at their S2-licenced friend's house, I'll ask who that is. I generally don't let up. S2 content is for S2 licenced racers, not demo. If someone has obtained S2 content by any other means than a legitimate route, they have no place on these forums. Moreover, I'll actively chase them off, because I find that kind of in-your-face. A thief who is stealing the goods and hanging around their victim's house, being all sociable etc, I find grossly offensive. I don't think I'm wrong to feel that way. As Bob et al say, PM one of us or just report the post. If it turns out they're legit (Ian, J.B. etc), it's no sweat. We're happy to keep checking the hinges and locks. We don't want the thieves in here.
but why would the possibly WANT to use a demo account, as being a S2 user knowing you face problems such as posted above. Besides its like having a Ferrari and sticking a Renault badge on it ...

I did, see the 'total konfuzion' posts in this thread.. I got exactly the response I expected and wanted, someone even admitted they nearly reported me as a cracker regardless of the 4 licenses I've bought.

It was a good experiment and proved that too many S2 users take the license status under your name here on the forum too much at face value where in reality, it means jack shit

Regards,

Ian
You got a point there Ian. People did jump to conclusions, and i myself made some assumptions. *slaps self*
It happens, we all do it, but it's not so much the jumping to conclusions even on this topic IMO that's the major problem, to me the problem with the S2 / demo issue is that many S2 users seem to think they're something special and posting a flaming banana smiley makes them elite or something. If they _really_ feel they must interfere, then why not just send a mod a PM or the devs an e-mail (probably not the preferred option, but an option I guess)? But this is too discreet, no one would seem them being above a demo user that way and wouldn't be able to go and knock one out over it.

As said before, demo users that come here asking for this that and the other to be added to the demo almost deserve to be treated a different way as they are just freeloaders, but I can post screenshots of m$ office 2007 apps for example that I find on the net, that doesn't for a moment mean I pirated it (it wouldn't even run here if I wanted it to as I won't install SP2 which it requires).

S2 unlocks a variety of extra features that a demo user doesn't have access to, what it doesn't do is make you some kind of god and despite how much some people may / seem to want it, it won't convince the devs to have your children either

Ian

I agree there.

Personally, i find demo users fine, until they ask for free things or are like
omfg im teh big11oneelven!11 gimmie teh naws pl0x. (or simular)

If a demo user just asks for simple help, we should be normal, and ignore the words "Demo Racer" above thier avatar. A simple problem would be to remove the S2 licenced / Demo Racer bit.

*edit, just noticed, are we the Uk's official LFS Early Morning forum whores?*

lol yup, then they deserve a special reaction.

A classic thread was started the other day about skins not working.. a demo user started it which was 2 threads above another one saying skins didn't work, when I asked why they started a new thread, got a response of "I'm lazy.. can you gimme a link..........".. to which they got a far less than useful reply from me in the process.

I'm all for helping, have done it a fair bit and enjoy helping where I can, keeps my mind active if nothing else, but when someone simply can't be bothered to think for themselves etc, then I have no time for them, regardless of their license

I think removing the license status would be a great move too.. it really serves no purpose other than an ego stroking exercise and ammunition for the (few) S2 users who think the status makes them god-like.

Ah the working from home blessing/curse. I usually slip into these hours too but it's a swine when I get support calls at 9:30am. Always from the same guy too, and always about something that is none of my business ("Can you help me configure my office network?", "My browser won't start", "I found another man's undies in my washing machine", etc.).

Right, off to bed...
