I realise it's rather late, but I'm with it and not drunk this evening (admittedly for the first time in about a week or two).

The centre speaker from my 5.1 system appears to be emitting what appears to be a very faint foreign, classical, radio signal.

In summary:
* This only occurs when the volume is turned right down
* When the system is unplugged from the wall nothing occurs
* When the sub is plugged in and powered, and the speaker plugged in I get audio output
* When the sub plugged in and powered, but the centre speaker is not connected audio is output

The output appears to fluctuate.
My only thought is that the sub is picking up some kind of signal and then the magnet within is moving, producing an EM field which is driving the centre speaker. Sounds a bit far fetched though..

Anyone got any better ideas?
Audio is all quite sensitive, many amps suffer from channel bleed (not the proper term I'm sure) where, with no sound playing, you can faintly here audio that's being fed to another input. That's obv. not your problem, just an example. I can always hear the fridge turn on and off through my speakers, and the kitchen light. I swear this whole house is on one ring main or something, I should probably invest in some power conditioning, if only to save the speakers from long term wear (those blips can be nasty, especially if the volume is up, as it frequently is).

As to your problem, what is most curious is that it only happens at low volume levels, the opposite of what I would expect.

Unplugged from wall makes sense, the signal you're picking up won't be strong enough to power a conventional speaker. But you say you are getting audio output from the centre speaker, when it is unplugged? Have you tried experimenting with placement, moving the centre closer to / further from other speakers?

All a bit of a mystery to me.
I've got a query to add here aswell, instead of making a new topic.

I have a ministry of sound dvd cinema system, 5.1, had it for about 3-4 years. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Minist ... ment-System/dp/B0001RBVGE

Sometimes lately, when im watching a dvd - the speakers emit a constant pitched noise which last about 1-2 minutes, it goes from low pitch to high pitch and back to low again. This only happens when watching a dvd. Also, the rear speakers when you put your ear to them, sound as if there under water

Unless its assumed that there is a little power driving the speakers which counteracts the drive from the other signal.

The interesting thing is that some guys on another forum get the exact same problem, in various different countries - all of us using logitech kit...

Yup, no real difference until you get a metre or so away from the rest of the system and it only seems to occur late at night...

Do you play anything else in the system? CDs for instance?
If everything else fails, you could always try watching the film "White Noise"..it might give you some ideas......:ghostie:

....or nightmares!!
I only play dvd's in the system taa, never played normal cd's.

I get this frequency noise when it plays dvd's and also when i use it for the sound for the xbox via optical input. I don't get this frequency noise when i use the system as the sound output from the digital set top box (aux 1 channel on the cinema unit) but this is the only time when the rear speakers sound like there under water, i can't think to describe it as anything else

It's got me baffled
Perhaps the laser lense needs a good clean, or part of the system which reads DVDs is slightly knackered? It's a little out of my realm of expertise unfortunately...

With regards to my problem, it looks like it's a common issue (which I was unaware of);

Yea just thought i would post in here as your thread would already attract audio buffs Thanks anyway mate

This thing your getting with your system, we get a radio channel over the phone line when you pick the phone up before you dial someone

they all get the same classical music ?

on a more serious not though when exactly do you get that sound ? when the speaker itself is unplugged or when the amp is unplugged ?
