Voice messages? It really wouldn't require many samples to create audible explanations for the flags. Below I have listed what kind of of and how many samples you would need for this:
- Red flag : When is this displayed in LFS? Maybe when we get restarts when we need to drive back to grid but currently no need.
- Yellow flag : 2 different:
Single waved : "Yellow flag, yellow flag. Reduce your speed. Do not overtake."
Double waved : "Yellow flags, yellow flags. Reduce your speed. Do not overtake. Prepare to stop"
- Green flag : "Green flag, green flag". Also some kind of warning about going green so you know what's going on.
- Yellow flag with red stripes : no need in LFS yet *dreaming*
- Light Blue flag : 3 different:
Stationary, pit exit : "Exiting pits, merge traffic with caution"
Stationary, practise : "Faster car approaching, give way, give way"
Stationary, practise : "You are being lapped, give way, give way"
- Black flag : No need in LFS, at least not implemented yet.
- White flag: "Slower car ahead, pass with care, pass with care"
So in total that is 7 or 11 different sound samples. That isn't really much but imho sound samples, some sort of additional information, is defenately required if you put the flags on the side of the tracks. Experienced race drivers know what to do when you see these flags but to new drivers these flags are a mystery. There is the chance that some people won't even notice these flags unless told. Of course it would require Scawen to code a system to play these sounds, detect when the sounds are needed, prevent sounds played over each others and the option to turn them off etc. Imho, the text should go away from the middle of the screen, but not until you get audible messages because people need the information on 2 things: what's going on (=what the flag means) and what they should do. Below is the FIA rules, although Gunn could probably explain them better
