6600gt problem
Just a week ago I bought a 6600gt on ebay. Now I get these screens(attached images). Is it dead?

This is while booting bios.

Looks like the memory's fried. Drivers won't make a difference in the BIOS screen. I've had to send back a card that did more or less the same before, and that was the memory.

You'd have to talk to the seller about getting your money back, could be it's still under warranty? If it is, you'll most likely get a new one.
That card is broken. 6600GTs seem to be generally under equipped regarding the cooler, so I'd advise not only to get a replacement card but also a third party cooler with it. I lost one 6600GT myself due to frying the memory chips...

But the temperatures were ok and I didn't overclock it.
I didn't overclock it either and the temperature in the nVidia panel seemed okay too. Well, until I started logging the temperatures and saw they reached 93°C tops. Then I knew the reason the card broke.

It can still happen. You just got unlucky. I didn't overclock mine either. It just failed after half a year.
Yup, my asus 6600 gt with original cooler died to with no overclock... in 1 year, lucky i got a new one from RMA
So, as it seems to be dead, what can I get with similar performance(agp and brand new )?

A Geforce 7600GT is a good and relatively cheap card. Got one for myself recently, and I'm very happy with it. You could probably go with a GS if the GT is too expensive for you, but I'm not sure how they perform compared to the 6600GT.
- Radeon X1550 74 €
- geforce 7600gt 97 €

If you can afford it, go with the 7600GT. The X1550 is quite a bit slower (Probably slower than your 6600GT too based on what I've seen), and I wouldn't really recommend it.

EDIT: I'm not sure how trustworthy these guys are, but here's a review of cards with both chips: http://aphnetworks.com/reviews ... or_x1550_256mb_64bit_ddr2
NVIDIA 7600GS is up pair with 6600GT.
7600GT is a bit faster then 6600GT

Snark,
I am really sorry that the card seems to be really broken. Its not drivers realted issue due to card showing the artifacts already when you boot your PC.

I have 3 things to say before you will threw away that card.

Try to put off the cooler.Clean the GPU,apply new thermal paste and put back the cooler. Also if you have anything overclocked in your PC try it without.I know some motherboard dont have LOCK for AGP bus and when you overclocking and the AGP bus clocks get beyond whats accetable and the grahic cards start getting weird then.IT can also damage your card. Also try to turn fastwrites off.

If nothing help from what I have mentioned then you need new card.
You can try to add some thermal paste and clean the cooler. If that don´t fix it, you can flash your card, iit´s very easy and short process.
If not, I suggest 7600GS, 7600GT or X1950Pro depending on your money and needs
How can I flash it?
You need:

1º Nvflash
2º MSDOS Boot Disk
3º the new BIOS

all this inside a floppy disk.

Tell me the brand of the card (Club3D, MSI, XFX, Asus, Leadtek, etc) and I can prepare for you the floppy with all necessary things
It's a point of view. But as I can't see what's on screen(look at thcaptures in the first post) I can't type anything in dos-mode. Thanks anyway.
Is not necessary to see anything, I flhased once muy VGA without viewing anything

Here are the steps:

1 Download this file
2 Unrar to a floppy disk
3 Start computer with floppy disk as first boot device
4 Wait about 60 seconds
5 Type nvflash.exe -4 -5 -6 6600.rom (Press this key for type the -)
6 Wait about 40 seconds
7 Press Y key.
8 Wait about 30 seconds until you hear a bip
9 Press again Y
10 Wait about 30 secondos

And you can restart your computer, the card is now flashed.

You can try it if you want, yo don´t loose anything

PD: If you don´t understand anything I can explain it in Spanish
PD: If you can´t configure the motherboard BIOS for starting system from floppy disk, you can reset it by removing the battery for about 15 minutes.
No garanty anymore ?

@ get hold of a PCI graphics card. Somebody should send you one for the stamp it´ll cost this person. After receiving connect your monitor to the additionally installed PCI graphics card ( might have to tell your bios about it but prob. not ) and then you do the AGP flashing stuff, but i wouldn´t recommend it at all. I´d never try to flash a AGP the way it´s described above.

Instead: Install " nvtweak.reg " ( google ) then try do downclock your AGP card in your graphics menu. Start with 1st your memory frequency. reduce it a lot. I think as well that the memory likely is damaged - and 2nd your GPU if Gmem reducing wasn´t any helpfull.
If this won´t help your card is doomed.
There are even prg. found to release the timings of your Gmem.

Good luck.
I've once buyd my graphics card on ebay and it didn't work proper at first. When I had a closer look on it, I saw some kind of dirt (don't know what this was, unidentifical, but a huge amount of it) between the pins of one of the small chips on the card - cleaned it with a flexible brush - now all is working fine (maybe the pins where electrical connected throug it) so I suggest u take a 2nd look at ur card
It is dead. I'll go for the 7600gt(brand new!).

Thanks for your help.
