The online racing simulator
At the moment there are too many hoops in the process, making it a one click and then dismissed affair would be too few. We need to reduce the number of hoops involved in reporting a driver to raise the number of reports we are receiving, but you're quite right - I need to make sure it's not too easy that the system defeats itself. What I can promise you is reporting will be a much simpler affair than it is now and you wont need to know your way around LFS' folders to submit a replay - it'll be an easy process to follow.

Quote :a secure confirmed login allow people to view the licence notes

The new silent echo of commands means that we can now do secure web logins, but in the case of licence notes the new front end system will make these readily available.
excellent, nice one becky, how many hours is the rewrite up to now?

unless you got somthing wrong

buy us a tb hdd for the server and you've got continually saved replays
yep i understand what u sayin and i would if i could, i just guested 1tb and i was wrong

***goes off to look at 1tb hdds**** (lol)
Good luck searching for one , the only 1tb drives i've seen to date are twin 500's in the same casing. Last I looked (a month or so ago) the largest was 750mb.

Anyway the issue is: What is the point of keeping a public server replay archive beyond a few days?
um there really isnt one but as for the 1tb drive one way would be to get 2 500 or 3 300 ok not quite 1tb but close, anyway that is just speculation, i think if it is involved with an incident then keep it about 6months- 1 year unless its a serious thing but others 3 days is fine, oh and hitachi do sell a 1tb single drive, its the only one

Quote from AndroidXP :Which in a month is 19440MB. Am I very far off?

hehe! That's roughly what we'd calculated.. ~0.5GB/day
could be worse, 160 days from an 80gb hdd but then your talking 3 of em a year and its not worth it
actually there is a tb drive by hitachi (not a make i would buy but meh) well actially its a 1.000.000.000.000 byte drive but you know the drill
Quote from Becky Rose :For now feel free to throw some wild ideas around as to what is coming: You never know, you might be right ... or better, we might like the idea...

OK, how about a new and improved "meeting room". Or rather, a "dating service" for online races.

It's a place where you can enter your preferences for car, track, and race length, and where your licence and PBs are known. You log in, wait for the server to team you with some other racers. After a little wait you get a pop-up showing the proposed combo and lap count. If you like it you click "Accept", and you find yourself on the starting grid with a couple of other racers with abilities that match yours, ready for some close racing.

I wonder if you are using IS_REO to set the starting grid based on some sort of algorithm using one or more of:

finishing position in _your_ last race of the session
best lap in _your_ last race of the session
pb
licence type
type of car

That one?

Becky! Sam! Tell us what happened to Logitech Rally?! I always seem to get no reply from whenever I ask the quesiton. *beings to wonder if there's a reason why i don't get an answer*
This sounds cool, i've just got back into racing on the CTRA servers after a few weeks away due to being aggrevated about very poor racing standards on the 1a server. It has picked u recently though and i'm starting to accumulate some points so i'm looking forward to this CTRA system update
Is the single seater licence still in your plans? I am hopeless in the TBO cars and make up for my lack of talent with downforce, so at the moment CTRA would be a futile exercise for me.

I know the rally idea is not dead. Where in the list of current programming priorities it sits, I cannot guess.. but it isn't dead

Hell yeah, it's still in the plans!

We cannot stress the importance of reporting incidents rather than simply throwing in the towel, but we're aware that it's always been a pain in the bum to do and this is why we haven't had the reports we've needed in order to maintain the standard we've set.

We want the good guys to stay (obviously ) and we want the bad eggs out. As Becky's intimated, in a few weeks we'll have a system which makes the process of reporting a simple, straight-forward process. God help anyone, AFTER then, that complains about the standards but doesn't bother to report the incidents....
The $commands are pretty much superceded, although they still have a role to perform. When used they wont be seen by other players. I want to design the system so that it never, ever, actually needs a $command typed in. Clean and simple is the plan, although we're extending functionality considerably. I want you to be able to do a full licence lookup from within the server, for instance.
Quote :Tell us what happened to Logitech Rally?!

The Logitech Rally requires a significant amount of custom programming, half the features of the management system have to be disabled and replaced and lots of new stuff added. Sadly, the old system was almost there, but it's a lot of work to make a reality.

I wanted to deliver it several months ago, but when the insim changes started looming it became futile to finish it.

Currently I dont know if and when it will appear. I'd like for it to appear on our new event system - ooops, I just said something I shouldn't.
lol
2TB HD, a bargain at a mere £464
1.5TB for as little as £345.

So, which of you is stumping up the cash?

I'm looking forward to seeing more of the new system features!
if i had 464 or 345 i would buy one straight away, what you could do is have a donate thing through paypal, so if people want the replays to be stored they should donate plus also i think we should all contribute to the cost of running every aspect of the ctra servers
Wha.. oh nevermind. Come on guys, this was just a "IF we would save the replays, we'd need that much space". The point is, they DON'T. It would be a huge waste of space for a stupid feature. If you want a replay then save it yourself, and if you forgot to save a replay then simply get it fast enough before it's deleted.

So, the unnerving urge to discuss terabyte drives still overcomes you? Go here.
It's a moot point anyway, those boxes are all twin drives (two smaller drives on a concatonated RAID). Space in datacentres is expensive, which makes those twin external drives cost about £40 a month for space on a shelf in the datacentre... Which puts a whole new perspective on their cost! The solution would be to use smaller but single unit drives inside the machine, but as is mentioned - who actually wants to review race replays from several months ago?
yeah i was messin a bit with the donate to a drive but i think we should all donate to the running costs and maybe to entice people more if youo do do it have a little note on there licence page and/or userbar saying they had donated
