True, drifting an F1 car would take loads of talent, because F1 cars aren't meant to go sideways (not since the late 60s anyway). But the kind of drift that happens modern high-grip F1 cars is either very slight (i.e. not at all the kind of back-out drifting show drifters use) or by accident. Comparing a D1 car to an F1 car isn't really a comparison...
Check Ayrton's 1991 pole lap at Adelaide here for a master class in how to keep a 1991 slick-shod F1 car in control when its back end wants to step out. There's a little drift here and there on this lap, but it's all accidental. It's also under brilliant control  I'm sure Senna watched that lap afterwards, cursing himself for those little sideways excursions - would've cost him valuable hundredths!
The point is, drifting a 90s F1 car is not something any sane driver would try to do at any time, let alone while trying to pass someone, and the lightning-fast corrections Senna has to do in this video illustrate that perfectly.
I don't agree about the original idea, but as it was said after the first post, a race with a sinuous track (like Bathurst ) would be cool so
-mountain ok
-specific to drift >> NO!

As rumor has it, Keiichi Tsuchiya was in a car race, and was dead last. He decided to swing the car around the corners, shocking and amazing the crowd. When accessed later for comment, Tsuchiya called it "drifting." While this is not the origin, it is probably where it obtained its name and introduction. In 1977 Keiichi began his racing career driving many different cars in amateur racing series events. Racing these underpowered cars was difficult but again a great learning experience. Later Keiichi was picked up to drive the ADVAN sponsored Toyota AE86/Sprinter Trueno (JDM Corolla GT-S). During many races on a downhill corner he would drift the car and carry a better corner speed than his competitors. This technique is what made him the Drift King, not, as most believe, that he was first in the drift scene.
Many of the techniques used today in drifting were developed by rally drivers competing on dirt, gravel and snow. On such surfaces, the fastest way to take a corner is generally by sliding."
This one make feel like a totaly moron right? Drifting is a racing technique
Imagine a downhill section of a rally with tight corners ,now imagine 2 drivers one "racer-grip" and a "racer-drifter" there is now way for the "grip" one to win the race (we dont take in to consideration that they lose a corner and fall down the hill :P )
Another example is WRC rally where they drift Every single one tight corner because its the fastest way to take the corner
Ty my 2 cents plz :P
In the other hand in nascar or F1 drifting make you slow cause of the style of the race and and limitations of the car setup and tyres setup + Computers software assistance witch prevent you from oversteering (traction control) moslty for the health ensurance of the driver
You can also try to find and watch <<The pikes pike "Climb Dance" Avec Ari Vatanen>> And learn about what drifting is and if faster to stay on grip under those circumstances
I understand why you speaking like that for drifting ,i dont like either to see little mama boys to say i want a skyline with neon and 2 bar boost to drift like mad among the crowd and after that pressing and posing my nitro and every other stupid thing that Fast and Furious taught em, But this doesnt make drifting stupid
Drifters only want to push the car in to going sideways where "racers" (in your term) cant escape from this and they have to do it
After all i think it need more skill to have a car going sideways with 160 kh/h than just pass the same corner with 160 kh/h
As example lets take a simple common driver he can easily take a corner with 60 kh/h than take this corner sideways with 60 kh/h (prolly hiting the brakes and going off the road) This is cause of the skill that is needed to balance the car sideways
I would've said this in your other thread ZzeCoOl, but it was locked when I found it this morning...
Ian is not talking about powerslides in racing, he is talking about show drifting. In a race if sliding around a corner is faster than driving through it 'normally,' then sliding is the preferred option.
Show drifting, on the other hand, is what Ian is calling stupid. I'd agree, I think it's dumb too, but if people like it then by all means do it... just don't do it on a racing server with people who want to race.
why u guys think this all want be only for drift?????
ITs stupid idea to think omg this only drift so I can drive there because i am just race.
EEEEEEE all this means about make some mountain where u can make batles for touge races and for drift and other timetrials. I think if this willbe some times released mayby. U guys all gona say DAMN THX For creators its AWSOME.
How we see alot of u just speaking some $#!t that they understand somthing.
All LFS players must be hapy so if this project will be (mayby) Its will be for all!
When i've be demor acer, from first version of lfs in 2002.. to some.. april 2007? I always loves drift in lfs..
Now when I have S2, I only racing... and racing... and racing... AND RACING? Yep, true. Almost zero drift on lfs, why? Propably because now I riding with maaany more peoples in faster cars hehe.
But, as drift.. I love drift too in real world, in my sweety car by night.. mmmm... in city centre.. mmm and on offroads xD hehe..
But LFS, only races now. So finally, mountain track can be great for racers too, not for drift. Im dreaming about some track like these... page back
Gie t-R there hasnt been to many patch x s2 drift servers ( im guessing because not every one has patch x now) but when patch w was out ive seen plenty of drift servers try reading more and on your servers list options turn full servers off and make available servers on and you will see drift servers ps: dori named or nismo named servers are usually drift servers to oh and also pure d station.
this might have been said but mountian / downhill track isnt just for drifting this is lfs you can do what you want on it but me im personally a drifter but if this comes out i also plan on playing cops and robbers and racing on it to so + 100 for me
one thing i find funny is Keiichi Tsuchiya still holds the record for tbuska <-- spelling in a NSX race car
one thing i find funny about ur coments ian is ur totaly bias to the fact that anyone else could have a differnt state of mind then you. you remind me of the polititions they are right and will allmost force u to see that.
as for drifting i do think drifting dose require more skill then racing at a competive lvl in a sence but professional drifting i cant stand its like syncro swiming pritty to watch but not that cool drifting for fun and learning car controle is where its at.
as for drifting roundabouts in ur cossie lmao man how easy is it to go around and around sideways it takes not much skill linking muilty corners and holding ur lines is where the fun is at
and i have one REALLY REALLY fast drifters on demo servers running 1:24's consistant on BL XRT but only cause i asked for a race not a drift
I love to drive my car in mountain roads (have a lot of them in Portugal).
For me, the only thing i really miss in LFS is this. This "omission" is the reason that makes me play other sims like Collin 4, GT4, and rf.
The handling in LFS is the most reallistic of all the sims i play, but i still need the mountain roads to complete my desire for racing imersion.
One day i'll get home, turn on my computer, run LFS, download the new update, restart and then notice that there's a new track called "xxx Mountain"... that will be the best update ever :headbang:
I'm pretty sure I have posted that to this or some other thread about same subject. That is great clip indeed (You can hear engines, even there is unneeded music), there was another similar that was on-board Lamborghini.
Whel gaming drift is like to easy real life is hella hard i geas its not like i ever drifted i just drive car aurond a track at a trackday but stil im timed my highest result was 9th overal in my dads 11 year old rear wheel drive 212 bhp swift its like fun to drive but stil nighmare in maintanence
a mountain course is +1 for me.But a -1 for ONLY drifting.I mean i LOVE drifting but a mountain course ment for DRIFTING is Touge.Racing and Drifting in a mountain course is touge also but a mountain course we could use for Hill climbing and drifting too(and racing ).
