Force "shift+f" mode as server option
I think it could be the ideal complement to the forced cockpit view.

I think the problem with doing that is there are InSim applications that show alot of the information that's being removed so it wouldn't really be fair. It's also a rather drastic move, though I would be in vavour of a server option to get rid of some of the more arcadey bits left in LFS such as the map.
Ehm, some people like to see their position, lap times and everything, I think this "feature" would not even suite the league races
-(1000²)
-5000 from me.

Why? Because most drivers like to a) see their laptimes and b) some of the 'n00b' (And experienced, for that matter) drivers use the map to learn the course. Take that away and you have carnage

So it's a dumb idea IMO

If you're learning the track by looking at the map whilst driving you shouldn't be on it in the first place, looking at a map doesn't give you much of an indication to what the corners are really like.

I don't understand... In my car I don't have maps, no times, no tyre temps or suspension damages... Only me and my car. Maybe somebody talking me in the radio, but no text messages

^^ I definatley agree that there should be an option for a server to ban the map, tire temps and damage bars but I can also see the problem that InSim applications can show some of this info, maybe is there was a way to show what InSim apps someone was running it could be done fairly.

I don't understand... In my car I feel the G-forces, I don't look out from a hole that is 15-24 inch in diameter and the main thing I see is the cockpit itself.

Sure you do.

Maps: Get a GPS.
Tire temps: Get a laser temperature detector, I have one.
Suspension damage: Go to a local car shop and, or stick your head under your car to look for any broken parts.
Text messages: Got a phone?
There should never have been a live tyre temperature display or live suspension damage display, that should all only be visible in the pits. Maybe live pressure readout but that's it.

I don't think there's a need to force shift-f, any more than there is a need to force analogue speedo, or force blue overalls. The basic shift-f info doesn't make you any quicker, and most of it is just a way of compensating for the lack of pit-board and/or car2pit radio.

(IMO)
+1 for this and forced dynamic LOD reduction of 1.00 as well! LFS should also kill all known popup causing processes such as messenger antivirus etc.
LFS still shows me less information than the onboard computer on my go kart.

while we're at it, maybe we could rename the game to GTR maybe. this forum is really starting to annoy me.

Then if you push shift+f your car should be slightly lighter
This is stupid.

Minimap - you would have a pit crew.
Tyre temps - eh? MOTEC stuff can show you that.
Suspension damage - you don't have a pit crew that would tell you how much you screwed the car up.
And the fact of the matter is that in LFS you can't get the seat of the pants feel and you can't drive a R/L car through a monitor.

Possibly add a pit crew first ...
Why do I get the feeling this is a thread made in jest due to the uproar from the forced cockpit option?

In either case, -1. I want to know what lap I'm on, my position, what drivers I am closest to in position, and in some cases splits/lap times, and splits to the other cars. All of that info is available to most drivers during the corse of a race through pit crew interaction. Until we have that feature (and a way to ask for this information on-the-fly) then this gets a major -1 from me.
no comments...just...
-1000 too
mini map is necessary when outing pits to drive fair and dont block anyone.

Nope, don't think its jest. I am all for this mode as well as a server side option.

There is an uproar EVERY time a new restriction is added.

Fuel.... Calls for it to remain static and not run out.
Damage, Tyre wear + heat... Calls for it to be optional.
No car reset... Calls to allow it again
Forced view... Calls to not have the option.

This is all linked with the hardcore mode that many of us have been requesting for ages.

Things like the mini map, F9 and F10 display should not be available in a race, just the pits.

I do agree with Maggot though in that this should come in when the we have pit crew that can feed the info they WOULD be able to and nothing else.
It would work only if we would have some alternate (more realistic) way of getting the info, like pitcrews and pitboards.
Fine by me. The clock and my current lap time are not especially important. I do like the positions list though, as I know to keep pushing if I'm closing down on someone out of site, or am being caught from behind. It's all a substitute for pit radio really, once we have that, most of the in-game GUI could be shelved.

Pitboards and some basic pit radio messages would make this work very well I think.
I know my split times before my pit crew does. They dont get it until I get back to the pits and download. Whilst the mini map isnt terribly 'realistic' it serves to give information that is available to the driver anyway from the radio, the other information on the HUD both real & virtual is less than I get with a standard go kart on board computer. I wouldnt mind F10 only being visible from the pits, but we need graphical representation of at least the contact patch (its darker in real life) and flatspots etc. I get all sorts of information on my dashboard, that isnt in LFS. Like the ability to show the peek revs (tell tale) etc.
+1 for me, i think it would be a great idea, because i do have to agree when your out there on your own.
Wheres your mini map or other drivers positions, i mean a mini in hud GPS that shows the track might clear matters though a bit drastice but i like the idea of forcing Shift+F.
And pit boards would also be a nice addition hehe but thats a diffrent matter and thread.
I don't know why you'd want to force it off anyway, it doesn't make you any faster to see timing information. The only times I've used it I've been quicker in shift+F mode than with the HUD because I concentrate more on the road and the next corner and less on what colour my tyres are.
