Lexus Soarer Info Please :)
An ad has just appeared on our notice board at work... 1993 Lexus Soarer, low mileage, excellent condition, £1600.

Engine size/model NOT specified, but I was wondering if it was worth going around and ripping the guys arm off....looking around the 'net and it seems that £1600 for a Soarer in ANY sort of (running) condition is a good price.

Anybody got any ideas??

Its not bad, all depends on the model.

A neighbour had one until he chopped it in for the new Lexus GS300 dolphin looking car. Anyhow, his was very nice. They were an advance car for the time.

You will have to find out which engine it is. Leather might be good, some don't have it. Believe they were a reliable car as most Japanese cars are!
Im pretty sure that the soarer uses the same chassis and maybe the same engine (ma70) as the old mk3 supra. So should be either a 3ltr na, or 3ltr turbo. Or they could use some of the jap only enigines from the mk3 supra which was a 2.5 ltr turbo (very simular to the one used in the mk4).

Of course I could be totally wrong. But I've heard they're nice cars.

Edit: If it does use the same engine as the mk3 supras then you have to be careful of blown head gaskets, can be quite commen.
lexus are just toyta's with a differant badge and a much better car set-up
pointing out the obvious ben? Try being a little more useful and giving blade some help instead of acting like a know-it-all. @ Blade, sounds like quite a good deal, give the bloke a call and ask him some info about the engine, condition etc. Then organise a meet up if your interested. Be very wary of any modifications, partiulary on the suspension, the soarer use's airbag suspension on some models, but like some hondas, it has adaptive shocks i.e, acts soft and gentle, then when you start chucking it round the corners, it hardens them up to give the car better handling. So look out for any suspension modifications. When you start the engine, listen to it at idle and listen out for a slight tappety noise. The engines in the soarers are common for loose cylinder heads, shafts etc so listen out for them. If its a turbo model, watch out for any smoke or oil coming from around there. during there production, there were alot of "cut and shut" soarers going about, and im not joking about this. So, when possible, open up all the door and pull back the rubbers and look for signs of a cut and shut like weld marks and other things. If possible, try to get the car onto a ramp and look underneath. Have a look at the exhaust and also, this is a better way to check out the suspension, so be sure to have a good look though them. Onto the interior, the interiors on these cars are very nicely laid out, although obviously, judging by its average age, the interior may be pretty worn. If this is the case and you want to replace the seats or get them re-fabricated, dont worry, this can be done for quite a low price. import specialists are usually a good place to begin looking for any replacement parts for the car. These cars have alot of electronics, so press every button you can
one more thing, these cars can come with 4-wheel steering, but these are incredibly rare. If this one DOES happen to be a 4-wheel steering model, simply put the car up on ramp jacks, and steer the car all the way to the left, go back and look at the rear wheels, it will be hard to tell, but they should be pointing in the opposite direction to the front by about an inch. Do the same but turn to the right.

i hope this has helped you mate
/me falls to sleep
i gave all the info he needs to know , the the lexus soarer is a slightly shortend body but it sports the same chassis as the toyota chaser/soarer but the european modelsd came with a lightly changed engine

the interior is the same except for a few extra options ( 6 cd changer , sports suspeintion etc )

the only problem with the car is that people like them too much , there normally only sold when someones upgrading to a brand new lexus or bmw

see theres all the info you'll need to know about it
That doesnt tell him about the car though.

If they are reliable, easy to drive, worth the money the bloke is asking for, etc etc.

Try being more helpful instead of trying to look good with your knowledge, which isnt always right

I would just ring the guy Blade, ask about its age, and view it. Nothing wrong with having a look at it
Thanks for the HELPFUL post Nathan, that sort of gave me the info I needed!

TheIrishNoob....thanks, but I _KNEW_ that Lexus's (Lexii??) were basically blinged-up Toyotas (Japanese Mercs! )...I even KNEW that Lexus stands for Luxury EXport to the United States....(did you?)

What I DIDN'T know is what are the good/bad points of Lexus Soarers, has anybody owned one...what to watch out for...how expensive are they to keep..etc etc...
Alan Partridge and Dan Moody call the Lexus the Japanese Merc

The real question is the plural of Lexus.

Lexi? Lexus's? Lexus? you decide.
Lexi without a doubt.
