The online racing simulator
I agree with Hyperactive's point that a fantasy track of Nurburgring proportions would be frustrating and lose popularity because it isn'tthe Nurburgring.

The real track and its history are the biggest motivators for people to drive/race on it in RL or in sims.

That said maybe we can start a petition and present it to the devs saying that we'd gladly pay more for S3 to offset the license fees necessary to create the 'Ring for LFS.
Personally i dont really want the Nurburgring/Nordschleife in LFS. It's a great track dont get me wrong, but it's crap to race on. I've played it many time on other 'console' games and it's just too narrow.
It would be fun to have a drive on in single player. Some people have trouble not running into people at the end of the straight at BL. LOL! Could u imagine the n00b's on that track! ha ha ha!
Quote from ajp71 :There are only 2 proper sims worth knowing about featuring the 'ring, they are GPL and Nascar 2003.

You are in luck, it will never be in there anyway. illepall

I agree with you there, I don't think a tight and twisty track would play to LFS's strengths. The challenge of Nurby is a personal one whereas LFS only shines when you're amongst fellow racers.

GPL was such a pleasure to drive you could bomb round a track on your own for ages and get great satisfaction from that. RBR also manages to achieve this, which it should, being a rally sim. On the other hand, I find hotlapping in LFS uninspiring. Even to learn a track I'd rather go online and stay out of everyone else's way than scoot round on my own.

The suspect handling in LFS needs to be sorted before something like Nurby would really work.
Okay, the Nordschleife may be a very fascinating track, but imo you need many players to bring the ring to life... remember the recent big 24 hour races, they had up to 240 cars on the track!!! You can't go there with 20 people and just have a ride...

I would love racing the xrr there for a few hours though!
i´d pay more/donate for the Nordschleife too.
its a great track!:boing:
kinda O/T:

Is the Nordschleife privately owned? Or is it owned by the German Government? If privately owned who owns it?
Personally, I'd rather have Cadwell Park or Oulton Park than the Nordschleife. In fact, there's a great number of "that kind of track" tracks I'd prefer to see included, just because they're better to race on, particularly with a relatively low number of cars.

Isn't the Nurb version in Racer also ported from GPL?
In an F1 mag a while ago they created a fantasy track based on all the best corners in the world. After I've moved house (this weekend) I'll find the mag and let you all know about it.

From memory it was pretty huge, not quite Ring size but 15k's i think.

More to come

The roads are owned by the government (public road rules apply) but the Nurburgring as a whole is a GmBH which is something like ermm..Nurburgring Inc. I think

The Nürburgring is more a race against the track than a race against opponents... even with the limited field of 6 cars, the Nürbi in GT4 is thrilling.
moin,

at least, if the track is delivered, and accurate enough, we can compare round times to real sessions so you can argument that lfs is really a sim not a fuzzy arcade game like nfs. (wich had fun times too but...).
Oftenly i've heard rumors that a kown racer stated "this game has real good physics" does anyone have proof?
we could have a monte carlo'esque track while we're at it.
well then the idea of all official tracks comes to life-
Tsukuba- a great sprinter , for close racing
Silverstone, Donington...Contidrome, lausitz, Avus....This will never end- Watkins glen, Road america, Bathurst-Mt.Panorama. Oran Park, Thruxton Brands hatch. MilleMiglia, Rouen, LeMans-lasarthe, Norisring-good city scuffle, SPA!

so a list of driving tracks should be out there and poll undertaken by the LFS liscenced to see what would be worth paying for.
Nurburgring of course. Do historical tracks need payment for them by modern versions? i.e. Avus 1930's- pre 1980 Nurby? some of the old distance races....

This reminded me about the "Gran Turismo 4 lap times are within 2% of the real life equivalent" crap that GT4 fan boys are saying.

Real life: 6:25.91 Porsche 956 (1983) (according to Nurburgring official website)
GT4: 4:44.650 Toyota Minolta 88C-V Race Car

1½ minutes... yeah, 2 % indeed.

Quote from Forbin :I wouldn't rule it out entirely. We have 2 real cars, don't we? Granted, they were included for special reasons. Perhaps there's a track out there that needs some advertising?

what are the 2 real cars?
MRT5 and RaceAbout.
4.40 at the Ring? LOL "simulator" my a55. I doubt that even an 80s F1 car with huge slicks and a giant turbo could go under 5 minutes.

I was always a fan of the GT series (mostly for beer-fuelled unmodified Dodge Viper battles at Trial Mountain or Deep Forest) but a sim? Come on. It's great fun but there are physics holes you could drive a Mack truck through in that game
on topic, this would be very cool, as it could be like the ring on weekdays and weekends. you get spawned in the car park, and leave from there.

off topic, if you get a chance to drive/ride the ring, then do it. it scares the shit out of you, because of its reputation, and a well deserved one at that. if you see a porsche, get out of the way, they usually know what they are doing. pass on the left, and let others pass on the left. and if anyone fancies doing it next year, im going, so pm me
I'm going again this summer. I think I'll either borrow the girl I'm gunna stay with's M3, or my uncle's Porsche 911GT2. (Heh, modified twin turbo, puts out around 750bhp, new suspension and tires... It's good stuff). And on a side note, the first time I drove the 'ring, it DID scare the shit outta me. I was driving a buddy's Subaru, and I was passing people all over the place... and then came the Carrera GT (you know, the new $650k Porsche)... blew past me (whilst going a little more than 160 mph) like I was sitting up on jack-stands. He had to have been doing about 200 mph. (I've moved from Germany to Amerika now... and become kinda americanized, so i tend to use MPH instead of km/h)

So, how much is it? Where do I have to pay the money for the LFS-ring? As long as it isn't above 150€ I'm in.
