Just confirms how horrid rF looks in my opinion. Muse be extra horrible not being able to escape it when you exit rF, and actually have to see it on the desktop too. Poor you.
You're crazy- rF blows most any sim away.. I mean if you are comparing it to LFS, LFS doesn't even have dynamic shadows.. although LFS does look really good, I can say that.
That screen I took looks different every 5 minutes in the game, drastically different nearing sunset or sunrise, and of course, dynamically changing into night, and the daytime again..
Of course rF is completely mod-able so NEW cars and models come out, with higher resolution than stock cars, also new tracks, higher res track textures, etc, etc, etc..
If you don't have the game, you can't talk, I have both.
I guess of course if you like octagon wheels LFS is your thing.. HAHA..
My current-
EDIT
Just a comparison of that first shot-
Different time of day- different look..
(un-edited)
(and that is a completely built-from-scratch add-on track)
EDIT- I just don't see how people can say that looks horrible... I am an artist.. and have an eye for things that look good, at least to me.. I think the GFX in both games are great, in different ways.
I do own both. I've played both (although rF really didn't impress me at all apart from the brake squeal, which was nice).
And you're comparison pic just looks more washed out. Neither of your pictures look remotely real. Fantastic 3D models, high res textures, custom made tracks and whatever else rF might or might not have count for ZILCH if the end result looks rubbish.
I'd rather have LFS's realistic look (even if it does have funny shaped wheels at times) over rFactors 'Manga' look. It's the reason I doubt rF will ever be installed again. Okay, thats exaggerating, I'd be a fool to do that. I will reinstall it eventually, and try the various mods. But not yet. Rf is too crap at the moment to warrent the installation.
If you two want to argue about LFS v rFactor, go find one of the threads that have already been made to argue about LFS v rFactor. This is for posting your desktop.
I've never really been into skinning my XP, or giving it some crazy theme. I just like the plain old functional desktop with standard theme and just a neat picture once in a while.
I change my picture every month or something. This is one for January (Last month was some Maybach)
My current desktop, the icons are from Icon Factory (see link), they're a Mac set but will work on Windows. I have found a freeware program that changes system icons better than any other program.
For those who don't know it the drop stuff and expander shortcuts are for Stuff It the best free archive program IMO, just simply drop an archive onto the shortcut and it extracts the files, saves a load of time, making archives is just the same in reverse. You need to download the Standard trial which includes the free version in it.
Does rFactor really look that crap in game? To me every screen I've seen has looked very artificial and I never got the MP test to run, it may look better in motion, but anyone who says that screen looks good doesn't see a screen in the same way my eyes do.
IMO LFS doesn't look very real, instead it looks like simple 3D graphics, and is easy to read and understand, no need for fancy lighting in a sim, the more visual stuff you add all over the screen the harder your brain has to work to see it as being real. I don't want LFS to look 'real' with fancy lighting, instead I would like it to be a simple image that my brain can think is real. It's why I find GPL completely drivable with the standard textures in a decent resolution, obviously I don't use the original 7 year old textures, but if I had to I could because it doesn't have a load of fancy effects covering up whats actually important to be able to see.
