Dear Customer

It's been a busy time at Nildram since Tiscali acquired us on 13 September and we know you may have questions about what it means to you.

We would like to take the opportunity to reassure you that as a Nildram customer this means no change to the services and support you receive at present. In fact Tiscali are proposing to include the Stoke Mandeville Support Centre in their plans for supporting all of Tiscali's business customers.

Going forward our focus will remain on providing business-strength broadband and communications services to our discerning consumers and small and medium sized business customers, as well as to our reseller partners. We will continue to offer the same high quality 24/7 technical support that you have been accustomed to.

We're delighted at the enthusiasm and encouragement we have received from Tiscali. Being part of Tiscali is great news for Nildram. With over 1.9 million broadband customers and an unbundled local loop ("LLU") network covering over 800 BT exchanges, with another 200 in the pipeline, we have access to additional infrastructure and expertise to help us expand and improve our services. In addition, Tiscali's range of internet and entertainment services for the consumer market, new services recently launched for the SME market and wholesale channel portfolio, offer us the opportunity to look at further developing the service we can offer you in future.

As we enter this exciting next phase, I would like to thank you for your support over the last 12 years and assure you that we will continue to keep you updated on any developments.

Anyone here already use Tiscali ? is it anygood?
or anyone here work for an ISP I am wondering what this will really mean for me?

Old news I'm afraid.

Tiscali bought the ISP side of Pipex and all it's associated companies maybe 6 months or so ago. The deal has recently been finalised and changes are being made.

Tiscali have been synonymous with crap broadband since they started really, I would be worried as well if I was in your position. I suppose all you can do really is to see how it pans out, and make sure you don't resign up to anything with a minimum 12 month contract.

Yep - same here. Be prepared to be kicked off from online races due to your connection being cut off suddenly. Becomes very annoying after a while - especially when I got better and started winning races on demo servers - ure miles in the lead, and the connection goes off! I swear Tiscali pick on me!

Also, the broadband was off all night last monday!
Get the hell out of that contract at the first available opportunity...
Tiscali = MegaCrap
Used to use Tiscali, fine when it worked, PITA otherwise. Their webstats suck, too.

Quote from BlueFlame :Tiscali are crap, even normally their DNS sucks, so it stops you from going on IE or MSN, you can only play games or go on Teamspeak. This really sucks.

OpenDNS ftw.

Quote from Bob Smith :OpenDNS ftw.

ISCBind ftw

Quoting people before they post is just plain weird though :Eyecrazy:
How the hell did he manage to quote me, before I even posted...

Bobs internet has a ping of -10000 ms. I think he has the same ISP as Jakg, just he's closer to the datacenter.

Dustin - i use BT.

BT's DNS is getting worse and worse though, i'm being forced to use OpenDNS which i don't especiall like.
Tiscali are generally regarded as a poor ISP, they also have (apparently) one of the strictest "fair use policies" there is, and are well known for aggresive bandwidth shaping, basically, they don't like online gaming, or heavy downloaders, they really cater for the "lite user" side of the market.

Might be an idea to start thinking about jumping ship Dave.

It doesn't show "edited by" if he edits his post within minutes of the original post

I know... but that saying that spoils the joke you fool.
ok I figured Tiscali had a reputation for a reason I might just have to jump ship after all Dan

So my question now is who would be a good UK ISP (I could go SDSL (bussiness) but its still a little pricy) I am currrently on an 8Mb "max dsl" service and actually connect around 4Mb down and 500K up.

Any ideas?

6 months ago, I would have said Eclipse without hesitation, however, their service has a been a little bit up and down.

I had a big winge at them a few months ago about service during peak times, and they seem to have cured the slowness I/we were getting.

I did look around for an alternative, but I could'nt find an ISP that has NO FUP (obviously outside peak times, 6pm-11pm)an 8mb connection, and decent support for £15.

I would still recommend Eclipse, but they are not as good as they were a year or so ago.

Go for the Eclipse BUSINESS package...no silly shaping or limits...8mb down, free phone calls (to 01 and 02 numbers)..all for £24

(tell them I sent you...so I get some goodies )
Sod you, I want my goodies!!!!!!!
OK, I wouldn't recommend switching from Tiscali to Eclipse. My Dad did the same thing and ended up with a borked line for months (although at least since both companies got confused, he ended up not paying anything, as neither admitted they were supplying his broadband, despite it still working). The root of the confusion seemed to stem from Eclipse reselling Tiscali lines, coupled with the Tiscali marker on the line not being removed. A situation anyone should be keen to avoid.
Thanks for all the comments.
OK I'm not in a great rush to get into the migration game just yet, but did make a call to my ISP's customer line, and they have assured me that Tiscali are really only shareholders lol. and that Nildram will keep its own house the way they like, regardless of Tiscali's terms etc. I am only ever 30 days away from contract termination (by me) so if things change I've only a month to wait.

Ive not noticed any problems ...yet

lets hope it stays that way.

BT all the way.
We use virgin in my house. Its the only decent thing from them. We have phone from them too, with good-ish deals, but we have had quite a few problems with them. We USED to have tv from them, but when they took over telewest, it all wents downhill so now we have gone with sky for TV.

So my recommendation is virgin, but ONLY for the internet, nothing else.
No experience with Tiscali myself, I just wanted to congratulate on the the use of the word 'caffuffle' in the first post
