Quote from harjun :comeon...the £10 don't make a difference....

Of course it doesn't... when it's not from your own pocket! I thought you learned something Harjun but i was wrong obviously..
Only ever ordered 1 thing from OcUK that was in stock, ordered around 2pm, arrived next day (I always use City Link over Royal Mail given the choice).

Usually use ebuyer though. The best deal was when I ordered the bits for my PC using Google Checkout - £10 off each item

yeh right... ARE YOU JOKING?!?!?!?!?1 So i could have taken around...£100 of my whole PC..?
Quote from dadge :i thought you knew bud, sorry. there's a 7900GX2 (basically 2 7900 gpu's) 1GB @ 512bit for a shocking £107. i'll try to find the link for you

'kin ell!

I've only ever ordered two things "on the spur of the moment", one was an 8800GTS 640 for £131 (mis-price on Amazon when they came out), and the second was a 7950GX2 for £91 a few weeks ago.

If only i hadn't just got a new GFX card (8800GTX. WOO! If only i had a working PC to use it in...) i'd buy it, GX2's were plagued with problems, and the 7900 version was quite rare (the 7950GX2 was much more common). DAMNIT!

Jakg...no offence or anything... but your CPU is really bad...at load temps it does 63 Celcius...with watercooling...and yet only 16 seconds in Super pi...Not to boast or anything, but my £50 CPU is at 3Ghz aswell, on a stock cooler with the same load temps as yours, and does 17 seconds in super pi.... i think for £100, you could have got a LOT LOT better cpu

No offence or anything...
Harjun, you have just committed suicide. You do realize you are about to be flamed the hell out of by everyone right?

No offence or anything, but your talking out of your arse.

Firstly, i'm running a fairly rubbish water cooling system. Secondly i get 16 seconds versus 17 not because of a Quad Core (SuperPi is multi-threaded), but because my memory is running at DDR1075.

Your CPU makes 65w of heat, whereas mine makes 105w (B3 ). I have no idea if the cache makes a difference to the overall heat production, but if it didn't then you've got less cache and a lower FSB (at stock, at least). THATS why my CPU runs hotter.

My CPU was a bargain, a £120 2.13 GHz Quad was great for the price of a 2.66 GHz Dual core, just as good value as a £185 (at the time) 2.4 GHz Quad.

I want to see those load temperatures. Mine loaded at over 70 with the stock cooler, had to lower the clock until I got the AC Freezer 7 Pro.

Proof please. Super Pi proof, too.
Jakg, I'm just curious, what ARE the load temps on your CPU and what sort of CPU is it? I'm only asking because my CPU puts out 125W of heat, and my load is lower than yours on air cooling. Are you sure something else isn't wrong with the water cooling setup? If not, why not go back to an air-cooled setup, as it will probably get you lower temps?
You have an E2140, right?

The E2180 comes in the new "M0" stepping which makes less heat versus the stepping of yours (Something like L2...?). Same thing as with the B3 vs G0 stepping on teh Q6600/X3210/X3220's.

EDIT - Click the "PC" link in my sig to see my specs. I get 63 degrees load, running on a B3 Xeon X3210 Quad. AMD rate TDP's "more accurately" than Intel afaik, so i'm fairly sure that my CPU puts out ust as much if not more heat than yours. A Tuniq Tower would probably give me just as good temps, however it wouldn't be silent (and i MEAN silent). I'm hoping that once i remove the graphics card block (i doubt that this reserator would copy with an overclocked Quad and a GTX!) the thing will get lower temps, but i don't know. I've done everything i can to get lower temps (ie AS5 with a PERFECT application), but theres only so much a passive radiator can do.

Ah, yeah mine's L2. That would explain why I get higher temps, but 3Ghz on a chip very similar (E2140 vs E2180) shouldn't produce a 3-4 second SuperPi difference.

I run 20.500 Super Pi 1M.

OMG! 100£ THAT YOUR DAD WASTED THAT HE COULD HAVE USED TO BUY MORE THINGS FOR YOU TO BLOW UP!

TERRIBLE!

I set my 16.5 time using an FSB of 431 (i think), with an nLited copy of XP and a memory FSB of DDR1075. I think nLited XP netted me about 2 seconds, the high FSB may have got me between 0.5 and 1 seconds, and the memory FSB got me between 0.5 and 1 second extra.
On the subject of TDP's...

My Quad puts out 105w of heat, a G0 Quad will put out 95w with 4x 2.4 GHz cores, and 2 sets of 4 MB cache. People spend up to £40 on air coolers to cool these babies, and spend £150 on Water Cooling for just the CPU, and i've seen nutters spend almost £500 on Phase Change systems.

An 8800GTX puts out 176w of heat, and yet most people who overclock use either the stock cooler, maybe a £30 air cooler, and sometimes a block to add into a water-cooling system.

He probably got used to that by now anyway.

Ah, alright. Yeah, I was into the ol' silent PC thing up to about 6 months ago. I had an Antec P180 case to make it silent, some good quiet fans and a silencer on the video card. But it just makes it so much harder to keep the temps down. When I found out that my college dorm wouldn't have A/C I freaked out. So that's when I transitioned from a minimalist, silent, black cube, to the case I have now with some high-speed fans... and it's a good thing too, cause even this new setup gets VERY hot on hot days. I have found, however, that the extra noise isn't that bad. Sure its not "quiet" but when you are watching TV, or playing any games, or watching a movie, you don't hear it at all. And even when you're just working in silence its not that bad. It's just nice to know that if it's hot out and I need to encode something or do something very system intensive, I can crank the fans up to 100% (quite loud, but keeps it pretty cool.)

I'm only gonna go to water cooling when I really have the money to do it right (AKA spend upwards of $200 on a good system.) Until then, I'm fine with the air.
I didn't pay for this Reserator, so i'm in no position to complain. Silent computing rocks, and i don't think i could replace this without spending out for a new case (Coolermaster need to die. 80 mm is a crap fansize for noise!) and grabbing lots of new fans.

Frankly for all the plans i have of upgrading my PC i can't see my doing it for several years. I wanted a new gfx card simply because my current one was dieing, and i've just got easily the most 1337 peice of hardware i could dream of. I want 4 GB of RAM, and a new keyboard, and a bigger monitor, but frankly it plays LFS maxxed, and LFS, the odd bit of SupCom (which i'm sure i can max, maybe even add AA) and then maybe Crysis/CoD4 or whatever and so i don't need to worry.

I know the feeling

your PC is very similart to mine...i don't see the need of upgrading it...do you? It runs vista stupidly smooth, unlike my laptop, never jams, runs all games, you cant really complain.

I thought you only had a crappy E2140 @ 3ghz that obviously needed upgrading?

...and I thought you were selling the computer to 'fund' your next little toy.

E2140...i've put it back to 2Ghz, i don't support overclocking poor little Dual core chips...wait till i get my QX6850 for christmas....and some immense watercooling for my BIrthday in May, then i'll come back to overclocking. BUt wait till some new games come out next year, then i'll talk about a new graphics card.
lol ajp71, he didn't even notice lol
Hang on you've just said that your PC is fine as it is and doesn't need upgrading and 2 posts later your planning on getting Daddy to buy you a processor that cost more than my computer?

I really don't think you've grasped the concept of money yet, there are far better things to spend the £400 that a good quad would leave in your pocket on
