Adding to everything everyone is saying, but seeing it on both sides, I have this to say about it all. When it all comes down to it, there are sim junkies, no issue there, and there are purist's, no harm with them either.
The problem I am see'ing is the fact that some people want LFS to stay the same, on an even keel. Others want to see big power cars and hardcore drifting with smoke lasting forever. Didn't EA just release a new NFS title? Why not get your 200+mph fix from that? LFS is all about class racing.
I got a hold of a tweak program not long ago and drove a 400bhp LX6, tried my road setup on the XRT with a 3 liter "stroker" bottom end on the base motor, basically a detuned XR GTR engine.
But, when it comes down to it, balancing all the roadcars to one class via penalty weight and air restriction, it gets interesting having all drivetrain and engine platforms represented on the track at once.
I say if you are going to make a tweak/value mod program, why not set it up to balance car classes so they are at a higher performance level, ie; bring the XF----XR classes up to the FZ50 spec. It would add more of a sence of realism to add weight to the lower power cars when the engine is improved to keep the handling advantage to a minimum. Of course run the highest performance tire possible around the class as a balance, ie; normal tires due to XFG not having access to road super.
If the tweak is only used offline when your in singleplayer, class racing at a higher pace can improve driver skill to an extent with the higher need to keep your heavy foot in check, and your approach into tight corners more cautious. Nagotiating a field of even 10 cars that are all running 200+bhp and normal tires on fern bay club is a crazy 5 lap sprint in and of itself. How would this be with 20 cars and all of them running 400+bhp?
I am not a programmer but, is there any way we can work toward a more progressive tweak that is more about improving driver skill while having some fun? Of course set aside the ability to take a pre set BF1 with 5 zillion bhp or whatever they need, and a XRT drag car. But it would make the high bhp guys work with whats available rather than comparing times of cars that are probably no where near similar in the tune of the performance.
Can the progression of tweak be productive? Can we work toward a more balanced way of modification? The dev's didn't intend for the community to do this or they would have given us the program, so why not consider the fact that we payed for this sim because it was better than all the rest, not for the fact that it can be modified with tweak's. (I know some bought the game for the tweak, but thats only a few)
Can tweak progress or will it just get left behind like some of the other idea's that have been introduced and then milked for all they are worth on other sims?
Just my two penny's.
