WTH is that anyway? Essentially, racing is about keeping slip angles to a minimum (given that you're trying to go as fast as possible), while drifting is about keeping slip angles as high as possible. Where does this "drift-racing" fit into that?
the main thing with the drifting technique is the fact you can go around much narrower corners with greater speed then with the normal racing technique.
also in the rallysport and dirtoval racing (which is a huge field) drifting is THE way to success. so don't look at this kind of racing from the narrow view of a closed mind circuit racer...
They don't drift for show or for points on dirt-ovals and in rallying, it's necessary due to the low-grip surface. The idea in both of those sports is exactly the same as tarmac racing - finish as fast as you can. Noone's saying drift is useless and should be avoided, just that it has its place.
Didn't see anything about this alleged "drift-racing" in that wiki either.
but yes, you can somehow utilize drifting in racing. but DRIFTING the SPORT is all about stunt driving and showing off your car control. in no way is is competitive of speed.(high speed drifting to show off car control but they are not trying to achieve efficiency)
So, by that description, finishing first/having the lowest time does not win, so it is not racing (although speed is an element, that is not enough to meet the definition of racing).
Also, it should be noted that even in rallying you should try to minimise your sliding as too much is (not very surprisingly) slower. For tight corners (irrespective of grip) the traditional racing technique is not the fastest method, I agree.
