Quote from Fischfix :drift-racing is a form of racing.

WTH is that anyway? Essentially, racing is about keeping slip angles to a minimum (given that you're trying to go as fast as possible), while drifting is about keeping slip angles as high as possible. Where does this "drift-racing" fit into that?
Going fast with furiously outrageous slides.

fact is in the real world (you know the one off from your computer) there are A SHIT LOAD of real drift-racing leagues.

just to open your horizon...

the main thing with the drifting technique is the fact you can go around much narrower corners with greater speed then with the normal racing technique.

also in the rallysport and dirtoval racing (which is a huge field) drifting is THE way to success. so don't look at this kind of racing from the narrow view of a closed mind circuit racer...

jesus...

edit: and read that wiki article at least...
They don't drift for show or for points on dirt-ovals and in rallying, it's necessary due to the low-grip surface. The idea in both of those sports is exactly the same as tarmac racing - finish as fast as you can. Noone's saying drift is useless and should be avoided, just that it has its place.

Didn't see anything about this alleged "drift-racing" in that wiki either.
Afaik, drifting and figure skating has more in common than drifting and racing.

And this wasn't "you all drifters are faggots" -posting...

lol, drift-racing, oxymoron...

but yes, you can somehow utilize drifting in racing. but DRIFTING the SPORT is all about stunt driving and showing off your car control. in no way is is competitive of speed.(high speed drifting to show off car control but they are not trying to achieve efficiency)
Hey, the wormz get out of teh can! stuff them back in plz, kthxbai!
I'm no drift-basher.

That wiki article describes it quite clearly:

Quote from wiki :
Drifting competitions are judged based on line, angle, speed, and show factor. Line involves taking the correct line, which is usually announced beforehand by judges. The show factor is based on multiple things, such as the amount of smoke, how close the car is to the wall, and the crowd's reaction. Angle is the angle of a car in a drift, Speed is the speed entering a turn, the speed through a turn, and the speed exiting the turn; faster is better.

So, by that description, finishing first/having the lowest time does not win, so it is not racing (although speed is an element, that is not enough to meet the definition of racing).

Also, it should be noted that even in rallying you should try to minimise your sliding as too much is (not very surprisingly) slower. For tight corners (irrespective of grip) the traditional racing technique is not the fastest method, I agree.
