A wide range of viewpoints (no pun intended), and this seems to be far less fervent than the main discussion thread that appeared when the option did.
The view into any gameworld is a tricky thing to regulate. On the one hand we're all using the same software, but on the other we're all using a wide range of devices to draw that view (your GFX card) and very wide range of devices to show that view (your monitor). The options LFS has add more variation to the pot.
The realism argument can be taken to stupid extremes: If we limit the view to cockpit mode, then we should also limit it to no hands and no wheel if you're using a wheel (you don't see two sets of hands in real life, unless you're from the Fens) but force them on if you're using a keyboard or mouse. In fact, you don't control real cars with a keyboard or mouse, so lets ban those drivers. While we're at it, we'd best not use any of the cars that aren't real, and none of the tracks are real anyway, so we'd best forget it and go and have a nice cup of tea and a sit down.
As Sam's already stated, there's far more things we can look into before Forced Cockpit View. You can all rest assured that if/when the issue comes up for discusssion then it'll be approached with you, the racers, in mind. The CTRA is about good, clean, fun racing and long may it be that way, whichever way you look at it.
