Better vision in tin-tops
Lately I've been going "damn, I can't see the apex" quite a few times. The problem was the a-pillar that - mostly in South City - blocked the view from the turn-in point to the apex and big parts of the track completely.

I know there could be quick fixes like use chase-view (hahaha), change FOV or sitting positions - but this will also change perception in a negative way. I mean, there's a reason why you choose this many degrees of FOV and so on.

In real life you'd simply tilt or turn your head a bit... or not even: you have two eyes and they reduce the blind spot to a certain degree.

So now to the suggestion: make the a-pillars transparent. Not the whole pole - real life pillars do limit the view in real life too. Just make like the outer 3rds or 5ths transparent. I think it'd would help a lot.
-1.

It was almost impossible to see out of the Yaris in the driving school (had to move the head all the way to the side window or to the centre of the car). It's not as bad but still quite bad in the Punto (1st gen) i drive today.
Quote from Bandit77 :wow. looks good on the screen... but consider the fact that you move your eyes away from the screen. I think this ends in headache.

You don't have to move your head that much. It's an axle you can ajust. Here is an other movie with someone using Freetrack in LFS: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l8K-wo_QWBY

I'd like to see rollcages (read more of a visual block) in all cars
Nto being able to see is just part of a cars charm. Just look at Lambos, they have no rear visibility at all.
But, if your head is free enough to minimise that obstruction to your view in real life then perhaps it's something LFS should take into consideration.

When I take a left turn in my car, I can't see shit of what's coming. Because I look up to the A-pillar, there is nothing I can really do about it. That's what makes inside view more realistic, it simulates a bit of the real life visual obstructions you get from sitting inside a car.
Can you not move your head when you drive? Lengthen your HANS straps
Look function to steer anyone?
Grah, steer look makes me motion sick
Still, there already is a solution to it, and a quite logical one at that too... Whether you like it or not is up to you...
By the way, how is steer look a solution?
The A-pillar is not moving away just because you rotate your head

You actually need a 6DOF TrackIR so you can look around the pillar.
The solution - use chaseveiw
Hush hush, out of this thread!

bah, I wonder how some people drive in real life. my girlfriend has a roadster with a damn low windshield. the rearview-mirror makes it impossible for me to see the road when there's a right turn ahead (also because the mirror is so close to my head). solution when I want to go quicker: I remove the mirror.

but usually moving your head a bit is enough to get a sufficent view "behind" any A-pillar

ehmmm... I need to see the apex before I steer.

I do move my head, but it keeps getting in the way, there is one turn around where I live where I always notice it very badly? Really annoying actually, and no matter what I do I can't look nexto it.

And I have the same problem with the mirror (not even a roadster, far from). And the fact you say "remove the mirror" really makes me wonder how YOU drive in real life

Now we only need tristan and it`s all set for a :bananadea

(And no offence Tristan, your a nice lad, we just have different veiw on stuff )

Now, I`ll run and you other stay topic.

Edit : Yeah, it describes how is it to be me. One against you all, damn!

Are you really, really short? I don't wish to be so intrusive and personal, but I just can't visualise how you would have to look up to an A-pillar.

I have to say that in over twenty years of driving, in various cars and vans, I can't think of a single moment when an A-pillar has been irredeemably obstructive. A recent survey showed that a third of all 'targets' went unseen by drivers, because of the A-pillar. However, this figure was significantly reduced if the driver could be arsed to move his head.

There's a lesson there....
I'm actually kinda tall, and I look against the A-pillar if that's any better.
And I do move my head, but it's a really annoying corner, I can bang my head against the window and maybe see something, or I could go hang over my steering wheel
I dunno why, but it only happens in that specific corner, it's the only time I'm bothered by it
