At the end of the blackwood straight in round 1, someone attempted to pass me by taking the inside line. We were about equal through the turn. At the corner exit we were still side by side and I used the run off area while the car inside of me went from the inside all the way to the edge of the track (where his left tires were at the edge of the track near the runoff area). Well, the runoff area is fairly short there and I quickly found myself in a situation where the runoff area was ending and I had no where to go. I tried to get my right side wheels on the track but the other car was there and we made slight contact and I wound up going in the grass and losing a bit of time. My other option would be to brake and let him and another car pass and dive back onto the track.
What's the right thing to do in this situation? Should I not have used the runoff area? Had I not used it he would have had a harder time passing but I thought I would prevent contact by giving him more room. I'm technically not off the course correct? So it is his responsibility to give me room to come back on?
