I must defend the mods. I once started a thread in the off-topic section which turned pretty much pointless on the second page, so one of the mods (and IIRC it was Bob himself) who closed the thread. I PM'd him, asking why it was closed and he said that the thread was useless but he is willing to reopen it if I have something interresting to post. I didn't, I was just curious. Anyway, I thanked him and everything was ok.

i agree that in all honesty the mods do let people get way with alot and should be more strict, but it also depends on the moderator, everyone moderates differently, i think the easiest thing to say is that if you dont like it then dont use it in the politest posible sence

Most of the time threads do get pointless. Like someone will thread about LFS Races and 12 pages down they will be having there own conversation not even related to the thread lol

Ive said my other thread became or was pointless but dosnt give "people" the right to go bashing and hating...geeze...isnt lfs suppose to be about community and freinds...guess i came for the wrong reasons. You guys take the dang forums more seriously then the actully game.

Yes some forums are pointless and noone cares about them..But maybe to the person who threaded didnt think so. Or maybe they miss worded there thread or accidently posted in wrong area god forbid. lighten the frig up guys..It is only a forum. If I knew asking a question was going to bring so much hostility I might as well became emo and cut myself and asked "Why Why Why".

And you said I should have contacted a mod, Maybe i didnt want to, Maybe i wasnted to ask my fellow racer what they thought (which i can see now was a bad idea) Now most likely 20 pages more down im gunna be bitched at and then 10 more down ill be told I should be locked and 5 more down told this is a pointless thread...Well waaa deal with it. Life is pointless..We work, sleep, eat then die..

When the first post is pointless, it just spawns more pointless posts. It's the law, can't be helped. It's a snowball effect really, coupled with a bit of Murphy's Law.
The way you type might encourage some of us too, also can't be helped. But you can trust the mods to be unaffected by these things.

I think you've got a gross misunderstanding of how a conversation evolves. There is no problem here with a conversation starting off on topic and then slightly drifting off. There is only an issue with what is complete and utter crap.

It's a case of finding a fine line between making the forums easy to use and allowing free reign. It's not an easy thing to hit, but I seriously believe that things are pretty easy going here, with the exception of the improvement suggestions forum (which admittedly people do tend to jump down your neck). To give you an idea, the LFS forums have been running since about September 2005. This is roughly a 1000 days. Using the moderation log and doing some guestimating somewhere between 500 and 800 threads have been closed. This is less than one a day.

If the thread was in the wrong place, and not blantent shit it will be moved. More threads are moved daily than are closed. This is a simple fact.

Yes it's allowed, but if it's such a problem why on earth didn't you ask at that time?! I'll happily reopen any thread if it's suitable, or was mistakenly closed, within a few days of it being closed. Several months later gives you no ground to stand on.

You didn't ask anyone what they thought in your thread, other than for ego stroking. You made a statement and then wanted everyone to say "you are teh aw3s0rmssasd!!! I want ur babies". If everyone made a statement when they logged in, on a Monday morning, then finding anything of any use (i.e. someone who needs help with X, Y or Z) would be impossible.
