I was actually looking forward to this race because I love the competition that you can get in the UF1. Before I go on any further, I want to thank Karolis[LT] and (V)J.Pickard directly for the good racing we had. That was fun! Thanks guys! Also, thanks to Pickard for getting on MSN to let me know the race was starting......one hour earlier than advertised.
Now, on to a lot less pleasant comments. First of all, this "race" was organized (well, not really) by a guy with 50 finished races. How in the hell do you, AW06, think that you had the experience to put on something like this? Allow me to point out a few things (many that have been already listed) that turned this race into an epic failure:
1) Information - the OP states the following:
Yet, somewhere in the 5 pages and 150 posts, you change the time to an hour earlier, presumably, because your Pace Car driver, who didn't know what the hell he was doing, obviously couldn't be in the server as long as needed. Who are you putting this race on for, anyway?
2) Server & qualifying management: You had 21 or so sign-ups (not sure where that was listed, btw), and you decided to put people on two servers, with different passwords. Then, 3 minutes before the qual session ended, you tell people to move over to server 1. When we get there, you have no idea what to do. I asked if the qualifying session from server 2 would count, and you had no friggin' clue. You were asking everyone else what to do. Eventually, we did another 10 minute qualifying session, which was fine. Shortly after that ended, the server crashed. Tried to get back on...wrong password. Why the hell was the password changed??? And why the hell did we go back on a server that just crashed??? Anyway, once people got back on the server, we went through that whole "what are we going to do, set the grid or random grid or whatever" thing. Did you bother to get a screen shot or replay of the *cough* second *cough* qualifing session? I know it's 2 hour race, but good God, that organization was pathetic.
3) Rules: You say that you used IGTC rules. I've raced in IGTC, and I've even helped DeadWolfBones with some of the IGTC rules, so I'm pretty sure I know what they are. I didn't bother to read the rules, because I know how to race...after 13 years of racing karts, 3 years of managing a kart series, 4+ years of racing in LFS with over 141,000+ miles in 4900+ races, and 1-1/2 years of co-managing the League of the Americas, I think I know how to race. My question to you is....did YOU read the rules???
4) Chatting: There were people chatting all over the place...it was annoying as hell. And while I have to give it to the TG guys for "getting around the chat rule" (which, btw, AW06, is still a violation of the rules), seeing those guys change names every 30 seconds was annoying.
5) Safety Car: You get someone to drive the Safety Car that has no idea what he is doing, and is pressed for time, so I assume that was more pressing to his attention that the actual race. I had no problem with Safety Car deployment, although I suspect the reasons for a Safety car deploy was because someone rolled his car, which should have just been a spectate situation. The problem I had, along with the Merc guys apparently, was that the Safety Car didn't pick up the leaders at a typical place (i.e. in T1??). But noooo, pick 'em up in T4 after we had already passed the car once. Then, we followed the Safety Car around for a lap. I needed to get some fuel, and the Safety Car hadn't pulled off, so I figured I had a lap to get my fuel and catch back up. Nope...going in to T1, the Safety Car goes off into the sand, and the Merc guys took off, as they assumed they could. No message from the admins about green flag or anything. Whatever, I got back out, and went back to work. Then, about 10 minutes later, another Safety Car was called...I don't even remember if they even picked up the leaders. Stupid really.....the Merc guys got upset, and righfully so. They leave. Trust me, I felt like doing the same, but after spending 100 minutes of my life on this, I wanted to see it to the end. After that point, the admins and the other drivers displayed a complete lack of respect for those still racing by continuing to chat. On top of that, AW06 came onto the track and almost made me crash at the end of the back straight. Unbelieveable.
This was the worst organization I have ever seen in an event. Please, Mr. AW06, do not put on any more events.
Name changing every 30 seconds is just exaggerating. We only changed them once or twice when we needed to. We tried to keep as much conversation as possible between those not currently racing to MSN. If I had a mic, I probably would have been on Teamspeak, but I don't have one.
I would like to add one thing I forgot to mention. I wasn't completely sure what to do (I was a marshal). Should I intervene and use /rcm freely or not? Should I give penalties to those who violates rules? And when the SC was deployed 2nd time, I went into a shock when everyone overtook everyone (Couldn't do anything. Admin was driving a car, so no point to ask on teamspeak [Had to use text-messages in teamspeak because my wife went to bed earlier]). Well, somehow racers managed to do it pretty good, because they ended into racing order behind the SC.
I was too kind to /spec talkers. Didn't wanted to irritate someone. Who knows: He can revenge to me on CTRA-server. But if the rules says "no talking", it means "no talking". Only lines I said was notifications for blue flag -violations (And in the end couple of lines when I tried to calm the racers).
You spinned couple of times, but you should see me driving! Only place I am good at is CTRA Bump & Jump, and only because others haven't (Well, some have) studied the layouts.
Thank for good fights at the begining. I despair of finishing race then i heared a door bell, my parents come back and i had to let in . Thank John Holme who took over and helped me to run race.
I complaint of [TG] Hammond who was in chicane and runed to me. Next time look around if there is no cars. In result N.Robinson cought me and we had a contact, i was pushed and had contact with wall and i rolled... SC helped me and i race on.
Also, I used default set-up but I was wayyyy off the pace....10 seconds in fact - what gap would you expect from using good set-up and default at this track/car combo, just so Ii know quite how bad I am
I think banshee56 already said everything. Oh, one more thing: why on Earth didn't we used the qualify results of the last qualify? Niko had them, it was only a matter of 2min and everyone would had their grid position.
I started at the back of the grid, had a little fight with dougie-lampkin, and after some laps timed out. Got back just for the sake of racing but had to quit because of guests.
Anyway, thanks for trying to organize the event, I appreciate the idea. But please try to set everything BEFORE the race next time.
Really?..... well i agree with banshee on what he posted. Safety car was a joke, people should of pitted right away if they can't get back on there wheels again (there should of been no safety car when your racing a uf1 ffs).
Enough of the complaining i knew the organization was going to be a joke since how long he has been in lfs. The race was fun at some times when coming up on people infront off me battling for the place which was to easy to take, got past banshee for 2nd then pulled a little gap on him then started to pull in paulc2k at a slow race (1h 12 minutes so needed to kill time).
Got to give banshee some credit for keeping up with me for a long time since his pace was not good when catching him but after the first safety car it went tits up from there and banshee lost about 13secs when he pitted because of safety car going in the sand trap at t1 so i got past Paul pulled a gap and wanted to give the time banshee lost in the pits so me and Paul traveled around so banshee can get his time back he losted.
10 laps later someone else rolled it which brought another safety car out and after the group caught the safety up he pulled into the pits without no warning he was going to do that and pulled the green flag out 4 secs to late (yes another ****ing big cockup), so after to many screw ups Paul left later followed by me.
Final thought...... total cocked all round to let the [TG] take the piss big time with about 8 name changes altogether (rough guess but don't give a ****).
Actually, I had no buiseness being there at all. I read the forum about race too late, and just joined to see if I could sneak into a 'look-see' ?
I joined and kept silent watching and race had started 30 min earlier.
I couldn't help crack a smile once in a while.
When something aparrently happened to Karolis ( he parked car on bridge ) I got the idea to 'take over' his car, as he clearly didn't use it.
After 10 - 15 min. I handed it back and stayed for the rest of the race and had a really good time ( entertaining ) watching and chatting ( Sorry for that, but I could not resist as evrything seemed to go amiss, so who cared ? )
I'll give THUMBS UP to organizer, and say : Keep trying, you did at least give it a go, and I'll gladly join your races even if they turn out like this, it was a new experience and a fun time.
Did we have fun ? I never one moment got annoyed and even played 'Admin' trying to stop the namecalling.
Keep up the ... eeeh, good work !
