That´s the point. Everybody can afford a wheel, the thing is that life is about priorities. If your priority is not playing LFS with steering wheel (what is nice) is your own decission, but don´t complain if mouse is removed because you decided that wasn´t your priority
Harder? Mouse users can´t miss gears, doesn´t do heel and toe, countersteer is 10x faster than wheel, they only use one a hand instead of two arms and two legs... man, you can use a hand for the mouse and the other one for snuggle your balls. Is that hard?
The only thing I really dislike is the button clutch crap, thats exploiting an unrealistic "feature" and should be removed from LFS anyway, but I doubt Scawen will ever do so.
//on topic:
I don't care what kind of controller other driver is using when racing, I'm not even checking that stuff. If LFS didn't had the possiblity of using all kinds of controllers I think many of us would have never bought LFS in the first place (including me).
In the end of the day I want a good close race with the people on the server (which I can have will all kinds of controllers) and not a hotlap WR...
Don´t misunderstand me. You have a list of priorities in your life and you make them in the order you want. If mouse players has LFS/Wheel in the end of that list, is not my fault
Of course buying my G25 was not the first thing I wanted to do in my life, but once I did all the previous things I needed/wanted, the turn for the wheel arrived
You're an idiot...not everyone can afford a wheel...I'm sure a lot of people, including myself, find that if they really wanted to they could purchase a wheel but have far more important things to do like pay off dept or pay bills. Anyone in their right mind would pick being financially responsible over spending some wad of cash on a game controller...
Woah woah guys, nobody's here talking about removing the mouse from LFS, that's apsurd, but we gotta agree that mouse can't be the best controller for 70 % of cars in LFS.. It's simply isn't fair and realistic...
The way i imagine the support for mouse and KB should be, is like you tried to drive your real car like that... Have you watched that Mythbusters episode where they drive the car remotely, that's what i'm talking about. There were various strings and what not atached to the steering wheel and the pedals, and they drove the car on the remote control... So, it was possible, but certainly not more drivable then a man driving it normaly, with a steering wheel... and that's the way it should be in LFS... like, really hard to be good at anything other than steering wheel...
What isn't fair is that the "haves" are placed at a disadvantage. A sim that supposedly promotes realistic driving punishes those who use the most realistic settings. There is no way for us to get a level playing field.
That one in mythbusters still had to "wind' the wheel around so was really nothing like the way a joypad/mouse works in LFS. And the little girl beat those guys anyway, (RC Champ).
The only way to make it harder is limit the turn rate so that it isn't faster than a human can wind a wheel while driving. But when you let go of the wheel, it shoots back pretty fast to centre, so alot of things would have to be considered.
I use PS3 pad, and I personally wouldn't like it much if the delay was slowed down. But, what can I say? I drive chase view as well so I have no moral grounds for an opinion here I guess.
This discussion is moot. Flogging dead horses have become a common theme in this forum.
Well wah, you might as well say that the shoes in runner x are lighter than the shoes of runner y, therefore it gives runner y an unfair advantage. It isn't like mouse users (me, for example) have some kind of speed boost. Hey, I'd be glad to have a wheel over this mouse I have... throttle control, precise, etc etc. Stop nit-picking on stupid crap like this, everything has disadvantages and advantages over other things.
Did you read what the mouse users who replied to this post said about the difficulties of using the mouse...or did you just read the first post and reply?
There are a few who are talking about removing the mouse...and then there are some who are stating that the mouse isn't fair...
I tried driving with the mouse last night and couldn't do it very well....it was pretty difficult to complete a full lap and carry a decent speed because you have no feedback at all or variable inputs other than steering...I'm sure after some practice I would get better but like with anything, practice makes 'perfect'....I can pick up a wheel and drive way better than I can with a mouse with way less practice because it is more 'natural'...
Edit,
Thank you! I agree that this is a 'moot' point and that most of the discussion in, on, around and on top of LFS is very redundant...probably due to the fact that there's been no new stuff for people to complain and nitpick about...heh
this thread is redicilous imo, just to show people that you hate mousedrivers as i see here, so you have done you're mission, i feel now quilty and shamed to be a mousedriver(and not even a fastone)...
I agree that mouse driving shouldn't be easier then driving with a wheel.
But there is absolutly no proof for your 70% statement.
(I told you to maybe check the hotlap charts)
Maybe I miscounted 1 or 2 but there are 940 possible WRs
and only ~ 117 are made by mouse drivers.
If I not calculated that completly wrong then:
That's just ~12,4% of the WR's that were made with the mouse
And most of them are made by the same few people (which are "alien drivers" or just specialists in their cars) in the same cars (XFG,UF1 and Palluka also made some in the FZ5 and XRR).
If we say that they were mostly done in the same 3 to 5 cars then that's just
15% up to 25% of the cars that are maybe easier to drive with the mouse.
That's definitively not the majority of cars in LFS.
But then all of the WRs in these cars would be made by mouse drivers which is not the fact.
So I still say it's not a big deal atm.
What I think would be a more interesting statistic is what percentage of WR by wheel drivers have there wheels setup for 200deg rotation and 25% force feed back. In my opinion that is pretty much a mouse setup with ffb And if that percentage was high [no way of knowing] then the argument still stands.
I tried an experiment with our little dog. It's pretty close, but she seems to do a bit better with the wheel, but we have to narrow the range to about 90 degrees, and turn off the force feedback, since she only steers with one paw and has to use her other paw for the throttle / brake controller (it's one from a flight type control setup). We put velcro on both to make it easier for her. Plus a special pillow for the seat so she's at just the right height.
She still isn't good with a real car yet, (don't be too impressed, I have to operate the pedals, she only does the steering), mostly because she is easily distracted, taking her eyes off the road to bark at other dogs nearby, and worse yet she still keeps trying to run over the local neighborhood cats. Here's a link to a picture of her just before a short cruise:
I've been a mouser for about, 3 years now, and I tried using a wheel about a 1 and a half ago, and just could not do it. I can't race with a wheel, I'm no where near as fast as I am with a mouse. My team mates would be hating on me when I would kick their ass, and it would do it quite often with a mouse, then switch over to the wheel, and I was 4 seconds down a lap on them.
Duhh mouse is faster? i didint know that yet even tho im one of the fastest mouse drivers in lfs i think. Simply put mouse is not faster then wheel, i find it quite amazing how some people think it is.
Sure i do drive faster with mouse then 99% of lfs drivers but it has nothing to do with the fact that i drive with mouse. I used to drive lfs with wheel for like 2.5 yeas from 2002 to 2005 and some people might remeber that i wasnt exactly slow with wheel either...
