The online racing simulator
Ah. Grr, I actually wanted to try the mods because the logitech demo stinks.. The physics are horrible.

I wonder which I should get? rFactor forever or iRacing for 2 months. :P

Thanks for the quick reply though.
I downloaded this yesterday. It took forever, curse slow internet!

I own GTL so it installed no problem. The menu screens confused me a little bit to begin with but soon got used to it.

On the track it's quite good. Much improvement over GTL itself handling wise. Only took a couple of cars out on a few tracks (Lotus Cortina and Ford Escort RS2000) and I was actually disappointed with the sounds, they clipped like buggery. Yes I know those old cars were no doubt very loud but still, they seemed very overkill.

On a whole though, it wasn't too bad. I'll have another butchers at it tomorrow and try some other cars out.

Niko, if you read the .pdf it came with (or even the RFC page) you'll see why you need the GTL disc.
We've said that lots of times, including the main info on rfactorcentral. You could have known!

I'll check the RFC page

EDIT: So basically i just wasted my goddamn bandwidth to download this bloody mod which doesnt even work without having a bloody disk. How Great!

I had a look at the link and to be honest the first thing I saw was that you needed a GTL disk.
Go buy GTL then
Quote from LFSn00b :Sorry, i do not usually read the descriptions and such, i only watch the rating, images and download links

Sounds like your method has brought you to an impasse. In the meantime you might find insight in this.
I'd guess GTL doesn't cost much nowadays, maybe 10€?

Don't be a cheapstake, it's probably 5 pounds per copy in the bargain bin now.

Bying GTL for Getting Historic GTTC mod is like buying an old game with cheap price and getting a very much better new game with it.
HistoriX is so good really.

My friend took his computer here and we had some LAN playing. This mod is frigging awesome, we have raced few good races with AI, with all Fords and then we tried out that Coppa series or what it was called... Track full of little Fiat's racing is like one of the funniest races I have had.
I'm kinda sorry to say but when in LAN connection rFactor + HistoriX mod is way more fun than LFS because AI can give us some challenge.

Just buy a copy of GTL for this mod, I did and I'm not disapointed, far better use of a tenner than a months iRacing
After some time I still love this Historic Touring car mod.

But I have one question. Would it be possible for me to have a permission to do new sounds for the Lotus Cortina?

I have a good source for real sounds of Lotus engine, I maybe could be able to make it sound more proper that it does now. Actually I'm pretty sure I could do that.

Hahaha, I wondered why it kept crashing on me, I can't be bothered reinstalling GTL however, think I'll stick to the Corvette
You don't need to have GTL installed. Just it's disc on the DVD-station, while installing the mod.
Niels,

Is that Real Feel you're using in the Epsilon video? After installing rFactor on my new system I can't seem to get rid of a serious deadzone when the wheel is centered. Your wheel (in game) looks as if it is moving fluidly through dead center, while mine has a noticeable pause before it continues on to the other side. It is also very unresponsive around the center. I've fiddled with just about every setting, including sensitivity and deadzone, and can't seem to get it feeling right.

That's because the car in Niel's video is physically completely different in every way, i.e. he rewrote the physics model for it. The modder's won't let him release the new physics though.

Now I've tried the Historix mod I must say that I am Ultra Mega impressed, the cars break away more gradually, and you can feel this through the wheel, allowing you to administer the correct amount of opposite lock, not like the 79 mod, which even with realfeel I end up swapping ends or over correcting into a wall, meaning I have to creep out of corners with virtually no power, with the Historix mod i can hang the tail out of corners as much as I like!

If I was running an rFactor mod team, I would certainly not hesitate to ask Niels to do the physics!

Well, not the model, just the numbers that go into it. The in game steering wheel should be 1:1 with the correct settings and matching rotation, even with the crappiest of mods
Right, i guess my question wasn't related directly to the new Epsilon physics so much as rfactor in general. Niels has been quite helpful before regarding steering setup so I figured he might have a quick answer about my deadzone. As he says it shouldn't be mod-specific, so I'll reinstall real feel and check my settings again... see what happens.

And of course, looks like great work on the rework Niels.

(Your quote but question for Niels of course...) Why is it so? jealousy or something to do with the license got from Epsilon? I mean, modding and also modding someone else's work is the reason why the whole game exists.

Just people being idiots I guess, just another example of red tape in sim racing, I know so many ways that sim racing could be a lot more fun (games such as N2003 especially), if there wasnt all the red tape and idiots in the way.
Actually I wouldn't want to release ''physics'' for existing cars, because the whole problem with rFactor is that there are too many mods and too many versions of mods and tracks. Online is a nightmare. If I'd release something new for an existing mod, the online situation would get even more nightmareish as half use my version and the other half the original version.

Plus, since making my own cars, (I really dislike 'mods' and 'physics'.. lets say cars.. ) I'd hate it for some wiseguy to spend 20 mins changing the grip levels or engine power and releasing it as an 'upgrade', when I've spend 100+ hours trying to get where I am.

If I don't want people to change my cars (there is no way I can stop them though..) I certainly shouldn't be changing other peoples cars and releasing the files!

My opinion is, if you want to 'mod', go make your own mod, not tweak someone elses. And I might actually be involved soonish with a car that laps fast at Le Mans..
Does that mean I'm able to do sound modding for my own, but to not to release it for public?
Ok thanks. I'll ask about it on that forum.
