100% Cocoa chocolate
Anyone eat this?.

I bloody LOVE chocolate, and have been having Lindt 85% cocoa excellence chocolate, because I am diabetic, it's good that high cocoa content chocolate means it doesn't have that much sugar in it.

I went to a specialist chocolate place at the weekend and brought a bar of 100% cocoa chocolate, but it almost tastes foul, is this normal?.

It's just the bitterness of it, it almost tastes like earwax, it's nice once it's started to melt and the earwax taste goes, but I don't think my palette will adapt to the bitterness.

Is this the same for all 100% cocoa chocolate?
Pretty much in my experience. The idea seems to be with beefy chocolate like that, is that it's eaten in really small amounts, over a long period of time. If I have any it's usually with a ridiculously strong and large amount of coffee tbh.
haha I have felt the same way it almost feels like you should never have it it also feels the same eating rich as chocolate

speaking of chocolate Dairy milk FTW

You are sure this chocolate is for eating, and not cooking with ?

The TV Chef types are always banging on about using chocolate with the highest cocoa content you can find in recipes, but do say that the higher the content the more bitter the taste.
Yeah, I can only really take a small amount of it, and yeah, you are right, it does taste better after drinking coffee, however, I wonder if it's to do with having a hot(ter) mouth and it making it melt quicker?.

Yeah Stu, it's defo for eating , think I'll go back to the Lindt 85% one.

As for hot choc, Green & Blacks organic cocoa is where it's at!!!!

£4.50 for a bar of chocolate !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The dark chocolate on my covered coffee beans was pretty bitter, but it went well with the coffee flavour.

In fact, I must contact little sis to obtain some more as she is visiting shortly

And what do you do with it once you've cooked it?

I know what you mean though, I'm not that retarded.
I know, I know, but I had just spent close to £90 on a new pair of running shoes, so it didn't seem too expensive at that time!!!!

Needless to say, I won't be buying it again

I'm not really sure - I've had some 100% cocoa, I forget which brand it was, that was less "rough" tasting than others. But then again I really don't like milky sweet chocolates so maybe our tastes would differ on that.

I also find it can only be enjoyed in very small morsels because of the strong taste - you have to let it sort of sneak up on the rest of your mouth instead of carpet bombing it with a big chunk.
Dan - Whats the name of the chocolate? Because, I'm not sure if you saw it but there was a program on the tele about a guy trying to make 100* Cocoa chocolate called Willies Wonky Chocolate Factory, and he was based about 2 minutes away from me, on an industrial estate that I used to work on.

Just wondered if it was the same stuff really.
I'm not a fan of chocolate these days. I used to get big bars of Galaxy instead of Easter eggs when I was younger because I was smart enough to figure out you got way more chocolate for the money that way

But since I was diagnosed diabetic I obviously cut back. Chocolate tends to give me a headache. Cadbury's tends to be a bit bitter, Galaxy is too sweet, Hotel Chocolat stuff is nice but way too expensive, but they all result in me feeling really unwell.

Haribo have the same result too, but I like fruit-flavoured things a lot more than chocolate
Belgian Chocolate FTW! (also the price:schwitz

Too much chocolate gives me migraine, I'm not the biggest fan of it anyways.

Chewy, fruity things...now your talking.
Midget Gems were the undisputed king of sweets (real ones, not soft ones) until they changed the black ones to blackcurrant flavour. I think sports mixtures are still unaffected.
I used to eat anything and everything, but I find stuff with mint or peanuts are top (outside of quality dark choc).

Reese's peanut butter cups, fry's mint cream, star bars, yum yum, and kit kat did a special edition peanut butter bar a while back, that was awesome.

Needless to say, I can't really eat any of it, but I sometimes treat myself to something like that once a month!!!.

Damn, I hope my missus does the shopping today, if I have to go, I may be sorely tempted after thinking about chocolate all morning!!!!

They do not make food, they make death re-branded as edible goods, don't be fooled by it.
Ooooh a few fellow diabetics here then !

I love dark chocolate, but as it has been already said, it is only enjoyable in small amounts ...

And dont get me started on sweets ... A standard roll of wine guns will last me all of a minute !

All I get from friends is "OMG how can you live without chocolate and sweets !!!1111"

Tbh its not hard, just instead of eating a whole bar of galaxy in one go, eat a few chunks then fridge it for the next day etc.

Sarge.
I find it easier to avoid if it's not there. I keep sweets around in case of hypos, but once I've opened them I find it nearly impossible to stop just fishing some out of the fridge when I'm passing. If they're not there I don't even think about it.

The one thing I do miss is not being able to have honey sandwiches any more. I loved honey sandwiches. You get sugar-free jams now, but not honey. I'm gutted.

The world needs more sugar-free stuff!
St Dalfour jam on a piece of my missus's home made raisan toast, heaven!!!

I could eat these all day, every day, and i'd be happy.... fat, but happy
I don't really like milk chocolate, as I find it far too sweet. Dark chocolate is amazing though, especially the very high cocoa content ones. I got a Green & Black's easter egg this year which was just beautiful.

One of the nicest chocolate things I've had ever is dark chocolate coated coffee beans. Mmmmmmmmm.....
I really love chocolate.. but only the dark kinds. However, once you go above 80% cocoa it gets too much for me. The bitter tastes seem to become more prominent around here.

My favourite is a dark Nestlé chocolate which they sold at Svalbard in 400 gram packages. Can't remember the exact name, but I haven't found it in mainland Norway.
