Quote :Sorry to interupt the jokes, but citiznes owning guns have been stopping robbers, and criminals for decades in america. I get a NRA journal every month and inside there is a section that recalls the stories a people getting robbed in their own house, but the tides turn when they pull out their gun.

I remember Games Workshop publishing an article in their own publication explaining a price increase as being related to a change of material away from lead to the much safer pewter they use now to make their gaming minatures, the article neglected to mention that pewter is cheaper. What would you expect the NRA to publish? Stories like this?

I'm not necessarily against guns personally, I just think if your going to own any kind of weapon then you have to accept that sooner or later you are going to use it, and that when you do so you wont necessarily be acting as sanely and rationaly as you are when replying to a forum post.

I keep a weapon in my house, not a gun, but it's purpose is already mandated. If I get a burglar and elect to fight I will give the weapon to the burglar so that they are armed and I then wont get Terry Martined. Of course I have the option of keeping the weapon for myself should I feel it necessary, or I can elect to remove burglar from the house without using a weapon at all. All are scenario's i'm prepared to accept.

However, I also found myself a few months back reaching for it in a situation when I didnt really need too, I felt threatened and I wanted it handy. That isn't something i'm too comfortable about as i'd gone outside with it.

If you own a weapon, sooner or later you are going to use it. I never carry a weapon out of the house, it's a rule I have to remind myself to follow.
The proliferation of weapons (especially in moron's hands) is a good tool against over-population so i'd say yes

This is why I have to keep all of my weapons in lockable cases (rifles, shotguns and knives [survival, fishing, etc]), just because I know if I didn't I'd end up doing something like that, which is a worrying concept. Hell I even keep my air rifles and BB guns in lockable gun cases just so I don't do anything stupid with them. And I'd hate to ruin a life/sport/whatever because of a badly made split second decision.
Quote from wheel4hummer :Well, that's California for you. They're all bit... nuts.

Bob Cody: Ever hear of Frederick Turner, Mr. Oliver?
Neal Oliver: No, Sir.
Bob Cody: Well, he was an historian. About a hundred years ago he came up with a theory about the frontier. He said the frontier was a safety valve for civilization, a place for people to go to keep from goin' mad. So, whenever there were folks who couldn't fit in with the way things were, nuts, and malcontents, and extremists, they'd pack up and head for the frontier. That's how America got started - all the crackpots and troublemakers in Europe packed up and went to a frontier which became the Thirteen Colonies. When some people couldn't fit in with that, they moved farther west, which is why all the nuts eventually ended up in California.

Situation was somebody was vandalising my house [this is before I moved I was in a high crime area] and I confronted the gang, feeling threatened I went back indoors and upstairs to select one of my available blunt instruments, and returned to the scene of the impending crime. A key wouldnt have slowed me up much, as the decision was made when I felt intimidated by a gang - but in hindsight it was just a comfort thing as I didnt want to fight, if it had come to violence I know exactly how to take on a group like that (pick the biggest and the loudest, hit first, hard, and dont fight fair).

I still live in a high crime area, which is part of the reason for the lockable cases.

But I get where you're coming from, if it was my property I'd end up grabbing the first thing to hand that will even the score.

Sadly Obama dosent see this and wishes to rid of them.

Sorry M8 but Bull%$#t!!

We can have guns in Canada for hunting or recreation. But we are not able to carry hand guns.( You can apply for a special permit for a hand gun for target shooting but they are very restrictive.) If you look at the crime rates for our 2 countries I think you'll agree handguns shouldn't be in everyones hands.
Instead of a good old fist fight, someone will just pull a gun and win everytime(its just not fair).

I am an avid hunter and have guns in my house under lock and key so don't use the "Your just anti gun" Bulls#$%t

If you haven't seen the movie "Bowling for Columbine" you should watch it!! I know it is not a true documentary but it gets the idea accross.
Using a .44 Magnum to kill a mouse must be the American version of using a sledgehammer to crack a nut.
if they can't educate people enough to know how to use them properly then they shouldnt be legal.
