Ferrari's problem for constructor title this year has been that they have drivers who are on opposite extremes of driving characteristic. One driver keeps pushing too hard and doesn't back down even when it would make perfect sense, thus overdriving the car which makes him very inconsistent. Other guy is fast in qualify but way too passive during races and doesn't seem willing to fight for every single point. Another thing I find interesting is that Kimi's car is always very oversteery and twitchy, while Massa has plenty of understeer. It would be very beneficial to have two drivers with same kind of preference on handling.

On top of that, usually team has been very good when it comes to reliability and strategy, but this year that hasn't been the case.
Quote from SamH :I don't see how you can come away from Singapore believing that Ferarri were the strongest unless you've the capacity for some serious delusions.

I don't think my post was delusive.

And you say that Renault was lucky but Williams was the strongest team. But wasn't Williams just as lucky as Renault? Rosberg certainly wouldn't have finished 2nd without the SC. Also, Alonso was faster than Rosberg so Renault was stronger, weren't they?

Looks like we have two different definitions of "strong".
Ferrari had the strongest car.
Renault had the strongest driver.
Renault and Williams had the most luck.
Renault had the best strategy (albeit lucky and depended on their qualifying problem)
Renault took the win.

Therefore I think Renault might have been the strongest overall (that weekend).

Hit the nail on the head
Quote from zeugnimod :But wasn't Williams just as lucky as Renault? Rosberg certainly wouldn't have finished 2nd without the SC.

Erm, Rosberg had to take a 10-second stop-go and still finished second. Yes he was lucky with the timing of the penalty decision (thanks to the Trulli-Train), but he had good pace and kept it quick, consistent, pointing the right way and out of the barriers, which is more than can be said for several other drivers.

Why do people talk about if the safety car hadn't happened? It did, twice, so what's the point in theorising about what would've happened had there been no SC? There's nothing to say Ferrari would have finished 1-2. They might have bungled their pitstops anyway. Or maybe Massa would've lapped everyone except Kimi. It's impossible to say, so it's an irrelevant argument.

Imho, asking which team is "strong" over the race means which team outperformed themselves over the weekend. Williams & Rosberg were "strong" as normally they're down at the back somewhere but performed beyond all expectations. Renault & Alonso were "strong" because normally they're in the midfield, but situations granted them a good opportunity and they had the pace & tactics to take the win. McLaren & Hamilton were not strong, even though they finished third, because we know how fast they can be from previous races and they were slightly underwhelming in Singapore. Ferrari were a clown team this weekend, managing to cock up a pitstop in monumental fashion and both drivers screwing up.
Which makes me really happy

No one has answered my question..
Piquet was in the race. Therefore he crashed and caused the first safety car.

Moreover, it's a case of "which team had most luck with the SC situation, and adapted their tactics to best suit the moment". In this case, it's obvious that it's Renault. Anybody claiming that Ferrari were strong, in the slightest, can be called out on being a blinkered fanboy/fangirl

You are calling out wrong then.

I am by no means a "fanboy" of anybody.

Just having difficulty, here, pairing up the word "strongest" with the words "13th" and "crashed". If it's working for you, buddy, you go for it!
forgetting the main word in the poll. "weekend" the race is about 30% or less of that weekend in racing time.
Alonso where fast in all the practise's, also Rosberg.
They where doing some good laps.
hmmmm
com on hamilton massa is starting to show lol i bet MS is think dam i should of staye on lol!!! but haliton is alright butoon is starting to lose his touch!!!!!!! no!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:bump::heyjoe67_:smileyrai

Very interesting little article from Ted Kravitz on the ITV website http://www.itv-f1.com/Feature. ... =Ted_Kravitz&id=44141

Don't know if anyone mentioned this in the thread, although a few of us did wonder why Hamilton didn't push for 2nd. But, apparently Ron Dennis told him to settle for third, and according to Ted, Lewis was a bit miffed about it.

The commentators at SPEED actually chuckled at Piquet for being so glum during a short interview before the race. It must feel incredibly awful to be his shoes. Career-wise at least. Poor guy.

The crashed one was still classified as 15th!

That's very strong.

LOL @ Conspiracy, it's ridiculous.
It's all relative, right? I certainly wouldn't mind getting paid a few million to absolutely suck at F1 and have my name dragged through the mud... lol

Totally. As things stand I'm getting paid relatively little to get my name dragged through the internets. At least he gets genuine recognition for how much he sucks.

The difference is you might only have a few dozen people saying you suck.

He has literally millions of people saying he sucks.

Of course he doesn't actually suck. I just don't think he'd have ended up in F1 if he was altogether a crappy driver. But there are standards to be met, and those standards are very high in F1.

I wouldn't mind the money though. A few million quid will do nicely. Although I don't think Piquet get paid all that much compared to the other drivers. You'd be lucky to get more than a million Euros as a rookie.
Massa is moaning about the safety car rules, he is asking for them to be changed quickly. I reckon he is just moaning because the Safety Car enabled Alonso to go from 15th to 1st place. He is always moaning, I think he just didn't like it that he didn't finish the GP without any points. the article is on autosport.com/f1

The safety car rule is stupid. Among others Hietfeldt "moaned" about it in the beginning of the season and several have moaned about it since. Personally I find it totally random, it is just luck to not get affected by it but if you do your race is practically over. I'm guessing the fia will keep it though along with the sucky 3 phased fuel-burn quali system because no one likes 'em.
