Quote from dawesdust_12 :... Migz, you will not be able to run wine on your PS3. The architectures are different. PS3 = PowerPC, PC's = x86.

WINE is open source, so you can compile it on ANY arch.

Never tried it, but I doubt that you can run x86 applications on a PowerPC using Wine. I think you would need an emulator to do that.
Quote from Shadowww :Step 1: Install Ubuntu for PowerPC
Step 2: sudo apt-get install gcc cpp make glibc-devel build essential
Step 3: get wine sources
Step 4: compile it
Step 5: enjoy it.

BTW, which GFX card is on PS3?

Is this for me? Or no? (I think no, but not clear.)

Are you simply retarded? The two are entirely different, and without emulating the other architecture, how is the PPC processor going to know what to do when it encounters an instruction that it doesn't know how to do?

I'm sorry, your logic sucks, just because it can be compiled, doesn't mean it will.

Go on WINE site, there says WINE = WINE Is Not Emulator.
But it runs notepad on PS3... Magic?
Are you talking about the notepad.exe that wine comes with? If so, then it'd compile for PPC in the main WINE compilation, else you have no chance. What is it going to do, when it encounters an instruction that it doesn't know what it is, is it gonna go "RAWRRR" and scare the instruction to work?

It's like trying to run Petrol engine on Water... It ain't gonna work.
Quote from winehq.org :Think of Wine as a compatibility layer for running Windows programs. Wine does not require Microsoft Windows, as it is a completely free alternative implementation of the Windows API consisting of 100% non-Microsoft code, however Wine can optionally use native Windows DLLs if they are available. Wine provides both a development toolkit for porting Windows source code to Unix as well as a program loader, allowing many unmodified Windows programs to run on x86-based Unixes, including Linux, FreeBSD, Mac OS X, and Solaris.

I hope that explains it
and further there no relation between Open-Source Software and that possibilty to run it on every hardware.

You would need a true emulator for x86 based computers to run it on a ps3.
Yeah, what he can't comprehend. An emulator such as BOCHS (I think), which emulates a x86 processor is what would be needed, which is slow as ****.

The emulator itself isnt that slow. I emulated windows 98 and that runs pretty quick, probably quicker then it would on my current computer.
Then you haffto stop using a ****ing 386 as a current computer.
