What is this 'cruise' thing?
I bought Live for Speed S2 about a month or so back and I haven't spent much time using it yet as GTR Evolution still takes up all my gaming time. Anyway, I've just stumbled across a site called "www.livetocruise.net" and I'm confused as hell. There's mention of buying cars, police, fines (including refunds thereof) What is it?

I think that question would be answered better at the link you posted above.

Yeah, LFS and cruising don't mix very well at all here. That site will tell you all you need to know.

It's an addon, nothing at all to do with LFS - Online racing simulator.

Well this is it. It doesn't answer the question. Is it a car/track mod? Are the fines and police there as a fun part of the game/mod, or are they actually there to enforce rules? Is it racing or what because there was some mention of robbing something or other? Why would I buy cars?
Edit: I've just read your post garph, Thanks. But I'd like to know more nonetheless
P.S. There isn't a contact address at the site.

Not to be seen as putting one cruise server before another (with PC as it is these days the penalty could well be burn at the stake :schwitz, but I think that this cruise site has a much better explanation. If you're still not sure, just join one and you'll pick it up.(See what I did thar? I was helpful :P)

Sorry to be a pain in the arse, really I am, but here is a quote from the thread...
"There is a speed limit in effect for the entire map, it is currently 62mph/100kmh -everywhere-. This is one of the few flexible rules, as its recommended for everyones safe driving. Officers are able to enforce and fine you for exceeding the speed limit in thier presence."
So is it like a game where the goal is to get away with breaking these rules or am I genuinely pissing of other users if I do?
Oh VoiD, I happen to love shopping with my granny! Although it's grown a little troublesome since the funeral.
Cheers dougie, i'll check that out.
On a further note. People respond damn quickly on this forum so thank you all.

Because they've got nothing better to do...except for me. I have a very interesting preoccupation with listening to the crackling noise coming out of the oven when it cools down
Hello
Cruise is a mod where you begin with UF1, then you win money by driving
There are speed limits but you can go faster The only thing is that cops will chase you and if they catch you they make you pay a fine.
With the money you can buy more cars etc...
Well that are the basic rules

Different cruise servers do different things, but essentially they are the same. Drive within the speed limit to earn money, and drive outside of the speed limit, get super monies but have the chance of being arrested by the [COP]s, who will fine you. And might even kick you if you start deliberately killing other road users.

Cruising is where kids that have no racing ability hang out and talk endless garbage. A glorified chat room with cars if you will.:hide:

Whenever I go on cruise servers, I always literally drive like I do in real life. And then people try passing me in horrible places and I type "you almost ran me off the road!". And after I say that I ask, "Do you drive like this in real life?" To which I get a response of "soz im only 13 i cant drive yet".

Hey! I'm not a hater I love the fact that cruise servers exist.

Anything that keeps people with no driving ability off the proper servers has to be a good thing

IMO, cruising is a distraction from racing, it's like a snack and a meal. Would you want to eat nothing but snacks, or eat a lot of meals?
Cruising (d)evolved from "Cops 'n' Robbers", which was originally some kind of pseudo city layout made from barriers on the autocross track, with some people playing police and other robbers that had to get away from them while navigating the barrier-city. Think NFS Hot Pursuit + city layout + superior driving physics + inferior crash physics. This was quite fun as it required skill from both police and robber to navigate the city fast without crashing and losing/not losing the other. This was sometimes accompanied by role playing traffic and innocent drivers and inventing different reasons for why someone was being chased by the police.

Then someone somewhere had the genius idea to remove the chases (read: fun) and call it cruising. Now you can pretend to make your daily mundane virtual drive to work, stand around a bit and earn virtual cash to buy/repair your virtual car. Sounds exciting, huh?
You obviously know very VERY little about cruise servers then, so i suggest, Shh.
