If there was no end of tournament elimination thing like that, then the people who were down in the bottom part of the table at the final point scoring round wouldn't have a chance to get to the top. It gives everyone a level field of play. The points are for deciding where you'll end up (which will have an unofficial champion after the races), which group you'll go in for the final round, and for the team you'll be in for the soccer tournament.

P.S. Mook only brought in the idea of not exclusively having XRTs because he can't drive RWD

In my definition of the word "league", that's how it should be. You aren't supposed to be able to win the league in the last race when you finished last in all previous races.
