Strange that! - i'm pretty sure after a completed race the autopit thingy doesn't teleport u back after an amount of stationary time... or have i completly lost the plot? it wouldn't be the first time
Precisely my point. Infact it ought not too as the removal thing is a /spectate rather than /pit and the sensitivity of the timer is designed to allow you to wait before rejoining, after a race the timer need not be so long and /spectate would be the wrong action to take.
Quite a lot, if you join the circuit after the race ends you can usually get a lap and a half, sometimes 2 laps in. If you've just joined the server this is a great chance to try and select the right setup from that unsorted mess that is your settings folder, or to tweak a setting or two.
this is again something that might happen (a clear track after the race), but i would not expect it from a public server, so i find other ways in the first place. like, i can see what track is used on the server before i join, so i go to hotlap mode, load the track, find the right setup and maybe tweak it, have all the time and place in the world to do so, and THEN join the server. problem solved
you can also just join the race after the countdown, so you start from the back and test & warmup without causing trouble. or of course, if it´s too crowded and you don´t want to get "race full", you join earlier, get a proper spot on the grid, start like normal and then get out of the way before T1 so everyone can pass you. either way, you get not only one and a half laps to prepare, but a whole race.
in case you just joined 60 seconds before the restart, i doubt it is enough time not just to find the perfect set (in case you have like too many to know your favourites), but also to get warmed up. the people you are going to join already are full of adrenaline and, after your warmup lap, still have about 700% more warm-up at least... or something.
i find it nice that you see how CTRA could effect wide-spread behaviour by implying certain rules. but on the issue that´s talked about in this thread, i don´t see a change necessary too. it s something you might need to talk about every now and then (to remind the coffee-drinkers about the effect of the escape-key), but there are easier ways around the problem then changing the servers rules. ways that work everywhere, not just on CTRA.
Whilst I do agree with you eimer_, the current concept of the CTRA is to be absolutely accessible and provide an organised frontage to public pickup racing, in this regard the racing should be as seemless as possible with no more preperation required to get going than any other LFS server.
All the clever stuff should happen in the background and be a relatively transparent process, sorting out many 'community problems' like race restarting, and restart incase of lag, denying restarts on T1 wrecks, and reminding drivers not to rejoin into traffic. These are all things which are currently seemless.
Whilst I do agree there is no need to introduce an automatic /pit feature, I also think there is no reason not too, and I believe the result would likely be considered beneficial as just another one of those seemless changes that make racing on CTRA that bit more organised than a typical un-adminned server.
true, u got a point there. i just saw what they achieved already rather than what improvements could still be possible. it´s already an incredible experience to race on CTRA race 3, this ctra points&licences-system being the main factor behind it no noubt. we´ll see how much more will be done on the endless road to perfection
sry if i didn´t express myself correctly. you can join during or after the RESTART-countdown. of course, right after the race-start, the pits are closed.
if you join after the restart-countown started counting (the actual lfs-countdown that is, only counting the last 3 seconds, not the ctra-insim-countdown), you will simply get the first available spot - which normally is simply the last position on the grid.
I agree that it would be a welcome little feature that folk would just get used to. Stop for too long after the end of the race - or even drive the wrong way - and you are returned to your pit. Sometimes you can just forget to hit the ESC button to de-activate your wheel. Sometimes someone will ram you right after the finish before you've even had a chance to park up, or be driving towards you as you cross the line. And for some of the circuits with CTRA haybales and so on like Fern Bay, those couple of between-race laps are a rare chance to practice these furniture-adorned corners. So anything that helps to clear the track would be worthwhile IMO.
What about when you are hit hard into a barrier (usually the red/white ones that launch you) and you take the wrong route?
You go to rejoin and the race is full, race restarts and you have to sit it out. It happens quite a bit.
Lighten up fella... as Chris said after race pile ups are part of LFS culture. Some people like doing burn outs, some people like to ram the guy that was leading the race for 6 laps and almost impossible to catch... it's a vent of frustration and I rarely see people complaining about it happening. Those that are totally anal and want to "save the motors in their FFB wheel" just pit/spectate and get out of the mayhem...
With all these rules in racing, you gotta have a little vent here and there.
Personally I don't think drivers should do anything you wouldn't see on a normal racetrack. This is supposed to be a racing simulator, not an arcade game. So doughnuts are fine, but ramming, in my opinion, is not. The other day I had a great race with a guy over the last couple of laps, seemed quite sporting, he made a last corner error and I made it to the line ahead by a car's length - as soon as I lift off, not even a chance to press Shift-P, he's rammed me into the barrier. Charming.
Which ever server you go on, you will find after race crash parties but you will rarely find someone wrecking you during a race in CTRA which is the best thing about it.
The guy waited until you crossed the line so its totally legit, if however he didn't then you should raise a report and he will be delt with accordingly.
Race server is a race server, only racing should be done on the track, if a player wants to show some moronism by ramming in other people he is free to go to corresponding servers. A crasher is a crasher, race over or not isn't important.
oh c'mon...
I just said my opinion about the situation, I'm already relaxed enough. Everyone who is ramming other racers is an idiot to me and I don't care if the race is finished or not.
The longer such behavior will be tolerated, the longer it will be present.
That is just my opinion, and I'm sure there are quite a few people who think alike...
Yep, that's the policy they decided on after giving some consideration to adding rules against post-race wrecking. I don't entirely agree with it, but I do understand the reasoning.
