Quote from March Hare :Actually eye movement is sufficient, but movement still.

Not a bad idea but, the image in the wing mirror is the same as in the rear view one so there really is no need for it.

If they make the wing mirror image true to life then this option would be usefull.

My eyes must be playing tricks on me, because I could have sworn that while all mirrors show a view from the same point, they each show a different sector of the same whole view. Maybe that's a wishful thinking delusion that my mind has inserted
Another thought about mirrors

I have read as many threads as I could reasonably find. Many people seem to have problems / wishes regarding mirrors, especially the side mirrors. Many have asked for more realism, 3 separate views etc., all of which would need more processing etc. They might be great ideas, but this post is not about them.

In sedans, the far side mirror is somewhat useless, unless you have a wide FOV (then things can get rather small).
When using virtual mirrors, you can reposition the rear view mirror, so why not just allow to also reposition the side mirrors. Keep the same single view and detail level, but allow you to drag the far mirror into the car and your FOV.

I know it's not realistic, but neither is having to turn your head to see the mirror (at least to detect movement).

Love the racing and thanks to the developers for their ongoing support.

Yet another drifting (I mean deviating from intended topic, not driving with your zipper down and both hands on your "gearstick")thread. I looked at the first thread in the list, telling us not to start another thread about this patch, but instead use any of the three with links supplied.

Funny, but somehow I have ended in a thread talking about controllers. While it may be a good discussion, is this the right place for it?

With regards to the new patch, I think that in many aspects it is brilliant, but in others it really needs urgent work. So, on average, this makes me indifferent.

Restrictions on DEMO 10/10
FBM 5/10
Idea of Clutch 10/10
Quality of Supplied Clutch 2/10
Throttle Blip Restrictions 5/10 (should be available when using sequential shift ONLY, as this would be realistic - try racing a real car with sequential box and no throttle management)
Track Changes 7/10
Engine Dynamics 4/10. Needed work, but this change replaces one lot of issues with another. Insufficient gap between practical redline and Hard Limiting. Torque range on some engines is quite unrealistic.

Effort of Developers, Beta Testers and all others involved

11/10

It's your choice - you can choose either to be part of the problem, or part of the solution, so what are you waiting for???

Hmmmm, sounds good.
After reading the translational dictionary, I'm wondering whether or not potential drivers will need to sit John Howards "Australians" test before strapping on their mouse.

I can possibly admin for a while, if my trouble and strife lets me.

Quote from joen :One thing I have been wondering about and honestly been surprised about is how many people seem to rely on the speedometer, wether it be analogue or digital, to enter/exit corners. I'm not saying it's wrong or anything (maybe I'm the weird one here for not doing it), but I actually rarely look at my speedometer and rely more on "feel" and gearing.

Yes, I agree. The speedo, whether in a real car, or here, is only ever a very rough indicator of anything at all. Having said that, it is still very useful as a relative tool. When working on setups, if you are driving consistently and see that your slowest speed in a long corner is X, then you make changes and it becomes X+1, then it may be that you've found some more speed. As I say, it is a relative tool only. My issue with losing the digital speedo was that it is much easier to see minor changes.

Wow, what a Hornets Nest this Patch Y has stirred up. After having a good read through quite a few posts, I came away thinking that what I had not read was a constructive and objective, point by point look at the changes. In other words, what if you like a concept, but not the way it has been done....do you vote for or against?

I will start by saying that I like the concept of the clutch changes and I also generally like the way it seems to work, despite the need for me to go slow until I re-learn this part of my driving. Perhaps more work could be done on the Drag Coefficient modelling, as it seems a little arbitrary at this stage.

I do not like the changes to the engine dynamics. For whatever reason, it now feels like driving a car with an electronic "hard" limiter (like a pit speed limiter) set very close to the shift point (or so it seems). While I have raced cars with very little between shift and hard limit, it is most unusual to (a) have such a small gap and (b) have such a system fitted to a vehicle that does not have at least 3 stage warning lights. Yes, I will get used to it. Yes, I do like the idea. Yes, I think it needs considerable improvement.

Changes that affect Demo users. I agree with all of them, but cannot say why without offending a lot of people that drift.

Changes to Instruments - Digital Speedo. WHY???????
I sit comfortably behind the wheel and far enough away that my long legs have some room. From time to time, I glance at the instruments. Tacho is too small and lo res to be useful, so I glance at the Digital Speedo to compare entry/exit speeds etc.
If it neither adds or detracts, why not leave it as a user option?

There are many other changes, but so far, I have not had time to learn them enough to justify a comment.

Anyhow, that's just my opinion. I remain in awe of the development team and don't wish this to be seen as criticism of their wonderful work. Seasons Greetings to all.

Quote from axus :That's not really helping anything. You should be able to drift just fine (if you are capable of good driving) in a realistic sim anyway. And LFS allows for that just fine. Getting it right will become progressively more satisfactory as LFS evolves and incorporates more damage and so on.

Yes, I know, but it gets very frustrating when your race gets ruined by someone who is obviously a drifter (some reference to being the undisputed god of all drifters in their name). Yes, it does take skill of a kind, but it takes a whole lot more to be able to race fast, clean and smooth and this is what I fear is lacking.

If you log onto what is clearly a drift server, then go for it, but otherwise STOP RUINING THINGS FOR EVERYONE ELSE!!!

[quote=porschedrifter;642853]Yeah the FBM is nice but I loved drifting in the game more than gripping.

In the demo it would be wise to display the drifting aspect as well as the gripping aspect.

And able cars that show it off the best

Technical

Stick to playstation, x-box and your Tonka Toys and leave the rest of us free to enjoy a fairly realistic sim.

I have read a few threads about similar problems, where other cars suddenly disappear, but all else still works. From what I have read, it seems the finger is being pointed at Linux servers. I don't know enough to say if this is correct, but I have been having problems on lots of different servers. Problem is:
1. Other competitors suddenly disappear and small map freezes.
2. Next lap around, get yellow flag warnings before driving through a swarm of Lag Timers (just like driving through a swarm of bees)
3. Race position number fluctuates wildly (one minute I'm in 1st, next I'm down to 7th or 8th)
4. Overall timing of race is unaffected. Race will finish and all details show up correctly (times, placing etc)
5. Bars are not doing anything strange at all
6. No one times out and msgs are still working OK

I have only been having these problems since the latest update was released.
As a non-tech person, I don't know how to go about isolating the problem and solving it, so any GOOD help will be appreciated.
