If G-Force = Perfect, then LFS or FM3 showcased with a motion simulator means they are perfect?
What is simulated and waht is not is very different in many "sims" LFS showcases how well it simulates a car. And it is clear by it's consistency. In any view of the car it is simulated, IE add a driver, or a passenger or gas and it *REACTS* correctly. When a vehicle is not moving even in a UI screen, then who knows waht is being simulated and modeled and when. As noted, if suspension geometries are not modeled and calculated, who cares about the tire model. All the angles, forces, interactions, compressions, etc can ensure a tire slip model against various surfaces is correct in all situations, not just a given tire at a perfect right angle to a perfect flat horizontal surface.
I can't wait to see a sim where I can see the contact patch and what surface any portion of that contact patch is interacting with. Water in the middle and ice on the rightside and mud on the leftside how does that effect handling, or the asphalt and concrete variations.. so much left to do in driving sims.
Will Forza Motorsport 3's release with tire deformation rewrite what simulations and the future holds? With real cars, real tracks, and possible fully modeled suspension geometries ( worn bushings anyone? ) with fully moddled tires and deformation, what more do you need for spot on apples to apples comparison of the virtual to the real? The fanatec 911 Turbo S wheel doesn't hurt the release any either... 2010 should be an incredible year.
I'll take quality every time. Keep up the good work and the world could learn a lot from maintaining quality and standards versus giving in to the immediate gratification nonsense.
Do it right the first time or when will you have time to go back and do it again?
Just did that. 375hp NA V8 that is using the MTX75 ( Slocus, heh ) transmission and comes in 100lbs lighter than the ecotec. So it will be very close with additional plumbing and bits. Very Nice!
Good to hear! Previously did you have the ecotec in the atom? What does it weigh and what does the V8 weigh? I need to be able to find more time before I can bother with picking up another toy. Too many already sitting around collecting dust. Time for a garage sale and a change to facilitate more play time.
Just did the Ariel Atom (2) experience and more oomph and lots of downforce and that would be a street car (well streetable or partially legal.. ) that just decimates other production based vehicle on the track. Will the V8 Atom be a 400hp Atom?
I was meaning to dig this thread up and check what's going on with it. Thanks for doing it!
Options like this while keeping things fair online is a win win.
With a central standardized delivery system ( similar to valve's) to ensure consistency and prevent cheating online, mods can be very very helpful without any of the maintenance issues.
If the Simulation Mode and/or simulation Tires are decent and the online play is not a total PITA, GT5 will be in the purchases along with a PS3.
The online "home" and calender to allow car clubs and friends to easily coordinate is simply awesome. Just schedule a meet with friends and let them accept or deny the invitation all in game, in one simple central place. The game/web forum community building ain't all that smooth or convenient. One clean simple interface with voice messages is much more efficient.
FM2 is fun, but buggy. Not cool when your profile gets corrupted and you lose all your cars, paintjobs and progress. But it is pretty good. Maybe with some patches/fixes and a hardcore mode with the 12+ car option with track visuals turned down, it could really set some new standards.
I need to but some of these from you on the auction house! Unlocked so I can put that logo on lots of cars! Can you do the logo with your "signature" on it somewhere so it can be used over and over?
Lift Off oversteer to unsettle the chassis and help get a car to rotate would have been nice to help keep it realistic in the physics dept FWIW.
They had a great opportunity, but took the lots of marketing ($$$$$^1e50) dollars instead of solid design and implementation.
If it was a first iteration, it still would be bad for all the some serious holes and rough edges, but being a sequel and one that has fewer features than the first, it's truly pathetic or clear in it's apathy. Thy cut the in game car clubs, no more Point to Point/ Drag Racing/ Hillclimb / Down hill events. Still only 8 cars in a game. No upward expansion/challenge for more serious racers wanting realism. They added a horribly buggy auction house, which is causing more grief than good, cut out many other little things, and added finally a somewhat decent set of filters for setting up an online race ( car power/weight, etc. ) but still no practicing, qualifying or false starts. Not even an easy way to look at others cars outside of starting a race and asking everyone to *NOT* race.
There are so many blatantly boneheaded moves in the UI and overall game. Unpolished is an understatement to this sequelitis.
LFS's core elements with strong improvements and patches, understanding of good flow to maximize the play time and community aspects that encourage gathering, whether tuning and sharing tunes easily with others, or tracking all the cool stats of race events truly should send a message to most every studio/group of developers, that there are good examples out there, and they can still be followed and improved upon. No need to reinvent the wheel and end up with a tank tread.
Wow. Supurb quality product from such an honest, humble, and talented group! WHo would have ever thunk it? I hope for the best of this franchise! It truly deserves it and much more!
I just encountered a repeatable perforamance issue on my laptop P4 2.2 GeForce Go 440.
When I the mirrors are SHIFT-Md to ALL it's fine, Real, Fine, but when *just* on Virtual performance tanks to 2-3 FPS. The very strange thing is, with all of them ( 1 virtual + 2 real ) it's fine, and 2 real is fine too, but when just using the 1 virtual it skidded to a halt.
IS it possible to have multiple Instances of LFS running and have a master instance and other's just camera views? Using In Sim or even having LFS talk on a private Port with other machines/instances that just take necessary data and render a view?
It would be great if LFS could be setup in a Spectate/view only fashion and just give it a location to look to use as a source for telemetry info basically and a view to use, TV/or position relative to a car/driver. Then you could have 5 instances of LFS running, 4 just receiving data from the master and those 4 rendering from the configured view points. Real small LCD for a real rear view, 2 side views and one for TV spectating. Plus this could accommodate single very fast PCs with multiple displays at different resolutions, or with multiple graphics cards. Plus it could accommodate multiple PCs being used to distribute the rendering load.
