Thanks for all advices / ideas about going through T1

I must admit that I've been too cautious about not getting crashed in T1 and I think that was my biggest mistake. I'm not saying that going fast and hard no matter what is solution to this problem but here is what makes the best results for me:

I start as fast as I can and try to make position or two if that's possible or just stick to guy in front of me (if I'm not faster than he is). What makes me surprised is that going outside is (in most cases) the way for me. On the inside line there are always bunch of cars and risk of getting pushed out of the track is very big. I know that going outside could have fatal consequences when you are hit by the car on the inside but anyway it works for me quite well.

Thanks one more time cause now I see what was wrong is my first approach

Quote from Blackout :My usual trick to get some space behind me if needed, is fake braking a bit earlier than my safe marker.

The problem is that some "fast guys" seem not bother at all that you are braking and hit you with full speed.
But thanks for idea, I'll try and hopefully someone notice that my lights go red == I AM BRAKING.

Nobody survives T1

Hehehe I don't agree with you .

The fast drivers don't have this problem - then start from front rows and go smooth the T1.

As I said, I'm not fast so I have to work my way through some "not very good" drivers...
How to survive T1 ???

Hello Everyone,

For some time now, I've been trying to work my way through the T1 after start of the race... but I ran out of ideas

To make it easier to explain I focus on BL1 but the same problem is more or less on every CTRA1 track.

I'm rather slow driver and find myself at 11-13 position on the grid in 19-20 car race. After start of the race try to keep my position but mostly (let say 3 of every 5 races) some "fast guy" put me out of the track on T1. It's been very frustrating for me, so I worked out two different strategies of survival but none of them is perfect.

1) I try to keep as close as it's possible to the rear bumper of the car in front of me. That gives me hope that the guy behind me will have enough space to brake and all of us drive through T1. Sometimes it work but... sometimes the "super driver" thinks that he manage to go over me even if there is no space between me and the car I follow. So he smash my rear bumper and put me I the car in front of me -> all of us end up in tyres/dust. Another unpleasant thing is that mostly the driver in front of me thinks that it was my fault and I'm tired of explaining that it wasn't me over and over again.

2) I start slow and let every / most of the cars pass me before T1. The (mostly) I see "nice" disaster at T1 and slow but safe drive pass 3/4 wracked cars. It is safe strategy but the problem of it is that I loose my position and distance between me and the pack is that big I'm unable to finish at some high position - I mean in first ten

Sorry for such long writing but I just want to show what kind of situation I'm in. If you have any good solution of my problem please let me know because I feel very bad about it.

Thanks in advance

Quote from e2mustang :Yes its true, real cars get more mileage with turbos, becoz they are like "converting air to power" instead of using more gas to do the same.

I'm afraid you're very wrong. Cars in LFS are running on petrol (at least I think they do) so the ratio fuel / air must be constant in order to get maximum power from engine, move over if you change this ratio too much (converting air to power instead of using more gas) the engine will stop working at all. That's very fundamental law of engine physics.

To have more power from turbo engine you need more air (buy pushing to higher RPM) and as a result of that you need more fuel so.... you've got less miles per gallon (or more L per 100 km).

If you will start GTTC competition I'm all on it

I don't like single-seaters so I'm afraid that we won't meet there.
Anyway keep up the good job

I ask because I prefer road cars that F1

Lets bring some fresh air to this discussion

I'm still beginner here and there are plenty of cool things in this game but what I find most important is the bunch of really great people who I meet online. I know than some of them (sometimes most of them) are beginners/noobs that somehow spoil the atmosphere of clean, fast racing but anyway it's not that bad.

As I said, I'm new in here and don't know most of guys. But you are the veterans of LFS and well know all the best racers. For you it's rather social meeting than pure racing (at least IMO). I know that's not like going to pub with bunch of friends but still this could be fun.

Maybe I'm subliming all this stuff but anyway it's not as bad as you are saying (I hope).

At least there is still one noob (me) that would appreciate your help on the track so see you there

Thanks guys

I thought that I'm the most lame driver who can't handle the car properly (because of that WR replays).

When I modulate throttle through the corner I can feel what is going on with the car and keep it on the track. As most of you said, it's the best way to get faster and faster

Thanks for your support

Quote from yoyoML :Why would you think you can keep full throttle in any part of a corner? Even with a good setup and a perfect line, there will be parts you just can't go full throttle. It is normal to have to play with the throttle to find the grip limit, for the most part of any corner with any car.

Traction control would be the only setup that allows you to keep full throttle.

As I said. It's not about keeping full throttle all the corner. I've watched some WR replays and drivers tend to push it down to the metal short after crossing the top of most corners. I managed to do something like that only few times without loosing control that's why I know it's possible. As a beginner I haven't got 100% consistent line so my guess was that this could be a problem.

Quote from The Very End :then we don`t have anything to fear, do we?

It's not about fear, fun or anything like that... people who use this kind of cheat simply disrespect all real racers. I'm not fast and when I see faster car on my back I do everything I can to let him pass me as smooth as it is possible. Most of that fast guys says "Thx" or "" because this all thing is about respect not about being first no matter what.

I've asked Scawen about this hack because I thought it's a matter of client-server communication injection. This is what he respond:

Quote from Scawen :No, the speed hack etc are old tricks, where the hacker changes some values in the program, for example negative handbrake, so the handbrake can spin up the rear wheels with great power.

But that is protected in the code by a cheat protection system. Unfortunately LFS hackers have hacked the part of the cheat prevention system in their LFS.exe so it doesn't detect their modified values.

So making separate cheat defending system won't work - hacker could easy kill it's process and they're "in the game".

Quote from Mogar :I believe that a way to fight it would be LFS monitor in some way the active processes in windows, and if any "known cheat process" is open, close LFS, or something like that to avoid ppl from using it. Or using another anti-cheat system like punkbuster.

I was thinking about this all hacks cause I used to be programmer myself. In my opinion the only (maybe not the only but the best) way to fight with them is to improve server side protection. Maybe Scawen could implement some hack defend mechanism on the server (at least for the known hacks). I think it would do the job because hackers can easily modify the client program (the program that everybody can download from LFS page) but there is no way that they could mess with CTRA server program (or any other server that is administrating by honest person).

Well that's what I am thinking. I afraid that all this speed hacks is going to be less obvious and the only way to fight them would be by server-side security monitor.

Thanks Everyone

I've been practicing a lot and now I find XRG more comfortable to drive

gohfeld23: I'll try your sets in the evening and hopefully see the difference

As I said, I gave it a try. I must say that both setups are nice - tested on BL.
I found that I can achieve better lap time with locked differential but on the other hand, I'm more consistent when I drive the opposite setup.

I think thats because I'm beginner and although I can keep my car on the track, sometimes I do it at the great expense of speed.

I.e. : I can't keep full throttle in the second part of most corners because I loose grip on my rear tires. Maybe it's because of setup ( I tend to use inferno setups ) but I think that the real case is that my racing line isn't perfect... I guess it's a matter of time.

Thanks for your support

Once more, Thanx Everyone

I think it's cool idea but...

Plastic isn't best base material for this kind of item. I'd LOVE to have something like this made of solid iron with LFS logo engraved in it. I won't mind pay few euro for that kind of staff

As I said, plastic would look rather lame....

Edit: These sets understeer lots with patch T - I will revise them soon!

Does anybody knows whether this setups are updated or not ?
I wonder if they will work with newest version of LFS.

Good one

Could you write something more about BEGINNER SETUP? I try to make my own setups (for xrgt) but I managed to do this only for SO_Classic.

Maybe someone could give me some general tips about making setups?

PS. I read WIKI pages but there is much more theory than practical advices.

Quote from AndroidXP :Try to minimize trail braking, so you actually finish braking before turning into the corner, then coast to the apex and shortly before reaching it, start to simultaneously increase the throttle and unwind the wheel. The last part is important, because many people friggin steer too much in the RWD cars and wonder why they get oversteer on corner exit when they finally start straightening the wheel enough causing the front wheels to regain grip.

That's the point!!! When I unwind the wheel earlier and steer in the last part of turn only with accelerator I can finally take clean turn
I've tried different tracks just to feel the car. The problem is that I don't have setups for all the tracks but it's only matter of time since I've started understand what the car is doing

Good work guys!!! Once more you helped hopeless beginner

First of all: thanx for all your support

Just for be precise: I use wheel Logitech MOMO Raceing.

My problem: when I enter the turn I try to slow down (with brake+gears so it's not a problem) and try to hit the best line. Usually at some point of a turn my car goes over steer so I loose gas and counter a bit. And here we are:

1) back of the car is going over steer even more and I spin
2) I counter too much and my car spin in the other direction
3) ...and sometimes I manage to drive the corner smooth and clean

I know that LFS is all about practice and that RWD is hard on the beginning so I don't lay down and cry But maybe there are some other useful tips that would help me in my way up to the top

Once more, thanks for help :Handshake
How to drive RWD ?

Hello Everyone

Is there a guide about driving RWD cars in LFS?

I've been driving FWD (XFG) for some time but there is something about RWD cars makes me crazy

Please post any tip that can help me take control of my ride. I'd appreciate if someone could give me "learning" setup for XRGT
