Sometimes I do help...

But honestly, they are sitting there at a computer, on the internet.
Why should I be so worried about helping them, when they don't care about helping them self?

I am REALLY doubting these people have never heard of google.
I use google a lot, and am admittedly better at drudging up random info then the average person, but lets you your example...

http://lmgtfy.com/?q=How+to+take+a+screen+shot
If he did not know how to take a screen shot, he could just type "how to take a screen shot" in google and get thousands of pages of instructions... with relevant clear instructions on the first page.

If he realized these were just for windows, and he wanted to learn how in LFS all he needs to do is add "in LFS" on the end.
Again, first page... complete instructions.

This is the easiest thing possible, and probably the most famous website on the internet. It does not require any creativity or any special skills... Simply the initiative to take a second to figure it out.
So why is it my responsibility to help people who can not be bothered to even attempt to help them self?

So....What do you want us to do about it?
What do you hope to accomplish here?

I see no point to this thread.

Quote from Shadowww :You dont have barriers in middle of road in real life do you?

Right, that's why demo cruise servers exist.

Yes, you do. The two opposing lanes are usually separated on major roads.

There are also barriers in traffic zone, as well as some to block off sections of road and guide traffic.

Also, roads in real life are typically not race tracks.

Quote from Scawen :If you think the online activity is dropping, you can go to LFS World : www.lfsworld.net

Click on "Racers & Hosts online" and select the "History" tab.

You will then see something like this attached image and you will probably realise there is no reduction in people online, just a gradual increase over time.

Also noticed the slope of the Licensed server graph being greater then the slope of the licensed racer graph.
Whats probably happened is that while the number of racers has gone up, the number of servers have gone up more, spreading players out and making it look less active.

I have noticed however that if you just pick almost any server and just go drive laps, people will start showing up.

If you are impatient just filter empty servers, then join one with your favorite track/car combo.

Quote from nncjimbo :would be nice if the playin field was equal .

It would likely be less equal if there was a standard set.
People have different driving styles, to be really fast the setup must be fit to the driver.
With only one setup it would only be fit to one style of driver, disadvantaging those with equal skill but different technique.

Drift servers seem to be a lot less organized then normal servers, and are full of people trying to slide cars. Its VERY rare to see a drift server where everyone (or even one person) is drifting constantly lap after lap with out messing up, so just learn to deal with it. It sucks if your nice drift gets messed up, but at least its not racing where an entire lap/race is ruined by losing those few seconds it takes to get back to driving after a crash.

Quote from hazaky :Yes, my setup was messed up so i dont drift good,

I have "drifted" a stock 92 toyota camry with an automatic transmission. Sliding a car just takes momentum and getting the vehichle pointed in a direction thats not straight.
It may not be the best car for it, and it may not be able to hold drifts like some other cars... but in the end I've seen people drift bicycles, tanks, big wheels, ect... Its just moving the car fast enough and playing with balance.

That being said from the sound of your post YOU cannot drift it. Learn to drive WELL before you try to start throwing 3000lbs of metal out of control.
Why do I get the feeling someone is about to crash their parents car?

Quote from bully2100 :i 2 love the fo8, its the first mp race i look for, but i usually have to make do with fox or fbm

wether anyone is interested i can run a server,FO8 ONLY, let me know tracks u may want.

tbh i have hosted one b4, waited , and waited LOL.....

is there any info anywhere on the upload bandwidth requirements for a server , i wanna know how many clients i can handle, upload is 480kb/s?!?!?!!!!!!???

might see you on there!

If you run the server from the game, rather then as a dedicated client I believe it tells you the bandwidth requirements as you change the number of slots... Though you may have to convert bits to bites.

Quote from AMB :Too all the people saying it's difficult, are you serious lol, I find it easier than RAC, i'm not bad in it, but I suppose not many others like it as much as others.

How often do you see people racing the RAC
Its like the LX6. My guess is too many people view the throttle as an on off switch. When you have the power to spin the tires on almost any turn you need to be a lot more precise and people don't wanna deal with it.

Quote from Ikaponthus :I can't tell for sure - and nobody here can, whether they think so or not - which game is the more authentic and realistic.

Uhh? I am not gonna say my opinion is the correct one, and I don't blame you for doubting the opinions of others... as many people really don't have the experience of really driving a car in real life as they do in LFS...

But why is it not possible for ANYONE to tell which is more realistic? Its not like were judging art here, or its a matter of taste. They are trying to imitate a real life thing. The way a car reacts to driver input is not a matter of opinion. One of the games is closer accurately representing real life. Why would it be impossible for someone who has adequate experience to make that distinction?

Heel toe is just a name. Depending on the person and pedals people do it all different ways, even not using the heel at all and just the left side of your foot on brake and the right side on gas.

It doesn't really matter as long as you are braking well and getting the engine rev'ed

In every racing game I have had and played, I have tended to be heavily biased towards a favorite car, and a favorite track... especially considering the benefits of familiarity in racing.

I am a fairly casual player, and often go more then a month with out playing while I am busy with other things, so my opinion may be a little bit irrelevant, but I am not at all bothered by what some may view as a "lack" of content.

Whats here is good, and all I really need is my LX6 and blackwood/chicane route and I am a happy guy.

I think a lot of it has to do with peoples familiarity with it.
as much as people like and want new content, Nothing like a track and car you know like the back of your hand.

Quote from bbman :I can definitely hear a combustion engine running in that video?

Yup, hybrid cars, not pure electric... The compition only allows you to run a pure electric car your first year of competition or in the event of a failure of your hybrid system.

Typical setup tends to be an IC engine acting as a generater to recharge batteries/capacitors, though there are a few schools running a parrallel system (both IC and electric motors can power the wheels)

IC engines are limited to 250cc, or 350cc if bio-desil is used.

While they had trouble with endurance, Dartmouth deserves mentions for their cars brutal manlyness.

they destroyed the drag races with a 4second 0-60 time... Note the huge rack of I belive ~80 super capacitors

Quote from legoflamb :Exactly, that is because LFS only models Mechanical trail, or in other words, it does not simulate pneumatic trail.

Yeah, but why do you say it should only fall off when on ice?
Even without pneumatic trail the cornering force will fall off as you pass optimal slip angle, which means steering feedback should decrease as its just the moment of that force about the steering axis.

You said your using the logitech drivers? Not the wingman drivers? Every time after reformat and what not FF feels like trash till I re-install the wingman drivers and get them set right (I think I usually use overall feed back 101%, 720 deg, and turn everything else off.)

Quote from mrodgers :What a lovely community this is. The guy makes what I assume is an attempt to ask a question in English which he obviously has no knowledge of and he gets flamed. Had he asked in his language, he would also get flamed. Which is it that the community wants here?

I'm not really seeing flaming here, credit for trying but the attempt didn't work so well. I'm sure at times when I speak Spanish its damn hilarious so go ahead and have a laugh, I'm not gonna feel to bad about the fact that I am not good at something I don't really know how to do.

The translation was so off it was funny, I don't see anyone blaming the poster. What a terrible community where we can crack a few jokes and have a laugh together.

Quote from tristancliffe :For a beginner? No, absolutely not. The last thing you want to be in is a team in your first year... There is too much to learn about speed, handling, racecraft, consistency etc, and all of these things are best learnt by driving. Lots. Only when you win regularly on pick up servers, even when starting near the back, and can pass/defend against anyone without making contact, even by accident, should you think about joining a team.

Then you have to choose a team - if this is the case, don't bother. Wait for a team to want you - you will be in a better team, with better drivers. Over 99% of LFS teams are rubbish, with no aims, rubbish drivers, and no results.

What can a team offer you? Support in leagues, mainly. Yes there is the social side of things, but that can be had via forums, MSN and real life visits. You don't need three letters in front of a name to be a friend.

The big question is - what can YOU offer a team? Can you arrange and run a league? Run a website (properly, not a crappy free one)? Can you make software that will aid the team? Are you gifted at sorting race strategies or managing a driver(s) in a competative league??

Chances are you won't get quicker in a team, you won't make any new real friends, you won't get glory, money, or generally better. It just means you have to do leagues (otherwise what is the point of a team?), and wear the team skins, and dedicate time to helping the team in whatever way you arrange.

If it's just a 'friendly team', solely for people to chat, and race with known people then isn't that a bit pointless? How is the racing or the chat improved with three letters in front of your racername?

I was in three teams. The first was formed by Will Dendy, and it was him, Kirves and myself. Will spent ages pursauding me to join, and I was already a quick driver by then. That was then taken over by vMax, run by James Burgess. I was happy there for several years, and did various leagues for the team, and assisted in running the team later in my time. We were never a top team in LFS, mainly because we had no direction - I believe they were better in NASCAR. But then Triple7Racing came a knocking, and it was too good an opportunity to miss. It started well, and I tried entering leagues, but real life was taking up too much time. I tried to stay, hoping that I would get the chance to race in T7R colours again, but I eventually realised I was just taking up space that a better, more committed driver could use, and so I left (hopefully on good terms - I certainly have nothing bad to say about any member of T7R past or present). I don't think I'll join another team, even if real life allows me several hours a week in LFS again (rather than an hour per month, max), because they can't offer anything I want that I can't get without a team, and I can't offer a team anything they need.

In short - don't bother with teams unless you plan to race in lots of leagues with the same people.

This is a perfect answer...

I haven't done much sim racing to talk about that aspect of it but its generally all the same, clans, teams, guilds, ect...what ever game you are playing.

If your gonna find some group, and just say "Hey I am kinda a noob, can I join?" and they say "Who are you? Well yeah sure...." you will get nothing from it. I see people in servers recruiting ANYONE just to get more people wearing their tag...You wont even make more friends from that.

If a team will let any random join, so long as there is not a reason not to you end up with just that: a group of random people wearing the same thing.

Best bet is just to find a decent server, and become a regular. As people remember you they will likely be friendlier and offer tips and what not.

The other problem with a team can be that it makes things more official then it needs to be at times. I was part of a casual team for another game...as members came and went the people in charge slowly changed to where our homepage started showing bible verses, members were kicked out because they laughed at another member when he was loosing and he felt hurt...just not what I had joined...and so then rather then coming less often, or only playing with some of them or what ever I had to "quit" which is awkward when it comes to still hanging out/playing with some of them..

Yeah, when it rains it gets real slippy.

The driving physics shouldn't be expected to be stunning, but for a GTA game they certainly have moved very close to "realistic"

Its kinda like when racing games pretend to be realistic, though I wouldn't even put them on th GT level. It is most definitely a step forward though, even though it can put a happer on the shinanigans...and remind you how much it sucks trying to drive a POS economy car at 10/10ths.

It is good though that it keeps you from running around flat out all the time, with elevation changes you really have to brake and adjust your speed to keep the car settled/on the ground.

I'm just now really starting to get the hang of it where is can keep the speed up pretty consistantly. The porsche owns.

I don't think SA was completely analog, as I always seemed to notice a difference between light braking into turns and mashing the brake pedal...but it wasn't anything near what it is now. In fact I'm 80% sure SA was 3 position, off/half/full, You could lightly hold gas to go slower IIRC but I think it was one speed or the other. Driving slow is brilliant now. Good enough that I spend a bit of my time driving closer to 7 or 8 10ths
